Brief analysis(From Wikipedia): Features the retina display and has four times more pixels than the previous iPad model. Processor boost with the A5X processor. Improved 5 megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p videos, an improvement from the 720p the iPad 2 had. Comes in regular wifi and 4g version. The screen: Upon turning the device on it became pretty obvious that the iPad 3's retina screen display will deliver. The screen is so much brighter and the colors and pictures are more crisp. If you own an iPod 4 or iPhone 4s, just imagine having a gigantic version of those screens. Performance: The iPad 3 is FAST! Applications run much smoother and the common iOS issue of apps randomly crashing are pretty much non-existant. Games that will take a while to load on older iOS devices run much quicker with the iPad 3. The good: It's bright, it's fast and it can and will perform what you mostly do with your computers. If you want a book, it can be a Kindle, if you want to cook, it can be a cook book, if you're a college student, it can replace your notes. The functions it can perform are endless. Battery life amazing, I haven't charged it yet from when I turned it on this morning at around 11am. It's already 2am as I type this. The bad: This model is a little bit heavier than the older one despite being 33%thinner. I also noticed that it heats up pretty quick, I find my palms sweating and uncomfortable holding it after about an hour of use. Some apps that are not available in HD also doesn't look appealing on the iPad 3. Why buy it? Why not?: Buy this if you are a student, or if you like being creative. If you're the type of person that just likes to surf the internet while hanging out at Starbucks then the iPad 3 will be a good companion. Don't buy this if you already have the previous model and don't care much for the retina screen, because the previous model will do just as good what the iPad 3 can do. |

Sounds like it will be great for web browsing and reading PDFs. I like my Kindle Touch, but even the simplest of PDFs causes it to hang, and it's hard to read. As long as I can get the book in Amazon's own format or mobi, it's usually fine. I imagine games would be great on the new iPad, but games built for touch from the ground up would definitely be preferred to some of the games I've played/seen that use an onscreen controller. It's an obvious move to make, but just seems lazy to me. Developers take the obvious route, rather than trying to be creative and finding ways to make the controls work. |

I am actually contemplating getting one within the next few months. I really would like to see what the deal is, since the iPad first came out when I was already in Japan, so I missed a lot of the media explosions over it. |

I have the iPad 2, and I think I'm going to hold off upgrading for now. I'd LOVE to have the new display, because I tend to read comics, strategy guides and web sites quite often on it... but I need a new iMac instead. Gonna have to wait. Still, it looks fantastic! |

I was kinda hoping for something more then just the sharper screen and faster processor....so think I'm skipping this one. I'm still enjoying my iPad2, which is more then enough to fill my tablet needs. |

The features (screen resolution) seem pretty impressive, but the biggest thing I like is that they have decided to continue to sell the ipad 2 at a reduced price. Kind of makes me wish the ipad 1's were still around for an even cheaper price new. I may end up with an ipad 2 at some point in the near future though. |

lol i realize this. I was attempting to point out how ridiculous calling it "The New iPad" is. Jobbs has been gone less than a year and they're already doing stupid shit. |

Like? I don't think calling it the new iPad is smart either but it's something that won't seriously hurt the company. The only downside with the iPad is that it cost more to make it while the retail price remained the same. Like you said, Steve has only been gone for a year, it takes more than that time to learn how to run a multi billion dollar company. It's actually pretty impressive that Cook still managed to keep the company running without losing money, when something like Jobs' death will hurt a company's financial end. |
