This week, we are joined by popular Youtuber, video game enthusiast and All Gen Gamers co-host John "Gamester81" Lester. In this awesome episode, we discuss the Youtube community and podcasting, the ups and downs of collecting, the video games that we have been enjoying and some great TV show recommendations. As a side note, this episode was surprisingly light on penis jokes. Ben and Andy are both seeking medical attention as a precaution.

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1Kn2sxPznQ&feature=g-u-u

The download links iTunes and the MP3 are in the video description.

Question of the Week

Do you consider yourself a collector? If so, what do you collect (it could be video games or anything else) and how do you manage your collection? Let us know.

Great episode guys but wouldn't have expected anything less with John on and a good discussion was held with the whole collecting side of things, which I will give my two cents on in a few moments. And thanks for the 3 or 4 shoutouts again in this episode including one from John.

First of all, Ben I am so happy you got around to Father Ted and I should have mentioned it to you before but kudos to the guy for pointing it out to you. Easily one of my favourite shows of all time and like Frasier, a show I can easily go back to again and again and never get tired of it. A Christmas tradtiion I have is that I watch the Christmas episode (A Christmassy Ted), which is my favourite episode once a year on Christmas Eve. It's a short lived series like Fawlty Towers that spans 25 episodes over 3 series and the lead actor Dermot Morgan died 24 hours after filming the final episode back in 1998. One of the writers (Graham Linehan) went on to do shows like Black Books and The IT Crowd.

This is a clip from said Christmas episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beN7FftWNCM and a documentary that was done last year or in 2010 featuring interviews with the writers and people who were on the show and visiting old filming locations including the Craggy Island Parochial house in Co.Clare. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x28Nm2TxVrM&feature=related Yep, I am a Father Ted fanatic! :P

I did mention Peep Show to you on Twitter a while back so I would like for you to check it out and see what your thoughts are.

Glad to see Andy is making good progress with Dark Souls and to me, Four Kings was the hardest boss for me but you might have a problem with the final boss, which I beat in one go thanks to a spell that made you invulnerable for a bit but this was before the patch so wouldn't work now. It is coming up to a year since the game came out and you still haven't finished it! :P

Glad to hear John has started up on The Walking Dead because fans of adventure games and great writing need to play that series. I have the PC version and played through the 3 episodes and the 3rd episode is quite emotional at spots so Ben, you're in for one hell of a ride.

In response to the question of the week, I don't really consider myself a hardcore collector per se although you may think differently since it seems I do buy quite a few games but I don't go out of my way to buy everything now including the crap for each system. I just get games that I find interesting to play whether it is physical or digital and will get around to maybe (thinking of going ahead with that no game suicide run next year to reduce the backlog down a great bit). I have been slowly getting into collecting video game soundtracks though and been mainly buying RPG ones since they tend to have the best music. One I want to get is Nier, which is one of my favourite video game soundtracks this generation easily. So you can say I am becoming a video game soundtrack collector. In terms of how I manage it, alphabetical order with my games collection sorted by system of course and same goes with the soundtracks. Makes it easier to find things of course.

As far as I'm aware, there are three Nier soundtracks.

The first being the OST from the game.

The second is a remix album, featuring tracks from the Nier DLC (Recycled Vessel I believe) - I wasn't a big fan, but others have loved this.

Third, a piano arrangement compilation.

But basically, you need to get all three to be the ULTAMITE POKEMANNS TRAINERR. Also, buy Nier.

Shame you had to sell your copy of Nier to pay for your cat's medical bills! Rascal certainly lives up to her name and she is going to end up putting you guys out of a house at this point! I have a copy of Nier and played through it once but might do it again soon to get the full story since I know it is quite different then. If you want, I can give you my copy of the game (promo copy, as I reviewed it for a site).

Pfffft. As IF I sold Nier for Rascal's medical bills.

I will go on record right now, to say: "I will sell a kidney, before I sell Nier, Streets of Rage 2, or Deadly Premonition."

:D

So you're a lyying rascal then since you said that on the podcast! :P In terms of Dark Souls, you still have a fair bit to go (Duke's Archives, Lost Izalith, Catacombs/Tomb of the Giants & Kiln of the first flame). All I can say is good luck!

I'm in Tomb of the Giants. Been queuing up for a summon to beat Nito for a few hours now. Made the hideous mistake of de-buffing my +4 lightning spear to make a divine spear... What a tit. The divine spear hits for like, 50, as opposed to 150 I was getting on my lightning spear. My logic is that I'd need a divine weapon to banish the skellies that Nito summons... But they overrun me instantly because my spear is a glorified toothpick.

