This week, we are joined by popular Youtuber, video game enthusiast and All Gen Gamers co-host John "Gamester81" Lester. In this awesome episode, we discuss the Youtube community and podcasting, the ups and downs of collecting, the video games that we have been enjoying and some great TV show recommendations. As a side note, this episode was surprisingly light on penis jokes. Ben and Andy are both seeking medical attention as a precaution.

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1Kn2sxPznQ&feature=g-u-u

The download links iTunes and the MP3 are in the video description.

Question of the Week

Do you consider yourself a collector? If so, what do you collect (it could be video games or anything else) and how do you manage your collection? Let us know.

I would consider myself a video game collector insofar as I have a lot of stuff that would be considered obsolete. I have no interest in complete collections & just look for the games that interest me. Loose carts don't bother me if they were originally just in cardboard anyway (NES, Atari etc.). I think its a lot of fun to be able to go out & get some of the stuff I wanted when I was a kid & I still enjoy those games as much now as I did then. I have 26 consoles counting handhelds & don't have a whole lot of space so most things are in storage tubs & I just get 1 or 2 consoles out at a time. I keep the controllers & cabling for each system in large freezer bags so it all stays fairly neat. Games are either on DVD racks or in storage tubs.

Yes i do consider my self a consider myself a collector. I collect video games, both retro and modern. I manage my collection by knowing what i want to do. One thing i dont do is just try to buy games new to make a large collection, that might work with some people but not me. I actually almost never my games new, since it is wasting money that could go for other games, if i was to buy a new $60 game i could go and buy 5-10 equally good games for the same price.
Also what i do is shop at garage sales and flea markets for my retro games, i have gotten amazing deals that way.
I choose what i want to collect to, you cant go and get everything, you have to have standards. For most systems(excluding the nes, snes, orginal gameboy and im debating the super famicom) i have to have it complete, and the orginal, no greatest hits. That relly helps to maintain collection size. And depending on the system depends the games i collector for it, i will collect and nes games i find (im up to 105) but for like the playstation's, and most any disc system i only keep games i enjoy and will play through and beat.
Also i keep everything on shelvs sorted by system in alphabetical order, helps me so i dont buy multipls of 1 game and can find everything... most of the time
hope i made sense

@QotW:

I am a collector in the sense that I do like to think that I've accumulated a library of games, but, relatively speaking, I am neither a collector or gamer compared to the YouTube community. I don't have the phenomenal collection some people here happen to of accumulated [and I've been hoarding games (ie. not discarding or selling) since I was in my early teens..]. I also have a decent amount of books, collect Pokemon cards and its memorabilia, which fuckin reminds me.. Ben, did you fuckin buy Pokemon White fuckin yet?... *cracks fuckin knuckles*

I don't necessarily have that "one thing" that i collect for per se, and I am not a hardcore collector (yet) of one type of entity. Rather, over the 20 years I've been alive, I have accumulated a multitude of collections of things that i can personalize with or enjoy that range in size. I have a fairly decent size video game collection for a number of platforms of which it's contents are only games that i like or love, and I have a shit load of DVDs and music CDs. I guess I have a fairly respectable coin collection as well. However I don't collect stuff just for the sake of an expanded overall collection. I'm all about quality over quantity. For that reason, I don't see myself purchasing a game, album, movie etc. that I know i dislike unless of course it has some sentimental or intrinsic value to me.

Yes I am a collector, and how I manage it is by keeping things on shelves and being able to find any given game quickly, right now I'm still sorting everything out in my new place, but once I'm done, I'll have all my games accessible, and my collection isn't massive by any standards but I do have a good amount of games. I collected Yu-Gi-Oh Cards, Pokemon Cards, Hot Wheels cars over the years as well, and I still have those somewhere.

I collect Da's & Dat's ;p

Besides video games, it's comics for me. I've always been into comics and most of my 'hunting in the wild' has leaned more towards funny books. I no longer keep up with current comics. I grew up Marvel and prefer the 616, but DC has some of the best one shots / limited series. Before I sold my iPad I downloaded the shit out of a lot of stuff. The Sword, Re-read Walking Dead, Stray Bullets, Invincible, so on. The only book I keep up with (which I'm 7-8 months behind now) is the Walking Dead. I'm glad Andy has seen the light because this is hands down the best monthly series I've ever read. It doesn't fuck around and pulls no punches. People who love the show should buy or download issues because it's far superior, much like Watchmen over the movie ;)

I also recommend The Sword. An amazing 24 issues mini series by the Luna Bros. I'm telling you, it's tits. If they ever made a movie and stuck to the source material, holy shit.

