It was announced this morning that GAME and Gamestation in the UK will no longer be supplying EA Titles after the release of the new SSX. This means that one of the biggest games this year, Mass Effect 3, wont be available at the UK's biggest videogames supplier!

LINK

Anyone got any thoughts on this? Would like to hear what the gamers from the UK think about it all.

We aren't given much information about why but it looks like Game are going to take a serious blow from this and it will likely get worse in the future. Good news for competitors.

Why is this happening?
GAME are a hugely popular brand with gamers of all ages. The high street is having a tough time at the moment because people have less money to spend. We're doing as much as we can to give our customers the widest possible range during this time, but as flagged before, we need our partners help in order to do this. We want to be in a position where we're selling as much of their products as we possibly can. We need their help to do this and that's what we're working on at the moment.

I heard that they arent going to be able to supply the new mario party either, apparently they are having problems with Nintendo as well. I know they have been doing bad financially for a long time now, maybe these are just the cracks showing publically now.

GAME was saying that due to credit issues, they're not going to be able to stock a number of upcoming titles. I guess this is the start of all that.

GAME isn't that reliable anyway I don't think it makes a big difference.

I knew something was up when I went in to pick up my Catherine pre-order and they simply said nope, we didn't get any stock, come back tomorrow and we might have it then. Not really something you want to hear from the biggest high street retailer of video games.
Now all this business with EA, Mario Party, and all those last minute Last Story pre-order cancellations... it's certainly not looking good. Whilst I hardly shop at Game anymore because of their sky-high prices and awful customer service (at least in my local stores) I wouldn't like to see them go under, especially when taking into account all the jobs that would be lost. Unemployment is ridiculously high in the UK as it is.

The sucky thing is, a lot of these decisions will also affect Gamestation it seems...I haven't preordered things for a while from Game or Gamestation, but this explains some of the weird answers I got when I went into Game and Gamestation today. I got told Gamestation weren't stocking any more copies of ME3, and later on in the day, the Game staff told me about this conference call they were in saying the decision was made not to stock this at all.. =( Which is weird because ME3 preorders had filled up before Christmas it seemed...definite easy way to make money I would have thought.

Is that why the boxes for the Last Story were all preorder boxes? Did they even get any copies of it in shops? =/

I dont think GAME really have any choice in the matter. They have managed to talk thier way out of scrapes like this before, but this time im not sure its gonna work out.

I could just be pessimistic of course...or is that optimistic? I've never been a fan of game anyway.

I'm the same, for a while now I've preferred Gamestation to Game but if this means they have to shut down shops or even worse, go under, then it'll probably affect Gamestation as well unfortunately. =(

That sounds familiar. In the U.S. we have Game Stop. I went to pick up a reserve copy of Infamous 2 last summer and they didn't have it. They had no idea when they would have new copies and were snotty about me asking for it.

They are also condescending jerks and act like they are the elite of gaming and society in general, and if you don't like exactly what they like or how they like it, they think you're stupid.

I understand they may not like their retail job, but if you hate your job so much you feel the need be a misanthrope about everything, then quit your job; there are plenty of unemployed folks out there who would be happy to earn a small paycheck in your place. :pacman: :ghost: :ghost: :ghost: :ghost:

This should be in the fine print of a job application next to the drug screening policy :)

Capcom are now no longer supplying some of their up and coming games now. Street Fighter X Tekken and Asura's Wrath are not going to be available at GAME now. It looks like it's the end for the business in my opinion so make sure you use whatever store credit you have left.

For those consumers who have already placed a deposit for a pre-order for any of these titles then a full refund will be available.

I've been reading on some other forums that it looks like game is having a '' fire sale'' on a lot of its preowned stock by the looks of it games like bulletstorm going for under £5 ( preowned), it doesn't make the situation look good for them if this is true, shows they are desperate to get a quick influx of cash asap.

But as a company I cant stand Game, utter terrible company they try and make a plea that the industry needs a dedicated video game store one minute then the next says they cant justify stocking every '' niche'' game like the last story well thats the whole point of having a dedicated gaming store so that you are able to stock more than just the top 20 games, and for the love of god their pricing structure has been stuck in the pre-internet days £43 for new releases. As well as all the poor customer service that has happened to me I'll be glad when they go under

Its a shame, Gamestation used to be a really good store before they were bought over. Even a few years after owning it they kind of just let them do thier thing, its only recently GAME having been sticking thier noses in andnow the 2 brands are almost indistinguishable from each other.

GS used to be great for retro stuff, i remember them aelling everything from Atari 2600 games all the way to Game Gear game. It was a great place to shop and just a great place to talk to the staff too.

I for one wont miss game at all, im just worried for how it is going to effect the gaming market in the UK. Admittedly i buy all my stuff online whether its hard copy or digital, but i do like to have a browse around the stores every once in a while.

In the end, im really 50/50 in how i feel about it. The fact my girlfriend is looking for another job already isnt filling me full of hope for the company!

Of course, its only the UK company GAME/Gamestation that isnt getting it. HMV and other places like supermarkets will still be getting it too. ;)

looks like they are going out of business their shares are down to 1.5p per share was 0.5p per share earlier on today, a drop of around 60 % from their starting price this morning of 3.5 p per share.

their fire sale in store was quite good managed to pick up a psp for £30 and bulletstorm brutal legend and medal of honour combined for £10

so if you have any vouchers or reward card points use them now

Went into Game and Gamestation today and took advantage of their massive sales, made off with a whole bunch of PSP games which were dirt cheap. Best was Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together premium edition for £4.98. Over the moon with that :D
Really does look like the end for the chain, I can't see it being bought now but who knows.

No one is going to buy game until they enter administration, they have to many liabilities in many towns there are 2/3 game / gamestations for medium size towns. the nearest town to me has 2 games and a gamestation all within a 2 minute walk, if they enter admin a new buyer can get out of these lessees much easier to at least become profitable some people have mentioned that gamestop maybe interested when game goes to admin.
