You might know Ben and Andy as being fairly upbeat and jovial, but they take a slight detour into negative territory in this episode. Yep, it's time to talk about our pet peeves, things that annoy us, get under our skin and outright piss us off. Gaming and life in general, it's all fair game. We get a bit political and a little dark, but we naturally bring it around and give you the gaming geekery and cheeky humour you'd come to expect. Awesome episode guys. My biggest pet peeve is more of a fault on my part, and that is I have almost no patience for others. If I tell someone how to do something and they don't get it right the first couple of times I can get very frustrated. But a gaming related pet peeve is escort missions. Why? I mean really why do developers continue to put these in games? They are usually frustrating or boring and there's a general consensus that they suck. And as for the Titanic bitch, yay I suppose. Don't lie we all paused on that scene for a bit. I remember my cousins and I got a hold of our grandmothers VHS copy and stared in awe at those beautiful boobies for quite awhile. Ben, have you played Bayonetta yet? If not, I am basically challenging you to play that game and finish it after your little secret gents challenge is over and done with because it is done it is just as awesome as Vanquish. Platinum have no less than 3 games coming out next year here with Metal Gear Rising, Anarchy Reigns and Wonderful 101 so definitely looking forward to those. Man you guys did go on for quite a while talking about your pet peeves but really did enjoy the discussion especially when you pretty much ripped Jack Thompson to shreds. I first heard about him from the podcast The Hotspot (which was the 1st podcast I ever listened to back in 06) and just sounded like a complete a-hole! Seems that Andy, Ben and I share some pet peeves from the discussion and will give a little quip or two on them and a few others. Courtesy - I am very much like Andy in that it really annoys me when I open a door for someone or to let them go first etc only to get not so much as a thank you in return. Whenever people show me courtesy, I always thank them in return. Unfortunately, it seems people in Northern Ireland for the most part don't know proper manners. Customers not putting back things where they belong in a store: Seeing as I work in a supermarket, this one gets on my nerves! It just shows how lazy some people are when they leave a tin of soup in the booze section for example! Factual mistakes - We all make factual mistakes but it just somewhat irks me for some stupid reason whenever I listen to a podcast and hear someone make a factual mistake whether it is a release date for a game or something along those lines. Guess I am being a bit of a hypocrite on that one since I am guilty of the same thing. PS3's mandatory installs - Yeah, the updates are annoying but it seems that a majority of the games I buy or try out on the PS3 have a mandatory install therefore have to waste several gigs of my hard drive on that data just so it can run right. It is the main reason why I get my games on the 360 apart from the exclusives of course. Long loading times - There have been a few games this generation that are quite guilty of this pet peeve. One example is Splatterhouse in that every time you died, you had to watch the same stupid loading screen again for what seemed like forever (probably around 30-45 seconds in reality) Campers/spawn campers - I hate people who do nothing but camp in online multiplayer in first-person shooters. Worse are ones that camp near your spawn point where you get killed as soon as you spawn and can do nothing about it. Pisses me off! Fanboys: I think all you said on the episode about them is why I can't stand them! Also, sub-section of that in a way are the people who blow their top over review scores and the like and go on a tirade with insults, death threats and the like! As for Kate Winslet, yay! I do find her quite attractive and it seems that she has got better with age. And FYI, Titantic isn't the only film where you get to see her nude now. Edited by Darro, Dec 22 2012, 05:16 AM.

XBOX 360? Greatest console ever? Apart from Halo, Forza, and Gears what goes the 360 does that PS3 doesn't? Man 360 is bottom tier for sure lololol In my opinion, Fallout3 is far more glitchy than New Vegas. I put over 1,000 hours into New Vegas and had ZERO Game Breaking bugs. The problem is you relied on auto save. Bethesda's auto save system is the problem with that game. I kid, I kid.  I am a Yakuza fanboy after all.Reasons I love my 360 - Pad. Online with buddies. Huge library of games. Demos for every XBLA title But yeah, nowt wrong with PS3, SNES, etc. MegaDrive is a close second. Cos it's BOSS. |

