My DS Lite Hinge is Damaged; I need cheap and affordable help

This happened moments ago, I was about to go to my bed when I noticed closing it felt weird, I looks like it has snapped or close to snapping completely and i'm now scared to open it. Is there any way I can fix this cheaply because I have to pay a lot of money to have nintendo do it even though by my understanding it should be free because it is a design flaw. Also I'm not good at DIY repair so that may be out the window

When did you buy it? If you're lucky it still under warranty. If it's out of warranty and broken, i'd suggest buying a new one, a DS Lite isn't all that expensive anymore, and it would certainly be a lot cheaper than having someone repair it.

Also;

Why should it be free? It's a hinge! It gets worn out over time wether you like it or not, and I used my DS Lite for several years until I got the 3DS, and it still works marvelously.

Well, open it first. If there's no issue with it then you don't have anything to worry about. If not, then sell it broken and buy a cheap one online. They really aren't expensive anymore as stated above.

The reason it should be repaired for free is because I read that Nintendo admittied it was a common fault and for a time it was free, now they are charging again? Just because I've had mines since 2008-09 that doesn't mean I should pay an obscene amount for repair.

How much does it cost to repair? I do not see how it could be an obscene price

I've decided to just get it repaired because I heard a story about why a ds lite hinge broke. The little brother of the person who owned the DS would get angry and shake it and the to screen would go back and forth. Then the hinge broke. If I were to buy another DS Lite, how long would it be before it happened again, I don't know how well the person took care of it who had it before me. he may have done the same thing.

DS Lites are now well under 50 quid. There's simply no reason to pay someone to fix yours. Buy a replacement.

If you go the DIY route, buy a replacement case (can be any color so you can change it to something like the Zelda ds) for about 10 bucks and replace the whole case.

Trying to fix it myself is a bad idea

Have you ever fixed a console yourself? It usually works fine, and is cheaper.

DS Lites are a big pain in the ass though. I know a few techies that repair various electronics all day long and won't go near a DS of any model. Too many things that can go wrong unless you know exactly what you're doing.

When it comes to fixing stuff, i'm not the most confident and I would end up completely breaking my DS Lite. I would rather pay for it to be fixed and who knows it may end up costing me £30 instead of the full £56.50
