Capcom is one of the many companies trying to find ways to use microtransactions to exploit their customers. Remember back in the day when you could unlock 5 - 10 characters by beating the game in different ways with different people? That's one of the main things I LIKED about fighting games to be honest with you. I'm not saying the gaming population in general isn't entitled because any of us who take a look at gamers in general know that it's a pretty whiny and entitled group... but Capcom is NOT in the right. Give us the game you made, create some more content for it later, and THEN sell it to us.

What's interesting about this is that in SF4, it took some very unique ways of beating arcade mode to unlock akuma and gouken. Many of the other characters also had to be unlocked, i think about 10 of them from what I remember. by beating arcade mode with other fighters. Tons of people whined about it, and when Super came out, everyone was so relieved and said how great it was that all the characters were unlocked from the start.

Not to be a dick, but for everyone who decide to insult my view point w/o listening to the podcast is ignorant.
Not really. No one needs to listen to the podcast to know that someone there is defending Capcom or at least okay with their practices. Well guess what, other people aren't okay with them. Some guy on a podcast isn't suddenly going to change that. Hardly makes people ignorant for having a different opinion than you.

What pisses me off about Capcom in particular is the fact that they disregard certain series that have quite big fanbases, just because they don't think they could sell as strongly as the next RE or SF game.

The whole DLC on the disc thing is quite annoying, and if I was to purchase any of their multitude of fighting games, I wouldn't bother buying the DLC characters unless I got really into the competitive side of the game. I'll leave it for my friends (who are much more into the SF series) to pick up, and play it when I see them.

Capcom, and increasingly EA are beginning to look like they are squeezing every last drop of change out of gamer's pockets. If you look at EA's impact on the Mass Effect series, I'd say many fans would agree that the series went downhill as it went along (and in fact, as it tried to tap into the mainstream (CoD playing) market.)

Capcom used to be a company I had great faith in, and in fact, I am a huge fan of Monster Hunter (and will pick up any of the games that they release here for the series) however I've gotten annoyed at a lot of their practices recently...

I'm not going to listen to the podcast just because one or two people are still ok with the company and have different opinions to me, but that is partially down to the fact that I don't like to jump into podcasts where I don't really know the hosts and whatnot. I like to start podcasts at the first episode if possible.

Each component of game content is a type of “media art” with a high degree of creativity. Components include images, stories, perspectives, music, interactive capabilities and other elements. As a result, every component has sufficient appeal on its own to be used in other media.

Capcom holds a massive volume of popular content. Our single content multiple usage strategy involves utilizing this intellectual property in many applications. This makes us a company that can generate earnings from the same content again and again.

Pursuing this strategy has allowed us to build on the accomplishments of our Consumer Online Game business to be successful in the fields of mobile content, pachinko and pachislo machines, arcade machines, movies, books, character goods and other activities.

Capcom.co.jp - Investor Relations

They're pretty transparent about what they do. They don't need to defend the practice openly because they don't feel what they're doing is wrong. I don't agree with their practices and I've been buying their titles on a case by case basis for the last couple of years. I was going to all out boycott after MML3, but that's just going to keep myself from enjoying some truly great titles.

I have a huge problem with on disc DLC, but it's even worse when you have a downloadable title and have an unlock key for that as well (Mega Man 9). "Here's a piece of software! Oh by the way, don't forget to pay extra for that extra character that has been desired but never playable before now! You already have it downloaded, but we want more money."

In all honesty, it's a good business practice because it's bringing them money. However, there's only so far they can go with this before they begin alienating the people who DO like the extra content. I believe Capcom will continue pushing the envelope until then.

Well the company is doing well and I don't think their sales have suffered at all. Yes it's greedy but it also appears to be a smart decision for the company.
