Well as my other thread says I want to start a video game store, and after yesterday I want to start off more. But I need to figure out how to do this. I want to do it more because I went retro game shopping. So I went to a store yesterday after calling and they told me that they had an "EXTENSIVE" array of retro video games. I walk in...and I'm looking around for their retro video games, and the girl showed me. showed me.. All 8 of their NES games, all 12 of their Genesis games, and all 20 of their SNES games. That basically killed my want of shopping for the day. Well I get home and did some research/calling of stores to see if there are ANY shops that sell retro games. Zero, literally absolutely ZERO within a 50 mile radius. Of course you have the pawn shops and etc, but it was literally..Gamestop,Gamestop,Gamestop,Gamestop, and etc. It's kind of discouraging wondering why no game store other than Gamestop can stay in business ( although I know why), but it starts to really suck when I can't go anywhere to where I could hang out and talk to people anymore about retro gaming, or even play retro games, and all that. The pawn shops are SOMETIMES a great place to get stuff, but after going to all of them. There is nothing left. /rant off |

Welcome to my world, nothing sells retro near where i live so i always HAVE to resort to ebay. If something does pop up it is stupidly priced and not worth half of what they marked it at. I'd have to travel over 100 miles just to visit store that has any real retro stuff.

Yeah same here there's like nothing but one store and it's way overpriced with bad service. None of the GoodWills ever have anything. However I have a campsite out on a river up in Windsor, Ny like 40 miles away and there's a couple good stores I go to when I'm up there along with a pretty good fleamarket. |

Didn't you just buy out a retro store's stock? At least there was a retro store around your neighborhood. You try Craigslist? Also very hit and miss, but you can occassionally score some really good deals without driving all around town to find them. |

This is my question towards Op. I used to have several retro stores around my area, but thanks to the recession, I get to rejoice in a whole world of Gamestops and nothingness. ;| |

It's funny how in the future we may not have any game retailers available at all let alone any retro game shops. Perhaps the collapse of GAME could encourage more of these types of stores? it would be nice. I think i've seen a couple of independent stores selling some retro games in a few areas around London but i can't imagine how they can cope at the moment. |

I defiantly recommend video game traders in orange city best store i found so far there pretty new only been around for two years. Like i said prices are reasonable, I pick up sealed games for the snes for around 10 dollars and they were not sport tittles. Plus the staff love to talk about games old or new. On a side note if you are into spanish food there a place next door to game trader that has the best spanish food i ever had. Every time i go to the games store i had to stop there and eat. |

I kinda am toying around the idea of opening up a video game shop centered around retro gaming too because i don't really anyplace around me (long island) that sells retro games other then thrift stores. But im not really sure how well it will do. |
