I'm using a Canon 600D. I've only done one video so far since I've got the camera yesterday. You can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FD2ZYw_wdD4 I was wondering if any of you had some advice on how to improve the video and sound quality and maybe some tips for my future videos. Please keep in mind that English is not my main language (French speaking Belgian here.) but I do my best to try and minimize it as much as I can. |

If you are going to create a shot with panning in it (side to side) I would recommend using a rubber band attached to your tripod handle. What this will do while you pull the rubber band which is looped around the hand it will create a smooth panning shot. |

Whenever you're doing unboxings or something where you're going to be showing a lot of things, leave auto focus on. All the things you were doing close ups on were blurry since the focus was set. Couldn't read any of the things I was trying to. |

Thanks AlexDemoted. I actually thought about that after doing it. The auto-focus on my DSLR seems to make some noise, though. I'll see what I can do about that. Ripleysdude: Thanks man. That's pretty smart ^^ But I think my videos are going to be more the static type. I still don't really want to show myself on camera, so... I'm still a bit nervous about that. Talking to the camera is easy, though. Guess I have some confidence thanks to the few Let's Play I did in French on the channel before. I just have to watch my accent, which was pretty weird at the beginning of the video. (But it became a lot better towards the end.) |

Auto-focus would probably do the trick, also if your camera is like mine (I have a Kodak Zi8, pretty basic...) but it has a macro zoom that I can click it over to. Maybe even if you faded to a zoomed in macro shot to pan through as you're talking about the game's history or whatever unboxing is present and then zoomed back out? I think you can track a pan or enable some kind of motion tracking on most video editing as well... But anyways yeah I dug it I've always liked unboxing videos, also don't sweat your accent at all man, only asshole trolls will give you any grief about that (AKA immature people not worth your concern, etc etc...) but yeah looks good so far. Being on camera is definitely weird though lol... I'm still trying to get over that myself... |

Thanks, DODOFRO And also thank you for subscribing ^^I tried to use the auto-focus but it's not that good. I have a Canon 600D with a Tamron 18-200mm lens. The lens makes a lot of noise while focusing and the mic from the DSLR picks it up. It's really bad. I'm thinking about doing something like what Johnny from the Happy Console Gamer does. I unbox the item in a wide shot and then fade to a closer look of it, correctly focused. It'll take a bit more time to shoot and edit but it should make the video a lot easier to watch, I think. I'm still learning about aperture, depth of field and all that stuff. DSLRs are pretty new to me as I've never shot a video or taken a photo of my life with something other than a crappy low-end camera. For the accent, I don't really force it. It's just that when I'm a bit nervous, it becomes really bad xD If you notice, my accent at the beginning and the end of the video are completely different. But that's not bad, given I never took an English class seriously. (I learned English by myself when I was little, playing video games And never paid any attention during English classes because I already knew what they were learning.)

Lighting is very impotent, so if you unbox larger things, keep that in mind. BTW, its a Canon 60D, not a 600D. |

That's a nice camera, I use the 60D myself. I say the most important thing first is to get a microphone. Then I would suggest to invest in a pair of light boxes. If you already have a tripod, then you're all set for YouTube. I think what you said about cutting to a close-up of the product and editing the footage together is the way to do it. If you're interested, here is the equipment I use to make my YouTube videos: My Video Equipment |

Rockmandash12: 600D is the European name of the T3i, I think. I'm from Belgium, so... Here it's marketed as the 600D. HelloComics: Thanks for the list ![]() It is indeed a very nice camera. I just had a desktop lamp on top of the filming area to get even light across where I was shooting. I set the white balance before shooting and off we go. ^^ For those videos where I'm close to the camera, the sound is pretty okay. I had the computer running behind me, so the background noise comes from that. The default mic picks up some sounds from outside, though. (You can hear a kid in one part of the video that was on the other side of the road.) Any idea on what kind of mic to get ? I plan on doing those kind of unboxings, maybe some videos where I'm in front of the camera and possibly some videos at conventions or if I ever go to Japan. I think each of these situations will call for a different type of mic, though... I'll be receiving a fairly large package from Yahoo Auctions Japan in a few weeks, so it'll be a good occasion to learn about lighting a wider scene

Start with what you are comfortable with and then as your confidence comes about you can evolve your videos |
