I recently picked up Devil Summoner w/ strategy guide on the PS2 on a good deal at $25. I'm not really in the mood to start an RPG at the moment so I was looking for opinions on it on whether or not I should keep it. I'm a huge fan of Persona 4, how does it compare to the Persona series? The setting looks crazy different, almost gothic style. I am also really curious on what Jack Frost does in this game as I've never played a game with him in it lol

That's a great price actually (Devil Summoner usually goes for 50-70 bucks alone.) But it's a good action RPG but, it's a bit rough around the edges, but overall it's a fun game.

In regards to Persona, I haven't gotten to fair to experience a lot of it but, it's a different feel (but an overall good feel.)

You got a really good price on the game and the guide.

The gameplay is actually a action rpg mixed with elements of pokemon. You fight enemies and kill them by slashing and shooting away. If you want though you can also capture them with capsules and use them on your team. When a demon is on your team it joins you in battle and helps fight enemies and such. Overall the setting and story is really cool, but the game doesn't warrant the price it is going for. For 25$ though it is a really good game and the sequel is suppose to be big improvement on the formula overall.

Jack frost is just a demon you can catch and use in your team.

You can also play as the demons outside of the battle to solve puzzles and such.

I hope this helped you [luigidance]

Hey guys,

I appreciate the replies. An action RPG mixed with puzzles sounds pretty fun. I'm not a huge fan of Pokemon as of late, however if it's simplistic like the old pokemon or like Persona 4, I can definitely get into it.

The cheapest price I see for a complete copy on Amazon is $80, I have to say that I'm definitely glad that I got a deal on it lol. It sounds right up my alley, I'm going to see if I can give it a shot sometime soon.

Devil Summoner is definitely my least favorite of the PS2 Shin Megami Tensei games. I prefer the first game over the second game though as the gameplay changes were a little bit more frustrating.

But overall both are interesting Action RPG attempts by Atlus who normally go with turn-based RPGs. I would recommend buying Digital Devil Saga 1/2 and the Persona games over these two....

I've heard good things about the Digital Devil Saga series. I've always thought about picking them up if I found them but so far I haven't had an opportunity to get a good deal on them. I've already tried Persona 3 which I did not like much. I really felt that it was needed to control all of the party members and really did not like controlling only the main character in battles. I know they fixed it in the PSP release but I'm also not a fan of the PSP lol.

Been after this game for ages but the European prices have become crazy, i was bidding on one last week that went for 40+ pounds (65 dollars+). Wish i bought it when it was still affordable, I have good luck at carboots so hopefully I can grab one on the cheap.

Digital Devil Saga is fantastic with a great storyline, music and some really intense boss battles. If you haven't played Nocturne (Lucifer's Call) yet i'd go for that because personally it's my favourite SMT game on PS2 (other than the Persona games). it's so much fun to create a party full of demons to fight alongside you.

Reasonably priced copies of this game have been listed on ebay and Amazon.

Wow, it's crazy how fast those sold. He sold 40ish before that big order went through in one day.

Edit: He listed another batch of them. Check out this link: Turns out this game is actually getting a reprint for the newest game that's releasing. Playcanada (the same company who did all the Ni No Kuni Wizard edition stuff) just sold their stock early for $10 higher than the standard price in an effort to blow them out before the news leaked. Not surprised coming from them.

Well from what I can tell there are only 1116 copies of the reprint. Given that one guy bought 100 last night I don't think that these will last long. Plus with the reduced shipping fees I actually saved money. $36 total, the reprints will be selling for $30 plus shipping so overall I think I got a good deal.

Is there only 1116 reprints? I'm finding so little information online, I only read about it on another forum. Atlus didn't make any announcement it seems.

Also, why did PlayCanada get most of them then? They've listed over 500. I hope they aren't doing another Ni No Kuni incident :l

This game is getting reprinted. Other sites have preorders up for $29.99. PlayCanada is a horrible reseller. He has been known to sell things before the release date in order to capitalize on sells. There were more copies left, but he raised the price.

Subtotal US $29.99
AB Sales tax US $1.80
Shipping and handling US $5.99
Total US $37.78

I bought it from playcanada on tuesday and got shipping confirmation 6 hours later. I am getting an original and not the reprint. I don't understand where the hate is coming from.
