Since I've been laying around sick all weekend I decided this morning that I would go game hunting at Now Playing which is a store I just found thanks to the Places App on my phone (<3 that app). After getting a bit lost in this town I have never been in before I finally found the place. As I parked I could see comics in the front window, big video game displays and a sign saying hundreds of DVDs for sale. I thought to myself... This looks like my kind of a store! Man was I wrong! What's the first thing I do when I walk in? Run to the game section of course! I can see from a distance that they have a large number of NES and SNES games on the wall so I got excited. My excitement turned to depression as I noted the prices these wack jobs were asking.... 40 dollars Smash Bros N64 just the cart! I'm sorry... but go fuck yourself. This is just one of many games that were severely overpriced. This was also one of those places that puts all their games on a shelf behind the glass case filled with rarer games. The games placed on this self became very hard to see due to the distance behind the glass case. I was standing so far back that I was leaning as far as I could towards the NES games in hopes of determining what the games actually where... After searching through what they had I could only find 1 game that I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off on. I go up to the register and the old woman running the place IS SITTING ON HER ASS FUCKING WITH HER IPHONE! I was the only customer in the store and she made me wait until she was done before she checked me out! I'm thinking to myself this place couldn't possibly get any worse.... again... wrong... I don't know if it was because I am so sick but I payed for and walked out the store without checking out the disks of the game. FUCKING SCRATCHES EVERYWHERE! DEEP SCRATCHES! THE DAMN CASE HAS A STICKER ON IT SAYING PREPLAYED SO I'M THINKING ALRIGHT SOMEONE TESTED THIS THING OUT! SOOOO PISSED! Needless to say I will never return to this place. A waste of time, a waste of money, and a waste of my god damn gas! |

This sounds like a place in Toronto called "Gamerama". I used to shop there all the time, around the PS1 and early PS2 days, and I loved their selection and prices. The store has, politely put, gone to shit in recent years. The staff are the rudest, most idiotic and criminally unhelpful bunch of flunkies I have ever dealt with, and they make it very clear that they don't want to help you. I called the store once and asked if they had a specific game for the 360, and they guy simply said "Negative!" and hung up on me. On the few occasions I've actually gone in there in recent years, they did nothing to help me when I had very simple question and they were quite rude about it. The other problem is the pricing. To be fair, the store does have a good selection of retro games, but their prices are WAY off the mark. Like you mentioned about the store you went to, they charge upwards of $40 for a loose cart of a game you could easily get cheaper elsewhere. They sometimes sell games for $10 above the standard retail price, and they are absolute crap at honoring pre-ordered. Additionally, they advertise that they fix game systems, however I have had a few friends claim that the staff lost their systems and refused to compensate for it. So yeah, I totally know where you're coming from. If anyone is in Toronto, or planning a visit, avoid Gamerama. Even if their selection is decent, these ass-clowns will never get another penny out of me. |

One time I bought an Xbox game from Hollywood videos. I, similar to you, didn't check whether the game was in good condition. Later on when I cracked the case open, I noticed how the CD itself looked like was contaminated. It wasn't scratched, it looks like someone spill something on it which case cause the CD react a certain way. Anyways, the game didn't play, so I returned the game to get my money back. Apparently the manager was there, and he was adamant to point out they had a no return policy. I pointed out how the game was in bad condition, but he said he could not do anything about it, that it was my fault for not checking the CD before purchasing the game. I told him that Gamestop would have would have given me a refund, he said this wasn't Gamestop. I told him this was bullshit, and he nonchalantly responded by telling me to not use profanity. He then offered to check if he buy it from me, and although reluctant on the idea that I might get a fourth of what the game was worth I said I'd be willing... But The game wasn't even re-sellable... I understand how it was my fault, but at least Gamestop has some sort of principle amongst their employees about customer satisfaction. The Hollywood video later on went out of business and had a liquidation, which I took advantage of. So.. Hah. |

Just wait till the place inevitably has a going out of business sale because no one wants to buy things there at outrageous prices. Hopefully you'll be able to get games for pennies on the dollar, and feel a little vindicated along the way. =) |

Did you read my post? xD The irony, but it's so true. One of the games I bought was 2 disgaea sealed for 4 bucks altogether. I a couple of other stuff, the liquidation was really good, unlike... Circuit City's.. |

I found this game store called Trader Bills. I like the store and all, good prices..... but for some reason feel like hes fucking with me. I put 3 games on layaway.... Collectors Editon Gears of War 1, Doom 3 (collectors edition, and something else...... He forgets to put the games in the cases. Now I have to drive back and get the games. A little while ago I put Intelligent Qube and FF Anthology on layaway. I go to pick it up and FFA is fine with all the discs but....... I open the Intelligent Qube case and quess what game I saw... not Intelligent Qube but FUCKING CRASH BASH!!!!!!!!!!. It's so irrating having to drive all the way back to the store. Whenever I buy games from the store and pay for them that day it's fine..... but whenever I put a game on layaway this stupid shit happens!!!!!! |

Wow, i've never experienced that crappy of an experience. The only time where I felt a little pissed off was at a local electronics store where I bought Street Fighter 4 when it was released, I got home only to find out that there was no disc in the case (And mind you, this was a completely new game), so I of course returned with my game and told them that it was missing the disc. I had to go through two store clerks who didn't believe me before I got to the manager, who then believed me as other customers had returned with the same issue, what annoyed me was that those other customers must have spoken to the clerks just like I did, i'd be surprised if all of them got to the manager first, so they must've known that something was wrong. |

I remember a store we got that had ridiculous nostalgia pricing. My favorite was a $70 bootleg NES game being sold as an "import" |

Oh man, I just saw the part about Hollywood Video going under, but yup, so very, very true. Treat the customer right and well come again and again, fists full of cash in tow. Treat us terribly, and we'll bide our time until we can scavenge the store's rotting carcase for all it's worth.
