It's pretty long (1,329 words to be exact) so I understand if you won't read it all. Note: This isn't easy to the eye but you need to understand that it was written for a word application and not a forum X-Men Origins: Wolverine begins in the late 1800's. For once we see a young, innocent Wolverine who is sick in bed. The Father, pastor, comes in to check on the young James, who later refers to himself as Logan. Once the pastor leaves the room a gun fires and the pastor lays dead on the floor. Logan becomes enraged and kills his own father with his newly discovered powers. He runs out of the house, shocked of what he's done, and keeps running. His brother, Victor, meets up with him and they join together, promising to stay together as brothers, forever. This is what starts Wolverine's horrible and calloused life. The movie then goes on to show the battles of the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War II, and Vietnam. During Nam they start to show their powers. This is when they meet up with Lieutenant Stryker. Stryker has them join a special squad of mutants. The squad is looking for adamantium, a very strong and rare metal, for a reason they don't even know. When Stryker starts threatening to kill an entire village for the precious metal he leaves the squad and moves on with his own life; which many of the mutants end up doing. Logan starts a life in Canada living in a log cabin; working as a lumber jack. He falls in love with a beautiful, native woman named Kayla. Life looks promising for him until one day at work Stryker comes to visit him asking him to come back to the military. Logan declines. What Logan doesn't know is that he will join Stryker again. Victor finds Kayla and he pierces his nails into the car. Logan starts walking back home when he sees a bear head on the ground and markings of blood on the tree. He knows that it is the work of his brother, Victor. He follows the trail and finds his loves car in the woods. Several meters away he finds her dead body covered in blood. He then becomes enraged and finds Victor in a bar and starts one of the many Wolverine vs. Sabretooth battles in this movie. After Logan is defeated Stryker comes back telling that there is a way to defeat Victor. Logan accepts only to defeat Victor. He tells Stryker that he will leave afterwards. Stryker brings Logan to a lab. The process of Logan becoming stronger starts. He must go through a painful experiment. Stryker and all the scientists believe that Logan is dead but then his heart starts to slowly beat. Stryker tells the scientists to erase his memory. Logan hears him and becomes angry. He destroys the lab equipment he was hooked up too and escapes with no clothes on. Stryker orders a squad to follow him and to make sure that he is killed. Logan runs into a barn that an elderly couple owns. The old man, startled that a nude man just ran into his barn, grabs a gun and slowly walks in. Once the old man realizes that Logan is no harm he puts down his gun and gives Logan some of his son’s clothes. The elderly couple gives him a hot meal and lets him stay the night in the barn. The next day the old couple bring him breakfast. They are both shot from the squad chasing Logan. The squad blows up the entire barn while Logan then drives out of the barn on a motorcycle with not a mark on him or the bike. Once he takes care of the squad Agent Zero says something about an island. Out of anger Logan kills Agent Zero before he can get any information. Logan meets up with John Wraith, an old friend from the squad Logan was in, trying to find some information. John tells him that Fred Dukes would know because he was the only one who kept contact with Agent Zero. Logan has to fight Fred in a boxing match before he can get any information from him first. Afterwards he tells him where he can find a guy who knows how to get to the island and Fred also tells Logan that Victor and Stryker are together. Fred also tells Logan that the army has been capturing and killing mutants and been bringing them to the island to do experiments. Stryker was trying to make a super mutant that had all the power of the other mutants. Logan realizes that he was just one of those experiments. Logan meets up with Rémy Lébeau. Rémy notices the dog tags that Logan is wearing and thinks that Logan is there to kidnap him. He starts a battle with Logan in self defence. The battle does not last long because Victor comes and starts fighting Logan, again. After the little brawl with Logan and Victor Rémy starts fighting Logan again. Logan wins the battle and Rémy brings him to the island. Logan makes it to the island and confronts Stryker. Logan meets Kayla. Come to find out that she was a mutant as well and she is able to control anyone she touches. Her death was a set up that Victor and Stryker had created to enrage Logan enough to join Stryker's side. Logan walks away, losing all hope. He then hears Kayla scream, Victor holding her by the throat. Victor puts her down when Logan returns. At this point all three mutants realize that Stryker had been using them for his advantage. Logan releases all the captured mutants. Stryker goes into a control room and releases Weapon XI. Logan battles Weapon XI, who was an old party of his squad, but has no luck. Victor eventually comes in to help; Victor doesn't want to see Logan die from anyone else hands. They defeat Weapon XI and destroy a building in the process. In the rubble is Kayla, bleeding to death. Stryker shoots Logan in the head, losing all of Logan's memory. Right when Styker is about to shoot Kayla she grabs his leg and tells him to turn the other way and walk until his feet bleed, and then to keep walking. Logan wakes up, having no memory of his past. This movie can teach us a lot about modern culture. Though this movie has a lot of “wham, bam” action I'm pretty sure that's not the point that Stan Lee was trying to make. The hero's in Marvel comics aren't the villain fighting, everyone loves good doers that one finds in DC. The hero's are everyday people but with unnatural power. They are looked at as being different from society and most of the time becomes outcasts. The mutants are part of a subculture that society does not want to exist. The subculture of the mutants is an interesting group. Though they live, interact and even fall in love with the rest of society it is though they seem more like extra-terrestrials than human. Many of them with their powers could easily control their surroundings but they choose not to, maybe in fear that one of Stryker's squad could get them. The mutants just want to be accepted to the rest of society. The conflict/critical theorists would love this movie. Stryker's teams really prove that the powers are in control of everything. The subculture of the mutants is still over ruled by politics. Not just Stryker but all of the army wanted to use the mutants for their own uses. They saw the mutants gifts and they wanted to misuse it. The mutants just want to be accepted, we can see this in the constant running and fighting that they go through. They are a subculture within a culture that does not accept difference; which happens a lot in todays society and always has and always will. All they want to do is live a normal life but are forced to stay together to be protected.
