I think DOOM is much, much, MUCH f***ing better than any Call of Duty game out there. Sure, on Xbox Live, I am completely aware that no one plays the online multiplayer in XBL Doom anymore, but the campaign in Doom is worth the gameplay! Whereas, in my opinion, the campaign in every modern Call of Duty game is either mediocre or just mind-numbingly boring! I think the next COD game should be more like Team Fortress 2. No mediocre campaign, just strictly online, because that's all people buy CoD games for nowdays anyway, just to play online. And I will admit, not being a big CoD guy by any means necessary, the online mode is kinda fun when you're bored and got nothing else to do. So therefore, I pick Doom over the overrated hunkajunka that is the Call of Duty series.

Did you make this thread just to bash on CoD?

As it otherwise seems like a pretty pointless thread, as you are trying to compare CoD to a game which (Together with Wolfenstein 3D of course) founded what we now know as a first person shooter.

Doom all the way man, though i do agree the comparison is a bit off. Its kind of like comparing Ultima or Wizardry to The Witcher 2.

Without DOOM there would be no COD, or at least not nearly as popular! DOOM all the way!

Actually you are not joking. Since COD is actually based on a highly modified Quake 3.5ish engine which is the grandchild of DOOM. No DOOM? No Quake. No Quake? No COD.

The same can be said for a ton of games out there even Half Life.

My choice is Doom. But COD isn't bad. I just rather play Day of Defeat or Battlefield.

I generally dislike the FPS genre, but Doom is nostalgic for me.

Easy one for me, Doom. I will admit, I do enjoy the campaign mode on CoD games, for one play through. I never feel the need to revisit them and I have largely gone off the online mode.

As for Doom, I've probably played almost every console port of it. Though never played it on PC though. I always get the earge to go through it and I am still enjoying the excellent XBLA I brought ages ago, experiencing the new episodes for the first time. It goes without saying that if there was no Doom then FPS probably wouldn't be has dominant as they are. But the real magic of Doom is how well it has aged. Graphically it brings back alot of nostalgia and combined with the excellent sound still manages to create an atmosphere that CoD games servilely lack. That's not mentioning the excellent level design throughout all the Episodes. Its a no brainer.

In short I think people remember CoD as a franchise but not each individual game as they all seem to have the same feel. Doom will always remain a massively enjoyable and nostalgic game for old fans and new gamers alike.

What about every Doom clone and add on? If you're going to compare, compare the originals. Did you ever play the original Call of Duty? It had one of the most refined narratives I had ever seen in an FPS and presented in such a way that it felt cinematic in pacing and structure. Like most people have said, they're two different animals, but don't compare Doom to Call of Duty 15 if you're going to make baseless comparisons.

Doom, of course. I'm not a huge fan of cove shooters, really. This comparison seems a little silly to make given just how apples and oranges it is. If you're not a fan of CoD, that's fine, but there are more constructive ways of discussing the series, it's impact on the genre, and the industry, and how one feels about all of this.
