Going against typical Rad Rascal fashion, Ben and Andy go solo in episode 32 and arrive totally unprepared. No outline, no topic and no guest. However, they quickly find their groove and have a riotously good time as always. Topics covered include our biggest disappointments in gaming (and media in general), which in turn led to many "sad panda" moments, as well as the usual games and TV shows that we have been enjoying. All in all, 'twas a fine episode that we hope you'll enjoy. As always, feedback is welcome...flaming us for our choice of disappointing games is encouraged ![]() Here's the linky-link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTvP5lU29Kc&feature=g-u-u As always, the iTunes and MP3 links are posted in the video description. Question of the Week: What have been some of your biggest disappointments in gaming? By that, we mean what games did you have high hopes for, only to be sorely disappointed. Share your pain with us in the thread below. |

I'm listening to the episode now and I have something to say about Brawl... It is quite possibly my favorite game of all time. I've clocked in over 400 hours with my brother and it is always great fun. No matter what anyone says, for me it captures the same awesome competitive feeling the N64 version and Melee had, plus a far greater roster. Sure, tripping was an absolutely idiotic addition, but I'd say the tons of other content you might have overlooked greatly out-weighs that negative. The thing that is so magical about Brawl is that no matter who you're playing with and where you take the game, everyone will enjoy it with how many hectic things are happening at once. You're probably thinking now that Melee would just be a better option though. I disagree. With bigger groups- friends and family especially- the addition of the smash ball makes so much of a difference with increasing the tension and excitement. For my brother and I, Brawl is always the one default multiplayer game when we look at our wall of games and want to play something. It's amazing that a game is able to have such a monopoly of sorts, even for just one family. Not only that, but the single player experience is the best one in the series and a definite step in the right direction with Subspace Emmissary. Also, I was just wondering something. Since Smash Bros. in general is so multiplayer-dominant, I was wondering how you "antisocial assholes" are able to weigh the pros and cons The games overall drop in value drastically when you're usually playing by yourself, so this seemed weird to me as well.Brawl was also the only game I've ever gotten at the midnight launch, I believe. The night we got it, my brother and I played through the entire Subspace Emmissary and unlocked every character but two. Ever since, over four years later, the game has still maintained immense replay value and enjoyment. There's my case. |

The new SSX game that was released a year ago was very disappointing. I absolutely love SSX Tricky & SSX 3 to death and they are probably in my Top 10 games of all time. So when I read that they were going to go back to what made them great for this console generation, I was ecstatic. However, after putting in a couple days into the game...I realized they missed what made those classic games so great: Fantastic level design and wacky yet likable characters. The new game is full of cheap deaths, uninspired tracks and bland characters. Where is Zoe, Psymon, Luther or Broderick voiced by great actors? I really wanted to give the game a chance, and fall in love with the series again... but the new SSX was ultimately a huge disappointment. Edited by MetalJesus, Nov 12 2012, 12:46 AM.

