I Like Games.

I am very on the fence about this game, I need impressions/reviews. I watched the GiantBomb quick look and to be honest I was really interested in the game afterwards, but I need to know, are the controls really THAT bad? to me I love a game that does not hold your hand in termsof exploration, and this game seems to bring that plus the atmosphere is really creepy. Tell me, is it worth buying?

I played the trial a few days ago, then finally bit the bullet last night and purchased it. Im not that far in so i cant really comment on the freedom of exploration or hand holding etc.

So far though it seems fairly linear, there is the odd sidetrack here and there but its not like you have an expansive city to climb around and you dont really have any alternative ways to achieve certain goals...other than deciding wether to give someone a medkit or not. :/

I havent had any problems with the controls, and this is from someone that just bought a 360 again and hasnt really played one in the last year. My only problem was the 1200 MS points, i always grudge forking out that much points for a digital download on xbl. Maybe it'll be worth it though

I can maybe be a bit more helpful after i play a bit more today, like i said im not that far in but i am quite enjoying it. It was a toss up between this and Hard Corps:Uprising for me, but thought i'd show the troubled project some love...if it does well then maybe they'll make a 2nd game. Who knows?

This game's overall concept is almost genius and it aspires to be something grandiose and epic. However, this is not the case. It can be very frustrating at times when you die and have to restart at badly spread-out checkpoints, the gameplay is fairly repetitive the exploration isn't that in-depth, and overall, its an average game. For 15 dollars there's no harm in copping it because the concept is cool. The controls aren't terrible though. Just don't go in expecting a great game.

Bought it day one, started a thread about it here too. I really enjoyed my time w/ the game. It plays best w/ a good set of gaming headphones and played in the dark for total immersion. There are a few quirks in the controls/combat, but once you figure it out it becomes really fun. I had some intense gaming moments playing it. Purchase.

From the half an hour I watched of a friend of mine playing, I'm not interested in it at all. While he insisted he was enjoying himself, I watched him struggle with the controls, die and be sent back an unfairly long way away, and walk through bland areas with distance fog. I guess the fog was supposed to be story related, but what infamous game was that an excuse for? Joking aside, I didn't have a big problem with it graphically, as I'm quite forgiving when it comes to that stuff. But the gameplay just looked incredibly awkward and didn't really make sense (like how the enemies seem to forget that you have a gun after you put it back at your side). It didn't look terrible, but I wasn't very impressed by it.

This game pre-dates the game you are talking about with the fog. This is a re-release of an old game that was originally on PC, or am I confused?

No, he's makign a reference to Superman 64. I Am Alive is not related to Superman in any shape or form.

As for the game itself, it's not going to appeal to most people, it's very much a niche title.

(I played in survival mode, so my opinion is about that mode, and not EASY) It's very methodical, you have to plan your route, plan how you approach enemies, and be very conservative in everything you do. Otherwise you'll die, and be sent back a significant amount of time. It adds weight and consequence to the times you fuck up and die.

While the controls aren't perfect, they won't ever really mess up what you're doing. The path finding in the climbing segments could have done with a tad bit more polish, but again, nothing that'll cripple your progress through the game.

All I can say, is if you liked the book / movie ' The Road ' - give this a try. While the settings and story are completely different, the overall tone of bleakness and just all round depressive nature of the title makes it worth a play through. However, for most people, I'd honestly recommend waiting until it gets a discount, as it's not one of the most approachable games out there.

But, for the people who are dismissing it as 'shit' - you're completely wrong. It's a very good game. Just one not to your liking. The graphics are acceptable, the fog adds to the experience, never detracting from it. And while combat could do with a bit more spice, it's no where near as bad as the sensationalistic media make it out to be. Oh, and the only real negative is the ending. It comes out of nowhere and isn't elaborated on at all. It's not terrible (ME3) - but it could have done with a bit more time given to it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and will be revisiting to play on EASY and help all survivors. WOOP

I know it's not related to Superman, dude. I thought he was making a reference to Silent Hill. Either way, I got confused between the game "I have no mouth and I must scream" and this one for some reason.

I still hyavent completed it yet, but it's next on the cards seeing as i finally got ME1 & 2 out of the way. So far its alright at best, for me anyway.

I like the path finding but the combat is just terrible. I get your not a soldier or a superhero of course, but surely you dont need to wait for someone to start kneeling down before smashing them in the face with your pistol, do you? His hands are already up in the air and in no position to block.

But like i said, the pathfinding is fun and finding certain objects/item for certain people is fun too. Its not a stellar title by any means but its worth a play.

If Ubisoft could do a decent pc port once in a while then i could see this doing a lot better on steam to be honest. A platform where you may actually get a discount at some point... :/
