Should I use an emulator to review a NeoGeo Pocket game?

I'm working on a NGP review and in order to get game footage, I have to set up a camera in front of the NGP with a lamp on top due to no back light and I have to somehow make it so that the lamp does not overshine the screen and keep my reflection from appearing. This is a real pain. I'm tempted to use an emulator but I don't feel right using one.

Now I'm not one of those people against emulators, it's just that I have the game system and game and reviews using the original hardware are better than emulated ones, or at least I think so. I also feel that emulated reviews are a cop out for people who don't own the game. If you own the original game, then chances are you are invested in the review, while those who don't own the game are not and to me that's a sign that the review is going to be bad.

On the other hand, the game will look nicer if I use an emulator because the footage I'm taking has the wrong kind of lighting. It's dark on the bottom and bright on top.

So I'm conflicted. What do you guys think of using emulators to review games?

You could always do a mix. Take some shots of the original hardware at first and then overlay the emulator footage on the screen after showing some of it in its original state. Then you get a feel for both the original way it's presented but then also get to actually see what's happening on video via the emulator.

I Like Games.

If it's anything like trying to record a Wonder Swan color game offscreen, go for it! Recording my review for Rhyme Rider Kerorican, it was a nightmare trying to record that.

I'd go with the emulator, the NGP screen is way to dark to get a decent recording. You'll end up picking up more reflection than actual gameplay if you just record the screen. Sometimes for the sake of a review and getting decent quality footage its better just to use an emulator, i hate using them to capture Master System games but if it means better quality then im willing to do it...even if the controls feel wierd as hell.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I think I finally found a method to record NGP games. I took some footage of the game by covering it with a box with a small hole on top and put a lamp above it. I think it came out great so I made this test video. Would this be acceptable?
