Since we had so much fun doing the Q&A episode, it seems like a good idea to make listener questions are reguar thing on the podcast. Obviously we can't do regular 4 hour extravaganzas like the last time, however answering questions on a consistent basis is a great way to interact with our listeners. Depending on the volume we get, we'll answer them weekly or bank them up for later episodes.

So there you go, ask us anything you like and any topic. Gaming questions are always welcome, but off-topic and bizarre questions are also welcome and encouraged.

But enought talk, have at you...

Hi guys this is my question for you-

What game was released that you loved but didn't sell well at retail? For me it would be Maestro! Jump in Music for the DS. It was a very refreshing music game in a over saturated market.

Thanks for the great podcast and keep up the good work!

I have a question that I don't think anyone asked about yet. What are your thoughts about specific games in a certain series that are catered by different developers than the company that created the original games? In other words, how do you feel about the event in which a different development studio takes over a game series that has been partial to another company. Many times, this thing can be for better or worse. It's better in a sense that a new game developer can add something to, or revitalize the original idea set in stone by the past developer. For example, Bethesda ultimately revitalized the fallout series and made it relevant again. Another case can be seen in how the Metroid Prime games, where the conpany made the game its own in a sense, anreaders a freh new perspective on the Metroid univers. On the other hand, new developers on a specific game series, such as in the case with the Spyro and Crash Bandicoot series , can make the game feel different and unrelateable in a negative way, and unfortunatly turning the series into somthing alot different then from it once wasI bring this topic up due to the recent news that the next Super Smash Bros. game will be developed by Namco an that the next Halo game will have a new developer as well. Would you guys be ok with a Mario, Megaman, Sonic, Half-Life, or Zelda game being created by a different developer than the one that brought up the series from it's birth? Let me know. Thanks

I have heard Andy refer to an amount of money in terms of a "cred" or a "quid". I'm not sure which he is saying and I am quite confused by this since I thought they use the pound in the UK. Is this some kind of slang word like we say "buck" in the US?

Something I've noticed on this forum and on other boards, older gamers (including myself) opinions are strongly based on nostalgia. My question to you guys is: what is your perspective on nostalgia, can it be positive, are there negative aspects? Are people jaded? How do you approach and identify with nostalgia?

For instance, I've seen people claim that a sequel, which objectively is superior to the previous iteration, lacks the 'magic'. I, and many others, root this backlash to objectively good games to nostalgia. However, I do admit if the development team / art studio isn't necessarily composed of the same people, I can see where the 'magic' criticism comes from. For instance, you can't really 'replace' Nomura or Uematsu's artistic vision. On the other hand, it doesn't necessarily mean the new developer or artistic vision is 'bad', rather our opinions might be jaded since 10 or 20 years ago.

Would you rather own a game that is super valuable(that you can't open and can't sell) or would you rather own a game that you can play, but its already open and you can sell it.

I’m more of a retro gamer myself, and to be frank, one of the reasons for this is that I find most modern games to be pointless wastes of time. For example, my friend lent me his copy of the much exalted Uncharted 2 for PS3, and I just gave up on it very late in the game (I’m assuming north of 90% through) because I just couldn’t wait for it to end. He also lent me God of War 3 ages ago; I got about 2 hours into it, and haven’t had any desire to touch it again for over a year now.

It’s like, I was watching this epic cutscene, when suddenly, a video game broke out.

Seriously though, what I learned is that, aside from the boring as f*&k cutscenes, one of the reasons I find such games so dreadfully uninteresting is the fact that I have no good way of measuring my performance. I like old games—in particular, challenging arcade games—because I have a score that objectively measures my skill, and there is a real sense of accomplishment that comes from beating my previous best scores (or those of others). A game like Uncharted takes no skill whatsoever—all it takes is patience and an internet connection.

Now, I know what you’re probably thinking, but sorry—“trophies” and “achievements” don’t count as a meaningful merit system, at least not for me. As far as I’m concerned, if achieving a high score on an arcade game is like winning an Olympic gold, then a “trophy” on PSN is like receiving a participation ribbon at a town fair chili cook-off. Not nearly the same thing.

Obviously you guys aren’t as bent as I am over current industry trends, as you will happily talk about the latest interactive movies all day long. That’s fine, my point is not to try to turn anybody against modern games. I was just wondering if you guys care (or have ever cared) about high scores, if yes on what games, and what do you think about the de facto death of that classic gaming paradigm?

Many thanks for the great show guys

PS—cheers Ben, from a fellow SW Ontarian.

hey guys,

when you was in the arcade and you was down to your last 20p what was your go to game, the game that you could clear or get really far in?

mine was a football game called tecmo world cup 90. i could finish that game every time, which took about 25 mins. so i knew i was getting some good time out of my 20p

It was pissing down with rain on the way home from the pub last night so i thought it would be the perfect time to ask, whats the worst weather you've walked home from the pub drunk? Did it sober you up? Did you pass out and wake up in a puddle in the middle of a field? Maybe you woke up to a snowman you've never met before and you had some unprotected contact with his carrot?

Also, i was a little drunk filming this...but i just couldnt pass up the chance to catch some of that rain. ;) Just excuse my language cause i swear a lot...im from scotland after all.

Riddle me this Rascals of Rad,

When it comes to gaming, and there is a port available on a new generation console. Would you prefer to play it on the old console or the new generation. For example when it come to Jet Set Radio, I not only have the DC game (the only DC game I have that survived) but in lack of having a dreamcast I got in on XBLA (which i love) and i even picked it up for iOS (which was impressive in my opinion)

Till next time

Hi, my name is Michael aka podmode. Lately you guys have been talking about fitness and health goals. As a Professional Fitness Trainer and competative bodybuilder as well as a hardcore gamer I've noticed something over the years. Ever since I discovered the youtube gaming community, it's been in the back of my mind whenever I watch peoples videos that nearly every gamer is out of shape. I'm not judging in any way, it's just fitness is my other passion besides gaming and I can't help but notice this trend. It's as if every gamer I see is either overweight, obese, or unhealthily skinny and frail looking. It's as if they disregard their health and appearance completely. On a side note, most seem to also look as if they just rolled out of bed not even making the slightest attempt to look presentable on camers.
I guess my question is, why does this happen? Is it because working out and following a healthy diet and taking care of themselves would take time away spent gaming, or do gamers play games because they don't have confidence in their appearance and isolate themselves with games to put that out of their mind? Like I said I'm not judging anyone. This is something that has made me wonder over the years and I'd like to know what you guys think on the subject.
