Well it was going to happen eventually but we are now starting to see the effects of GAME's financial crisis. Both stores where I am currently living have closed down in Preston and the one in my home town has also been set to close. 277 stores have been or are set to close resulting in 2,104 job losses. It is very upsetting to see so many people lose their jobs right now. Who else has started to see their local GAME stores close down? http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/store-closures-begin-at-game-and-gamestation/093365 |

I have 2 GAME's and a gamestation in my town, all within 5mins of each other...and they are all staying open! Really wierd that, but they apparently do really well next to stores in other towns so i guess they decided to keep them open. They could have closed one of the GAME stores though, its pointless and bever has anything good. :/ |

RBS is bailing GAME out apparently. I think the plan is to try and recover, at half strength. They need to get rid of the entire upper management team, and address some serious shortcomings within the company. |

I've personally never been in a GAME store, but i've shopped many times on their webshop, i've had nothing but good experiences with them in that regard, and they ship really fast considering I live in another country. So maybe they should put their focus on the online bit instead? |

I still have £27 worth of points on a reward card, so hopefully thats not one of the things they end up changing. I'm wanting to spend it soon (but I'm still waiting on a replacement card coming in the post) I'm not too sure what the closures are like here though, I've been too busy at uni to check. I've seen one that I normally go to close so far, and one gamestation I've heard closed down. Both of them had some games I was interested in preowned. Do they just put the stock into other branches they keep open? |

I heard you wont be able to use your reward cards anymore, or even gift cards bought previously at the store before it went into administration. :/ |

They've just reinstated rewards cards, though you can only use them against pre-owned games right now. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-29-game-administrators-reactivate-reward-cards |

Glasgow Central had 2 GAME's and 2 GS's, one of each is shutting. The GS that's staying open is next to G-Force and the GAME that's staying is in the St Enochs Centre. This ofcourse means that the GAME and GS that's shut down is the ones directly across the street from one another. But hey, there's still G-force (which is hit or miss, really depends on who serves you) and a more recent shop that deals with games, movies and DVD's, their game section is small but it's still got more PS2 and Xbox games than I seen in any of the GS's or GAMEs. The other gamestation I goto in Hamilton hasn't shut yet but they've stopped taking games in. If they do survive, I hope they understand they can't fuck with their customers when online is the rival. Even with their "big price drop" I've still seen the same games go cheaper online. |

I live in Glasgow and hardly ever seen anyone in those branches that have shut down. I'd pop into either when walking down Sauchiehall Street and the Gamestation especially was always dead. They really couldn't have got much business. Whereas G-Force is usually pretty busy, it's a good place to pop into if you're waiting on a train! It looks more like a games shop than a warehouse with games so I'd rather give them the business. Though at the end of the day, I go online 99% of the time. |

I stay in Glasgow as well, and thought they had shut down the Gamestation near G-Force down as well. I like G-Force for some import RPGs that are sometimes quite hard to find, plus they have some quite hard to find preowned games. Only problem I have with them is the prices are a little bit too high. I usually end up doing a lot more online shopping for games than in shops. But before the closures, I'd normally go into the sauchiehall st or buchanan galleries shops as I'm at uni at Cally. They were quiet though, and didn't seem to have a great selection of stock. Still, I hope the company can get change and become competitive with the online shops somehow.. |

I'm really scared that the game store near me is going to close because he has the best stuff and doesn't get a whole lot of customers D: |

I think they've already decided on the shops that are closed (and I think they've already been closed) at least for now. The link skooks posted had a lot of info in it, including lists of the branches that are open. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-29-these-211-game-stores-are-still-open-for-business http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-03-29-these-122-gamestation-stores-are-still-open-for-business Edited by Berserk_Alucard, Mar 31 2012, 10:18 AM.

The GAME in my town closed down about a year ago, but the Gamestation stayed open. I think it's being kept open too, which is good as I know a couple of people that work there and it would be sad to see them lose their jobs. All in all, it's a pretty grim time for the UK gaming market. Most people I know get their games from ASDA or buy online as it's cheaper and more convenient. I dunno how the game stores can compete with online and supermarkets, but it'd be sad to see them disappear from high streets completely. |

I'm hoping that GAME and GS respect their customers more from this (don't think they're better than the internet) As I mentioned before, G-force is hit or miss, it depends on who's on duty, there's one guy I don't like and another I do. At least G-force has survived this long because there's been other game shops trying to open on that one street. Microplay tried to, that went under. Reload tried after that and they seemed to last less than 3 months. It was quite sad... On the other hand, the games I get from G-force always seem to have discs in great condition (probably because they are also a repair shop) while GS and GAME often have games in horrible condition. |
