What does Pete do for work?

I'm not asking this in a condescending or rude way, I'm just generally curious. The amount of stuff he has acquired is mind numbing. I realize he is making money off of Youtube now but even in his earliest of videos his collection is still ridiculous.

So yeah, anyone know what Pete does?

Oh and props to Pete, his collection is awesome. Everytime I watch his vids it just makes me want to collect.

I'm sure he wants to keep that to himself but I believe he works at a normal job like the rest of us. Just like the rest of us, he has acquired his collection over a long amount of time (years).

Just a couple of things to remember:

Dude has been collecting for years, this isn't just something he's built up over the past 3-4 years, pretty sure he's been at it since he first started gaming.

I think he still works as the meanest pimp on the streets. Working for that cash dollar.

Yeah I fully realize that a collection particularly as big as Petes is not built over night Im sure hes been at it for a long time. Still though youve got to have quite the income to be able to purchase what he does and still have money for the bills of life.

I'm just curious you know? Its like if you see someone with a brand new BMW or a huge house all decked out in the newest stuff, you think to yourself "I wonder what he does for work?".

It's cool dude.

I think Pete only buys when the price is right. You can look at the rare titles he has, and see what they go for on eBay... I think Pete waits until he can get them for cheaper, and THEN snaps them up. Makes his cash go further.

If memory serves, Pete works in a big chain of stores. Just something that allows him to do what he enjoys, and study on the side. Smart thing to do imo. :)

Also, even collectors sell off items they feel they dont really benefit from. If you can sell a game for a good buck and purchase another gem that you might actually enjoy then it makes sense.

Not everyone has crazy expenses either, when i see how much everyone else pays for rent compared to myself it makes me sick sometimes.

If I remember correctly, he works at Best Buy and goes to school on the side. The question of how he affords his games comes up very often, and he has kept this information to himself as most other Youtubers do.

Game collecting can actually be quite affordable if you're smart about it. Most collectors are bargain hunters who seek out good deals and they save a lot of money as a result. Some also buy valuable games and merchandise and flip them for profit, so the money often doesn't come out of pocket. You don't need to have a high-paying job and wads of cash to throw around to be a game collector, just patience.

I guess I'll give a more direct answer than the other guys.

I recall he said he worked at Best Buy years ago, but he's also graduated with an Arts Degree. He's also receives revenue from Youtube, perhaps he's also sponsored by other sites? He's also mentioned making investments on products he contemplated in rising in value, which he has reported success. Then he once mentioned how, while he was going to college, the money he earned went directly to the games he bought, so he didn't need to worry about outside expenses.

I know far too much.

Is it true Midi, that you stand outside Pete's window late at night, softly, gently stroking his bedroom window. Whispering lyrics to cheesy love songs under your breath?

I've been around this community for far too long. I think I was one of his earliest subscribers, and as a collector and like Justchillin, I was astounded by how he managed to build the collection that he had. I was also a collector far before the Youtube community, so I was interested to know how people generated the collection that they had. Also, when you're around this community for so long, you learn far too much. Meh.

I think he does make a good amount from youtube ,although I highly doubt it is enough to live on, it is still probably a good amount of money to spend on games monthly. He has 2 partnered channels not counting the partnered AGG channel. Personally I make about $20 a month on youtube with averaged around 500-700 views on my newer videos so just look at Pete's views and you can imagine how much he makes. In that sense look at Gamesters 5 channels not including the partnered AGG channels. That's 6 partnered channels and look at the views he gets. In short, I believe they all make plenty of money enough to support thier gaming habits, attend conventions, travel, etc. but not enough to quit thier day jobs. Keep in mind this is all speculation.

XxKomebackKidxX, you would have to do it more frequently in order to maintain a living from Youtube, practically daily.

Yea thats true. Only the people with millions of views and subscribers have the potential to make a living out of it. Those are the people who make vids almost daily.

VGA makes a living off of broadcasting themselves. However, they rely on Youtube and Twitch the last I recall. They have less subscribers than PeteDorr, so it is possible to make a living off of making videos daily.

To all of you who think it is simply youtube money, just look at his collection before he had 10s of thousands of subscribers. The games are still there. I think I have explained this a million times.

It actually isn't that hard. Works at store(best buy), spends nearly all his money on gaming, and has very low cost of living. IE no rent, probably has school paid for or on a loan, no food costs cause lives at home, buys/sells games, and many years to build up collection. I am telling you all right now, if you are smart enough with getting great deals you can support your entire hobby buying and selling games. And trust me, Pete has given a million hints throughout his videos that he does do this and that he seriously cares about the value of his games.

It would be a scary thought to even try to calculate how much money in just pure profit Pete has sitting in that room. Tons of those games, statues, collectibles, etc...are worth 2-3x+ what he originally paid for them and when some of those items cost in the 100s of dollars that is a lot of money. I am assuming he spends over 10 grand a year on game related stuff also.

It all comes down to % and priority. It doesn't matter if he makes 20k a year or 500k a year. Throw in how much a person is willing to spend and how much one's cost of living is. There are plenty of rich people who wouldn't be caught dead spending a quarter of what he spends on gaming stuff even if they like games. In reality he doesn't make much money when compared to an established middle aged adult, but when someone's priorities are HEAVILY put on gaming/collecting a lot less money can go along way.

If I make 100,000 a year, but I have 3 kids, a wife, house bills, college savings, car payments, etc...to worry about in the end of the day Pete's fraction of income, low cost of living, and priorities would make him look a lot richer than me.

That makes sense, I mean if you dont have any expenses to pay I can see how his collection has grown so large.