Awesome topic guys and might actually steal it for the next United Gamedom Podcast! I am one of those people who loved Castlevania: Lords of Shadow whether or not it was a Castlevania game but it is because I am a fan of these kind of games! I thought the variety of the locales was great because not all the Castlevania games were set in the castle entirely! I am not really a huge fan of Fallout 3 either but I thought it would be like Oblivion since I put so many hours into it but not really! Good lord Ben you paid full retail for Superman 64! Must be one of the worst blind purchases you ever done! Andy, it did come out here in May 1999! Will get you a copy for Christmas! ![]() Anyway here is a list of games I felt disappointed by in no particular order: Yoshi's Story - I love Yoshi's Island on the SNES and I was anticipating this game! I got it for my birthday in 1998 and felt bad for my parents wasting £50 on it since it was a game that was very easy and you can finish in about an hour or less because of the way it was structured! Sure you can go try out different stages when playing through it again but none of the brilliance of Yoshi's Island was there. Zelda: Skyward Sword - I am one of the few it seems that loves Twilight Princess and I thought this could have been as good as it, if not better! What I got is a game where the controls don't always work and you explore what I feel is a bland and lifeless world! I could change my mind if I go back to it but don't feel up to it! GTA IV: I was so stoked especially with it coming out on my birthday in 2008! In the end I got a game that had boring mission variety, boring activities and a world, which looked nice but didn't have the charm of San Andreas or Vice City before! Saints Row 2, which came out later that year was the more enjoyable game! Bioshock: Maybe I had too much hype for this but I felt disappointed overall with the game! I enjoyed it but not as much as I thought! I believed we were going to get some sort of open-world, non-linear game before it came out but wasn't the case! The story was interesting but took too long to get going! Maybe because I got the twist spoiled for me dampened it a little! Do love the world of Rapture though! Castlevania: Lament of Innocence - I am a big Castlevania fan and I was playing the great GBA and DS games around the time this came out and I thought it would be a 3D version of them! It kind of was to an extent but not as fully as I thought it would be! Plus, I died for the first time in the game on the final area! I like the game but not as much I thought. First time I'm answering a question first I'll give honorable mentions for games: Patapon, Legend of Zelda skyward sword, Pokemon ruby sapphire emerald, Tekken 4 and Dragon ball Z budokai tenkaichi now for the big one I don't necessarily hate those games I mention (beside patapon) and the big one but I just find them disappointing for me Legend of heroes Trails in the sky- A lot of people said that it's an amazing game but honestly the thing I really like about the game was the translation it's perfect but everything else felt nothing special the was great not amazing and yes even the battle music I didn't find to be amazing the characters are okay and everything else about the game felt for me as okay and I hate the battle system I don't mind something a little different from the traditional turn base battle system but this was a mess for me and besides Dragon Quest IX this was the game that made want to take break from turn base RPG'S. As far as movies there's Avatar I remember when it came out my friends were raving about how the 3D is amazing and all that I didn't saw in the theater's so I bought it on DVD and I regret it sins then and I want to get of that copy this movie for was basically a retelling of Pocahontas but in a sci-fi setting with blue elf alien people thing instead of Indian and it's very long how I despise this movie I will watch the sequel but only for the 3D sins people said the 3D was amazing and that's the only reason for me to watch it even if I despise 3D especially in movies. another great episode guys! Ive currently got some time off from work and am working through the backlog of episodes, thanks for keeping me entertained.......and grossed out. QOTW Answer- The original Metal Gear Solid - I went into it expecting to be sucked right into the gameplay but it just rubbed me up the wrong way . I tried multiple times to get past the first few areas but no joy I just got bored. James- |

The most disappointing game I've had so far has probably been Pokemon DX Gale of Darkness. at first when I saw commercials for this, I was like, Yes! a new pokemon game for the consoles with an open world and wild pokemon to catch and stuff! but no, it was very closed off, just a few wild pokemon to battle, if you could even call them wild, and tons of double battles. But it was a good game still and at least I can play it for what it is. Its not near as bad as other's NES days disappointments, but its mine. |

Battlefield 3 I can't put my finger on it, but I just hate that game. Outside of the vehicles it just feels like it's trying to be like Call of Duty's overrated shit dick multiplayer that I absolutely despise. Glass bottom boat. Real shame that it didn't click with me since that was by far my most anticipated game last year, and I was a huge fan of Battlefield 2 (PC & 360), 1942-1943, and Bad Company 2 sinking hundreds of hours into those games. Lair on PS3...that was the game that made me pull the trigger on getting a PS3 in 2007... Keep in mind PS3 was $600 dollars in 2007, and Blu-Ray's were typically $35-40 dollars back then...

hey guys great episode again, when it comes to disappointments i feel kids now are lot luckier than us older guys were when we were they're age. i mean there is so much gameplay available now of upcoming games and reviews online that you can pretty much see what your getting before you buy. back in my day i think we had perhaps 1 magazine, gamesmaster, and that didnt come out until mega drive/ snes era. so when we were allowed a game it was a big gamble as you wasnt getting another game untill xmas. if we was disappointed with the game you still played the shit out of it because thats all you had. some games spring to mind that "let me down" were eswat on the master system i remember having that for my 10th birthday i think and it costing £40, after about 20 mins i felt done, but i had to push on as wasnt getting another game for months and months. toki on the mega drive was also a let down. i loved the arcade version and thought the mega drive game would be exactly the same, i was wrong! i had to buy the game off my mate and i think it cost me my dinner money for 2 weeks, no wonder he was laughing as he handed it over. when it comes to current gen i feel halo 4 has not lived up to the hype. i read loads of reviews before getting it, but least i get to trade it in for hitman when i complete it. its not a bad game i just feel, for me, its a 7.5/10 and not the 9/10 or 10/10 i read about. also uncharted 3 i was disappointed with. after playing uncharted 2 i couldnt wait to play number 3, shame it didnt grab me like 2 did. |

