Mrs. Metal Jesus joins me for a very special music episode, where we reminisce about our favorite Hard Rock albums of the 1970s. And when we say "albums", yes we mean big, black and beautiful vinyl. Music is a big part of our lives and this is a nice deviation this week from video games. We hope you like it!

Wow. Not one mention of Queen. SO disappointed. Night at the Opera isn't better than anything Boston ever put out? Or comparable to Van Halen 1? I realize you go for more of the darker side of rock (since metal didn't really exist then), but you can't say rock and not mention Queen for the 70's and 80's imo.

Having said that, I liked the vid, you have a beautiful wife, and I'd love to see more vids from you about music because I liked your pics (excepting the exclusion of Queen ;) )

We have taken the noise of gunpowder as our rhythm and the sound of machine guns as our melody.

I almost put in Night at the Opera by Queen, because I love every single song on that album....but it's hard to call it hard rock with songs like 39, Seaside Rendevous and You're My Best Friend. It's very subjective and I was running out of time as the video was approaching 15 minutes.

I think what we will do in the future is a 70s video with bands like Queen, Elton John, Styx, Yes, Rush and other rock bands that are more varied and eclectic.

Kiss is great but I am more of an Alice Cooper fan. His sound, stage show, and concept albums really resonated more with me than Kiss' stuff. I can't wait to see a video about the 70's music in general... Sex Pistols, Allman Brothers, Abba, Pink Floyd, Motorhead, Aerosmith, Genesis, Janis Joplin(even if it was only 1970), Elvis Costello, The Ramones, and so many more great sounds from the 70s.

.... and Bowie. Definitely want to see that episode when you make it. And you make a good point, I just think you have to define Queen as a "Rock band" so they should qualify. But, then you have Sabbath and the beginnings of metal, etc. (and further muddies the water). So, long story short, I'm looking forward to other vids lol.

Awesome video, MJR! I understand both sides of the Queen discussion, as I believe Queen defines so many genres with their albums that it may be hard to define it as one particular.

I don't want to sound blasphemous (comparing newer generations of "music" to the classics) but would you guys say that Muse is quite comparable to Queen, in terms of genre-bending and diversity?

I do think Muse is one of those bands that make albums that skip across genres. I have their Black Holes and Revelations CD and I like it quite a bit!

I am a big fan of Muse and have been for over a decade - fantastic rock band. I am also a huge music enthusiast and one of the rare people who still haunts record stores, so this video definitely piqued my interest. I absolutely love Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Who and Black Sabbath, so excellent choices from them. The video actually inspired me to go to my CD shelves and dig out these albums once more. Good times :)