Anyway, thought I would throw that out there. I really don't buy anything anymore. If I stumble across some old stuff, sure, but I'm fine with what I've got. Like video games, quality over quantity, plus they take up space.

I have af ew collections Of course I collect video games. I keep my retro game in ABC order. My modern games are displayed on a shelf not in ABC order. I also collect comicbooks which I keep in both long a short boxes. I collect action figure also. I usually get 2 of each (one to hang on the wall for display and the other to open). Im a huge movie guy so my collection of DVD fill up my shelf quickly. I used to collect yugioh/pokemon cards alot and I probably would keep getting more if I had more people around who played. LOL I got a lot of collections so let stop here before I continue rabbling on. Great podcast guys.

I'm a collector of several things. All music/film/game related (maybe that's why I enjoy this podcast so much, you guys discuss all these things).

My biggest collection is my Blu-ray/DVD collection. I haven't counted how much I have at the moment, but I think it's probably one entire wall full of only movies PLUS loads of tv-series (maybe near 1500 to 2000??). Now I mainly collect blu-rays and if a series or certain film is not available on Blu-Ray then I sometimes buy it on DVD. This is my main passion when it comes to collecting.

I collect all sorts of movies. Every genre you can possibly think of (classic movies, arthouse, hollywood, foreign, horror, indie, sci-fi, fantasy, drama etc etc) . I have so many favorite directors that it's hard to keep up with all the releases. Plus cartoons/animation are a large part of my collection (Disney, Pixar, Warner Bros.,Ghibli en other anime). And like I said earlier I have many tv-series boxsets. Next to animation that's probably my main focus.

Then there's music. The biggest part of my cd collection are movie/tv score's. I collect lots of cd's from composers like: Bernard Herrmann (my biggest collection), Danny Elfman, John William, Michael Giacchino etc. Then come the gamemusic soundtracks, mainly from Japan. The biggest part of my vgm collection are Nintendo en Square Enix soundtracks (loads of Final Fantasy cd's). While most of my collection is instrumental and must be quite obscure (for most people) sometimes, my mainstream cd collection is REALLY mainstream. Most cd's are from very famous (pop) artist and it doesn't contain a lot of more obscure bands/artists. I guess there's some J-pop (Utada Hikaru) and Israeli and Spanish/Latin music in there that some may find a bit more obscure.

I also have quite the videogame collection. Ranging from original Game Boy, SNES etc etc to PS1, N64, PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, NDS/3DS. I mainly buy wat I want to play. Although nowadays you can get so much good deals on 360 and PS3 games that I also buy lots of games that I might not play for a while. My backlog is quite humongous. The thing is though....I barely have time to play games, and since I love Japanese RPG's the most (probably the main focus of my collection). It's quite a pity that I cannot always enjoy them to the fullest. For example I bought Final Fantasy XIII when it came out and I finally started playing it (and finishing it) a few months ago. LOL, I even have loads of PS2 RPG's lying around (like Rogue Galaxy and Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2, Shadow Hearts etc) then I need to start playing. LOL, I guss most people have this problem when they have a large collection of RPG's.

LOL, managing my collection? Well at the moment that's a disaster. My partner and I live in quite a small apartment. so I need to be quite resourceful to be able to manage these piles and piles of dvd/cd's etc. Once we buy a house, I'm gonna put up a game/movie room, where I'll finally be able to put everything in a proper place and I'll be able to find everything immediately (right now it's a disaster finding a particular movie LOL)

Collecting is fun, but I am not a crazy collector that HAS to have everything. Its more satisfying finding stuff in the wild. All my games are in alphabetical order. I am pretty OCD with that. I am also a music collector. CDs and Vinyl. Not as hardcore as I use to. I got tired of shelf-ers, so now I am pretty selective.

And I collect arcade machines.... ya.... I have a problem there....