I actually love Battlefield 3, and i cant really go back to Bad Co 2 because of it. Bad Co 2 just has servers full of campers that know every spot on the (now rather small) maps. I cant leave my base half of the time without getting taken out with a headshot these days. Red Dead Redemption was a massive one for me. It was great for the first two days, i was running around spending hours hunting animals for feathers and furs so i could harvest cash and buy lots of things. Problem is, there isn't really anything to buy. There is the odd gun when it is unlocked and the odd bit of property but thats it. Your health regenerates so i never found myself needing to buy any, stamina regenerates really quickly so there is no need to buy that either. Its a shame too because i was really enjoying hunting birds and wild cats whilst on horseback. Its a beatiful game with a great story but it just isn't as in-depth as i thought it would be. Dead Space was something i was really excited for, Survival horror was taking a turn for the worst and it been a long time since a game had really shaken me to my core. I quickly realised that this wasnt survival horror and was more akin to Resident evil 4 than anything else. Its not a bad game, but the jump scares lose thier effects after a while and halfway through the game you have lost any notion of fear. I got bored bored pumping round after round of ammo into the same enemies again and again. Soviet/Nuclear Strike because the first 3 on the Megadrive were incredible, these 2 were just ugly glitchy messes. Golden Axe 3 This game is fucking terrible! I get that they wanted to change it from the first 2, but all they did was build a horrible clunky engine that gave you no freedom whatsoever. Golden Axe 2 is almost up there with Streets of Rage II in my opinion and puts all of Konami's over-rated 2 button beat-em up's to shame. Golden Axe 3 is more comparable to a rectal abscess that needs to be drained every 5mins. |

I feel the exact opposite. In Bad Company 2 you can completely destroy where people camp in most situations assuming it's inside of a building, which in many cases it is. Keep in mind though I mostly played it on 360, and unless my team is painfully bad as a whole then I don't get spawnkilled often. Yeah definitely agree with you evo about Uncharted 3. I relly dont buy many games new mainly since i dont have the money to spend $60 on a game that will be worth $20 in a month, so i dont have that many sob stories of getting relly excited for a game only to be disapointed but i do have one. Before i was a "hard-core" gamer i didnt play that many games but one game i was excited for was epic mickey since i was a big oswald the rabbit fan and to see him in a game was great. Once i got the game brand new though at first i thougth it was great but then the smoke and mirrors cleared and i saw it was a bad 3d platforming game with a terrible cammera and i still havent beaten it since. Since i dont buy games new thought i can see how games turn out, what others think of them and if its worth getting in the furture when its cheaper and getting to see weather the game is a great tales of vesperia or something to use as a paper weight like god hand. |

The biggest disappointment gaming wise for me was TNA Impact on the 360. I did a review on it where I went into detail but I will sum it up here Outside of great visuals and sound, the commentary was respective and annoying, the lack of match types, create a wrestler options, arenas and wrestlers, on top of a dead online community within months of the games release made it a sub par game with the TNA Licence that could have been an amazing game but fell short, very very short (insert dick joke here) of being worth the $60 price tag, it's barely worth 10 bucks now |

Question of the week: Would have to be mortal kombat for the snes. I played it in an arcade during a trip up to Florida and fell in love. We were so excited to pick up the home console version my brother picked me up from school and drove me to zellers. We got home and everyone crowded around the tv only to be disappointed by the lack of gore. Everyone left within 5 minutes. I tried to the like the game but it didn't compare to the Genesis version at all. |

Biggest disappointment? Probably Oblivion. I love Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Skyrim. Yet I just couldn't get into Oblivion at all. I tried three times. It just felt so bland and generic, and I was hoping for something magical. Dragon Age is another one. I was so pumped up to buy it and I'd heard so many good things about Bioware RPGs, and Dragon Age was my first. I paid $7 for it and felt ripped off. Terrible combat, ugly graphics, crap story. I just, ugh. And lastly Mario Kart Wii. No I'm not a 64 fanboy (in fact, I don't care for 64 anymore, it aged horribly). Double Dash!! was so good, it felt fast paced and chaotic (in a good way). My friend gave me his copy of Mario Kart Wii, and I tried to play with each control scheme. I think it's an unplayable mess. The characters feel ridiculously heavy, drifting isn't smooth at all. They brought back the stupid hop mechanic. They basically took everything good out of Double Dash!! and all the crap from MK64 and made a shitacular game. Also, here is my ninja penguin moment: schloopy Please don't look it up before hand ![]() I guarantee you will lol |
