I've been hearing around the gaming community that halo is one of the best fps on the xbox 360 and has a kick-ass story. I've never played a halo game so I'm not good on the story. My question is Which Halo game should I play first if I truly want to understand the story? Thank you. |

Halo: CE from what I hear has the best story. I've only ever played 3, ODST and a bit of Reach and of those, I liked the story of ODST best.

Does each game have an individual story? I thought all the games were one storyline? |

Only including the games and not the fiction, the story in timeline order is: Halo Wars (an rts game, very good for a console one) -> Halo: Reach -> Halo CE -> Halo 2 -> Halo 3 & ODST (ODST happens at the same time/just before 3) -> Halo 4 Master Chief's story is only explored in the main series (1,2,3 and soon, 4) and some of the books. By the way if you are going to start, I recommend you get the Anniversary Edition of Halo for the 360, it's a VERY good remake imo I strongly recommend going in release order and NOT timeline order, just as I would recommend someone playing MGS in release order.

As Omega said, I also recommend going with the order the games were released. Halo 1-3 is the main story. Halo Wars can be a little hard to understand if you dont know much about the story. Reach's story are the events that take place directly before Halo 1. I suggest playing ODST last because it has the least to offer. |

Also if you can play Halo ODST in co-op, and collect all of the data logs. Doing those two things really made me enjoy the game a lot more. |
