I'm considering checking out both genesis add ons and am interested in more information on what variants are available. Specifically...

Which is available for model 1 2 and 3 genesis

And is there a standalone unit for one or both. I feel like I heard Pete mention something like that on the podcast but can't remember for sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :kirbyhappy:

Sega Does What Nintendon't

The best setup is a model 1 HD graphics Genesis connected to the model 2 Sega CD with a 32X!

I don't like the CDX as much as the model 1 and 2 Sega CD because it suffers from compatibility issues with some games and it will not work with the 32X or at least not easily because its too big for the console and just dont fit right.

The model 2 Sega CD is known to be more reliable than the model 1.

The model 1 HD graphics Genesis don't have the TMSS (TradeMark Security System) and has better sound over the model 2.

this setup will allow you to play everything with 100% compatibility, plus you can remove the 32x and use the sound benefits of the model 1 Geneses on non 32x games. just make sure your 32x and Sega CD has all the cables needed for the model 1 as well as the extension bracket.

Please explain the specific setup for this, what cables are associated with he gen model 1? How does that connect to a model 2 cd/32x? I've got systems but am confused by cables and functionality between systems. Thanks!

The power base converter was not mentioned in previous thread. I am thinking model 1 genesis with power base converter AND 32X and a CD X for sega cd and/or Genesis titles. That leaves the smallest footprint in my gaming room to have room for other systems. Any additions to this setup would be appreciated! [luigidance]

Just so you know you will not be able to run the 32X and the Power Base Converter together.

The PBC is nothing but a pin connector that works by telling the Genesis / Mega Drive to enter VDP Mode 4 to play SMS games. Since the 32x don't connect to all the pins on the console (there not needed for 32x games) the PBC cant send the signal to enter VDP 4 mode to play SMS games.

I still stick by my first post about that setup being the best.

The CDX has some compatibility issues that stop it from being my first pick to play Sega CD games. Terminator CD and Jurassic Park are know to either not load at all or run very slow. The CDX is know to be very picky system and no two are the same. Just do a quick Google search about CDX compatibility issues and you will see what I mean. I know that my CDX will not play Mansion of Hidden Souls and some pack-in versions of Sonic CD. It has no issue of playing the retail long box version of Sonic CD. Some people have complained about Lunar not working correct on the CDX but I haven't had any issue with it.

The 32X came with both cables for the Model 1 and Model 2 Genesis and the model 2 CD came with a extension bracket that allows the model 1 to hook to the model 2.
