I had never played any of the Star Soldier games before, but I got Super Star Soldier on the Wii Virtual Console several weeks ago. It was OK, but I'm not sure if I'm really sold on the series. It seemed like a fairly straightforward overhead shooter, and didn't really have anything to set it apart from other similar games.

Are there any Star Soldier fans out there? I'd like to hear your thoughts on the series.

And now there's a TurboViews review of Super Star Soldier! It's always great to see new reviews posted!

Anyway, I've honestly never been a fan of the series, simply because it's too darn hard for me. I never beat Blazing Lazers either (though I can get to the last stage before all hope is lost).

The ending of the review is pretty funny!

Ah, so that's why sometimes I re-spawned in place, and sometimes I was sent back to the beginning of the stage. I couldn't figure that out.

I ought to give the game another shot. Pete Dorr mentioned a couple of months back that he had really gotten into the Star Soldier series. Still, for some reason, I think I prefer the horizontally scrolling shoot-em-ups, like R-Type, Gradius II, Lords of Thunder and Gate of Thunder.

Anyway, congratulations, Chris!

Final Soldier: http://youtu.be/xBNJuO3_raU

I always heard this was the weakest game in the series, and Chris addresses this in the review. He seems to like it just fine, tho. I believe Pete Dorr also once mentioned that it was one of his favorites in the series.

I have trouble making it to the end of Star Soldier games :/ If this wasn't an import I would give Final Soldier a shot, I just don't have an import setup at the moment

If you have a Wii, it's available on Virtual Console.

In fact, all of the games in the Star Solder series are on the Virtual Console, except for Vanishing Earth on the N64. Plus, there's Star Soldier R on WiiWare.

I've been in the mood for a shoot'em-up lately, and I'm trying to decide between Soldier Blade and Blazing Lazers. I'm leaning towards Soldier Blade, but I thought I'd see if anyone had any opinions about them. I've heard that Blazing Lazers "feels" different than the Star Soldier games, but what does that mean exactly? What are the differences?