Haven't listened yet, but I can answer your question. Pet peeves! All kinds. First up, hackneyed business/office clichés: “At the end of the day….” “Going forward…” The word “utilize” when “use” would suffice (which is always, incidentally). “Think outside the box” “On the same page” Some assorted grammar/spelling/diction items that really frost my ass: “across” pronounced “acrosst” “height” pronounced “heigth” “drown” (present tense) pronounced “drownd” “I was suppose to get a raise” Would of, could of, should of “The suspect was traveling at a high rate of speed down the interstate…” “That point you bring up begs the question: what do we do now?” (I think 10 people on earth know how to use this phrase properly) Use of commas rather than periods to form an ellipsis,,,it’s just so irritating. “I want to go over to your guyses house.” “I could care less” (makes no sense whatsoever in the typical context) Et Cetera pronounced Ek Cetera Lame “come backs” that might have seemed witty the first time they were ever used, but now are just weak: - When somebody does or says something weird: “Are you on crack?”, “What drugs have you been smoking?”, etc. - When you say something tastes like horse shit (for example): “How do you know what horse shit tastes like? Har har har!” - When you have a hobby other than watching TV all day: “You have way too much free time on your hands!” - When you spill a beer: “Hey! hey guys great episode again, q.o.t.w - loads of things piss me off, but 2 of the main things are people who dont say say thank you when you give way to them in the car, also pricks that park in parent and toddler spaces in super markets when they got no kids with them that really fucks me off. when it comes to gaming the biggest things would be updates and day one patches, i mean dont release the game if it aint right!!!! it does my head in when i turn on the ps3 and guess what.... system fucking update. shit i feel pissed off writing this reply lol anyway kate winslet hell yeah!!! |

Pet Peeves Unskippable Tutorials - Most games now have some kind of tutorial at the begging to tell you what button does what which is fine but I'd rather have the option to skip it and figure out the controls as I play. Lazy Ports - I can't stand it when developers port a game to another console and do it halfassed. I played Grandia 2 on Dreamcast at a friends house and loved it so when t got released on PS2 I bought it, after a few hours in the frame rate dropped to a crawl and made the game unplayable to me. Kate Winslet - Yay or nay? Which one means yes? |

That sounds awesome honestly lol I don't ever go bowling but I can see how that would get annoying if someone did it frequently. I don't have too many pet peeves but one thing I can't stand is when someone thinks they know more than you. It's like, ok, I've only been doing this for many years but don't worry about it. I obviously don't know what I'm doing at all. Thanks for telling me how to do my job because I'm obviously a clueless fuckin monkey that just scratches himself all day for the fun of it. The Last Guardian will never be released. Therefore the 360 is ten times better than the PS3. Serious answer: I really like the PS3, Yakuza, the HD remakes, the PSN has some lovely artsy titles. I just *prefer* the 360. |

Pet peeves? I have a ton, that's if I can remember them. The Wii U not even up to spec with 7 year old consoles. This is ridiculous, if you compare it to the Wii. The Wii was more powerful than the GCN and xbox, the consoles from the generation before it. so if the Wii U is technically inferior to the xbox 360, then its a far less jump from the Wii to the Wii U than we realize. Considering how consoles today are basically turning into PCs, I'm gonna look at it from a PC perspective. There is a big difference how a computer performs when you go from ~$300 to ~$600. Its like the difference of having integrated AMD graphics to a dedicated video card, and thats a big difference. I want to see consoles get a bit more expensive, with more impressive hardware. but that's not all, to pull something like that off, they have to make the launch lineup GOOOD, with games that you cannot miss and that you cannot get on any other platform. That console would have my respect for having balls and being awesome. Too expensive? maybe people should save their money more instead of paying for it in one paycheck? (Maybe I should stick to PC gaming >.> ) QuickTime events for obvious reasons. I was playing Crysis 2 earlier, which is an awesome game, and there was not one QuickTime event at all.... that is until about half way through the game. It threw me a curve ball and was like "OH Press E right here or you die" right in the middle of what I suspected to be a cutscene and I died. Fuck that. People who don't put a new roll of toilet paper on the holder when they run out, instead they stick it on the counter. Its so annoying when your done taking a giant dump to see that you gotta put the roll in the holder or go and get more toilet paper out in a closet or something. Relentless ads in a paid for service (Yes, I'm looking at you, 360). I'm pretty sure that if someone signed up for xbox live, they will know how to go into the store and pay for something, or there should be instructions to do it. Its like if you turn on your computer and there are ad icons on your desktop, or if you turn on your PS3 and there are random ads all over the xmb. Using a tablet interface on a desktop (I'm looking at you windows 8). I don't think I need to explain this. Laptops from HP. they run hotter than the sun and will die within 2 years. don't get them. "Only 90s kids" bullshit. What has it already been 70 years since it was a nineteen ninety anything? good fucking grief, your under 40. shut the fuck up. I could go on, but I'm gonna stop there. You guys will have enough to read. Good episode BTW