To make matters worse, I have already beat Nito as a summon for someone else... But it doesn't unlock your progress in other peoples worlds. Seriously, fuck this game. ;D

Also, fuck Seath the Scaleless and this sodding guide. Said I only needa inflict 330 dmg on his rear tale to get a crystal greatsword. He killed me 10+ times trying to do this. Finally gave up, and stabbed him in the belly, he died so easily. No greatsword for me though. :(

I will beat this game.

I actually beat Nito in one go as well just to make your pain much worse because I created a divine weapon alongside my main to get rid of those enemies he summons. So you haven't done Lost Izalith yet? Boss you fight there is a right pain in the ass mainly becuase the camera is your worst enemy and you have a small part of the area to run around in. You'll know what I am talking about when you get there.

Great, now you got me wanting to go back to this game now. Maybe I will help Ben out to piss you off! ;)

Nope, beat duke's archive, crystal cave, gone down and beat pinwheel (who is insanely easy), just resting at the bonfire before Nito now. Just gunna farm moar souls, buy green titanite shards from the giant in Anor Londo, and get this shitty spear up to a high level. Think it's divine 4 or 5 right now, but it's seriously shitty.

We're kinda crapping up the thread here. Might create a new Dark Souls thread in general gaming. :D

Really enjoyable podcast and obviously great guest! :)

QOTM: I see collecting more when I buy games and just don't get rid of them. I feel I should hold onto everything I buy so that I can have them available anytime and each game will have a memory attached to it. Once I sold couple of my games and felt terrible...therefore may it not happen any more!

Awesome episode. I was sad when it was over.

Regarding the question: I consider myself more of a gamer than a collector. I grew up renting almost all of my games so I didn't amass a huge collection. On the other hand I got to play a huge amount of games over the years.

With that said, I still love watching other people's collections on YouTube. Sometimes I just want to get on eBay and buy everything. Then I take a deep breath and remember that even if I had a complete set for all consoles, I would still be watching other people's collections on YouTube. :)

Great episode guys. Why so short, no three hour club?

Question of the Week: I consider my self a collector of video games. Which I'm trying to get a complete U.S. Final Fantasy collection, only a few short. The way that i keep myself in check is that i have a rule and that is no credit cards, if i can't pay for it in cash i don't need it. Also i can count on one hand the amount of games that i have bought on Ebay because of me half the fun is the hunt for the games, with Ebay you don't get the same feeling as finding the game in the wild ( plus hate Ebay prices).

Hey Ben you need to got on Dark Souls because we all know come fall with all of the new releases you don't stand a chance. I have hope for Andy because he has been slowly chipping away at it.

Good episode guys, great discussions, and I definitely need to check out Collection Intervention.

I mainly just collect games that I'm interested in, and sell off any that I don't like. I also try to go after games from my childhood, and am trying to collect all of Rareware's games from SNES until now (excluding Kinect) since I grew up playing a lot of their games in the 90s. Bukkake Party.

I also collect Blu-Ray steelbook movies which kinda sucks as an American because you Canadians and Europeans get a lot more steelbooks than we do, and you get them for better movies like Jaws.

Awesome episode with Mr. Gamester81! And I'm flattered that he now finds me sexy!

As for the question: I am definitely a video game & music collector. Specifically I try to collect any game that I want to play for the 30+ consoles I have, but I don't really care if the game is complete in box or not. I have no interest in having a complete collection for a system, although I can appreciate the amount of work that goes into that.

As for music, I have always loved collecting vinyl records. There is nothing like dropping the needle on a turntable and kicking back on the couch with that huge album artwork in your hand.

Aw, what? Browland isn't starting with pokemon gold or silver? phooey. :P

I wouldn't really consider myself to be a collector, but I was to be a collector, it would probably be old PC stuff, I already have about 11 computers in my room from the 80486 to my new i5 system... and I hunger for more.... :P

My hopes are slim, I'm not going to lie. My schedule for both review games and new releases is going to be very busy this fall, and Dark Souls is not a game you can play casually. Will I still try? Of course, but I may end up having to concede that Andy is the manliest of the rascals at the end of the day :P

Haven't listened to the episode but I'd be glad to answer the question of the week!

I would consider myself a collector at this point. I collect Blu Rays, DVD sets (TV shows), games, & manga books. I only buy these items that I intend to watch, play, or read. If it's worth a good chunk of change and I don't intend to do those 3, then I'll still buy it and resell it if it's a good deal to fuel my collecting. If it doesn't meet any of those criteria, I just won't buy it. No point in having something I don't want just for the sake of having it lol.