Kate Winslet is a "yay" for me, had she been on my titanic you know she would have gone down on it too. My pet peevs in gaming are: Unskippable Cutscenes - Who the hell makes these? Checkpoints Before Cutscenes - I dont need to watch the same scene 5 times just cause im shit at the game! Nintendo Fanboys - I totally agree with Andy, they make me dislike the company whith thier ridiculous claims, opinions and usual lack of knowledge of any other gaming platforms. Every other fanboy - This goes for myself too, even my own reflection makes me sick. Console Updates - Why cant i do anything else while these things install? Developers churning out crap game after game out of a dead franchise rather than making new IP's or letting people with more passion and insight into thier classic franchises. - *Insert anything sega seems to do these days*  360 and PS3 rants and fights - They are nearly the same goddamn machine, there arent the glaring differences like there were in the 8-32bit era's. One buys companies to make exclusives and the other just has a more accessible and intuitive interface. If you really wanted the best gaming platform around you would have saved your pennies and bought a bloody PC already, so stop the squawbbling! General pet peeves are: Lack of manners - Holding open doors and saying things like "thank you" and "please" really arent all that hard to do, i am generally quite a bitter man but if i can manage it then so can everyone else! Dickheads with clipboards that think i have time to stand on the street and listen to how i need to give them my money - Im sorry but im pretty poor and have very little time, i put my pennies in the charity boxes so i feel i've already done my part. The lack of mayo in store bought sandwiches these days - Why? Where's my mayo bitch?! People spending too much money on pints of piss like Carling and Carlsberg when they could be ordering a nice tasty ale which is higher in alchohol content and uaually a lot cheaper - It makes no sense to me, we could all be having a nice wee chat about a very well defined ale thats brimming with character, instead most pub go-ers opt for the pint of piss. Its sad. No Hoverboards - What more can i say? Sorry guys, best console is either the Master System, Megadrive or the PS1. |

Mine is the unnecessary need for gaming companies to show me previews/trailers for games that release years down the road... they are just setting games up for failure due to years of hype building up... sure you get excitement for these big expos but is it really worth it in the long run? I myself got caught up in the hype of the last guardian for years now... Ifinally got to the point this year where I made up my mind that if I didn't see anything at TGS 2012 I would give up hope that it would ever release... I hope I'm wrong but ill believe its coming whenever it actually releases... another great example of this is Watch Dogs shown at e3 this year. Why are Yu showing me something that doesn't release untilled 2014!!!??? |

My pet peeves? People who think modern Sonic games are garbage, yet praise the modern Mario games. Sonic Colors is a significantly better game than Mario Galaxy 2. Morons. Idiots. NES/SNES Fanboys PS1/PS2 Fanboys PS3 Trollers People who don't understand how console generations work. People who don't include Dreamcast in Gen VI. People who don't call the Wii U Gen VIII (it is, along with vita and 3ds). Goldeneye 64 fanboys (Nightfire and 007 Wii are much better) People who dislike Half-Life and Shenmue People who bitch about the people who bitch about the new DMC Fanboys who think modern gaming sucks. People who misspell things frequently. People who speak poorly. Emo culture People who like nu-metal/butt rock/ and fake kiddy metal (ala Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine) People who can't tell the difference between SD and HD Hundreds upon hundreds of others. Good episode guys. Ben if you do end up playing some Nier make sure to at least play through the new game + at least one time. It's about a 15 hour game, and the new game + only makes you play through the last 4 hours. Mexican 5 star. It expands the dialogue greatly, and made me appreciate the game a lot more. About guns... Spoiler: click to toggle Pet peeves: Slow drivers who get into the fast lane on the freeway. FUCK YOU CUNTS WHO DO THAT. The speed limit near me is 70mph, and usually people in the fast lane do about 75-85mph but you always have some douche dick who decides to get into that lane and do 50mph. Hate those people, wish the cops would ticket people who don't even do the fucking speed limit on freeways since the entire point is to drive fast. In gaming: Poor pacing in games; Assassins Creed 3 is a shining example of this. Gamestop and Amazon stickers on games are a complete pain in the ass. Ads on the Xbox Live dashboard when I'm paying for the service already. Elitism in gaming which I've been seeing more so from PC gamers lately. Day 1 DLC, Online Pass, and just any DLC that would have progressed the story more so. Alaskan Snow Dragon. Examples: FFXIII-2's ending being in DLC, and according to GiantBomb the Leviathon DLC made the ending to ME3 make a lot more sense. :/ Oh and I'd totally motorboat Kate winslet, so yay from me. When it comes to pet peves in gaming my biggest one is ignorance. I can not stand people who talk like they know what they are talking about but have no clue, saying that one systems is terrible because of some hardware thing that dosnt even exist and they heard for one guy who heard from his cosins friends dog's sister. Also people who are ignorant, try to pass it off as if they no everything and but in on conversations, such as at game stores and gaming events i have had people walk up and are like "did you know that ness was orginally in the earthbound nes game that never came to america" (which is wrong the character in the nes earthbond was ninten), buy yah, idiots. Also the idea of paying $60 for a game that will be half that in 3 weeks, its something i cant justify doing that i used to get mad at friends for doing. I see the sence in it now but its still something i wouldnt do. Shameless plug: Gentlemens Challenge 5 |
