Well, the PlayStation 2 has finally ceased production (Jan 4, 2013), marking the end of the console's 12.5 year life span. I was too young to remember the launch, I was 4 when it was launched in Japan. Nonetheless I still have many fond memories of the system, too many good games to list. So, what are some of your favourite games/memories of the mighty PS2? |

I sure can. Multiplats are better are other systems. And overall, very few games I consider worth owning. |

In my eyes its an incredible system. Tons of RPGs and Platformers on this system that I think are definitely worth owning. Ape Escape 2 is an absolute gem in my eyes. I loved the hell out of that game. Though it had the least power of the three consoles of its generation, so naturally the multiplats will be better on gamecube or xbox. |

This system is probably second only to the NES for me. The hardware was reliable even though I ended up owning 4 different versions because they wore out. Not from mishandling, but from use. My fondest memories of this system, and I'm sure Pete would agree, are of Socom, Socom 2, and FFXI. Socom was before it's time, it was the first successful online multiplayer shooter for a console AND it had voice chat. Socom will always be a part of my life and many friends I have today, both in the real and virtual worlds, have come from it. Many of the pros in MLG that are winning tourneys, guess where they started? Getting owned in the face by Pete, myself, and our amazing group of killers, THE Sudden Kill Organization. Just a few months ago, SCEA shut down all the servers that supported Socom and Socom 2. It was a sad day, not because I still played the game, but because I could never go back. It was like seeing an old girlfriend that you had alot of fun with and have fond memories of, after several years, and realizing that that part of your life is over. RIP |

I love the Playstation 2 so much. It is my favorite system of all time. Now that its era is ending or did end I am wondering if it is considered a retro console now. |

so many classics. Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, I really enjoyed the WWE Smackdown series on the system, the list of great games is long as the lifespan of the PS2 |

It would actually be pretty difficult for me to say with certainty whether my PS1 or PS2 got more gaming hours out of me when I was growing up, but at a guess I would say the PS2. I'll list off some games I played to DEATH, not all of these (by a long way probably) are considered "classics", but it's what I grew up on: MGS2 (and later 3 ofc) RE4 Code Veronica X The Bouncer GTA 3 and Vice City Timesplitters 2 SSX Tricky Tekken Tag Gauntlet Dark Legacy (first time I saw a multitap and it blew my mind) SW Battlefront A seriously terrible Army Men game who's name escapes me FFX and X-2 (yes, I love that game) and SO many more I can't think of tight now 'cause I should be sleeping xD I loved my PS2, I never had a Nintendo (apart from a Game Boy) that was my own growing up, or a Dreamcast, or a Saturn. For me it went Mega Drive > PS1 > PS2 (and a LOT of OOT at a friends house :P) before I could finally go back and get the stuff I missed out on. But before I did, I didn't care. I had my PS2, and I was VERY contented =] |

Largest library of quality games for a home console ever. Some may argue the SNES, but the ps2 just had a massive massive library. I remember getting home the first day and popping in Jak and Daxter and having my jaw just drop as I took in the graphical leap from the ps1. I remember getting FFX, my first traditional rpg, and falling in love with a genre that I still adore to this day. While the ps1 holds a more special place in my heart, the ps2 will never be forgotten. |

I played the hell out of this system while growing up, I loved it so much. I beat Jak and Daxter at least 3 times. Star Wars Racer Revenge, I conquered that game and It felt amazing once me and my brother unlocked everything. I loved that game and its the only racing game I got seriously engrossed in. Kingdom Hearts, my first RPG ever. I got it for my brother for Christmas one year. I saw the cover in the store and decided that we must get it. Man he was so excited. He told me that it looked super fun. When we started it up, we were really confused after playing tons of platformers and racing games. It had an FMV music video with some nice J-pop. It was foreign to me but some part of me liked it a little, it definitely grew on me and now I love that song. (Not the jpop version) Me and my brother pretty much conquered the hell out of KH. Me and him loved it and loved the fact that Disney characters were in it also. KH2, I remember seeing that In Walmart and freaking out and pretty much forcing my mother to buy it for me. Hahah man did I ever love that game. Me and my brother beat that one really fast. I have fond memories of the PS2 mainly because my brother would watch me every second I was playing and I would watch him every second he was playing. We had this sort of bond that is now lost. The most recent game we played together was LA Noire. We helped each other make decisions on what questions to ask and what choices to make. It reminded me of when we were kids. I'm getting a little off topic.. but the PS2 has a special place in my heart most certainly. Plus I watched countless DVDs on my ps2 and played PSX games like Ape Escape, Spyro trilogy and Crash trilogy all the damn time. |

LOL, I'm still actively playing the PS2, because of the oodles of RPG's that were released on it. I finally finished DQVIII last year and I'm probably starting Roque Galaxy pretty soon. While I prefer the PS1 a teensy bit more (because of FFVII, FFVIII & FFIX), the PS2 was an awesome console. games like Kingdom Hearts, MGS2 and 3, DQVIII, Silent Hill 2 and 3, Zone of Enders, Persona 4, Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy X and XII really made it stand out above the rest. |

Dreamcast. GameCube. PS2 just has so few worthwhile titles and what ones are good are typically multiplats that run better on the other systems. It's an incredibly overrated system. 'oh but it has over 9000 super amazing games for everyone'. Well obviously not for me, why is it I can own over 50 games for Dreamcast, 40 on GameCube, systems with supposedly poor libraries, yet barely 20 (most of which are multiplats by the way) on this so called 'amazing library' and 'something for everyone'? It's just as overrated as the NES and especially the PS1. Edited by helsinkirocks, Jan 16 2013, 02:03 PM.

Your hate for the ps2 is pretty annoying. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you seriously post your ps2 hate on every thread that mentions the console's name. Dreamcast is a system that has been turned into a martyr because of its fate and is in fact overrated today. Saying the GC has a better library than the ps2 is just a stupid statement in general. I don't think a single person will support you on that one. You can look at everything from critical reviews to the everyday gamer to see that you are pretty much alone in your opinion. Most of the highest rated DC titles are extremely outdated today and many were fun sports titles. As an RPG gamer the system has very little to offer. The DC was essentially a machine bringing near arcade quality to the home console market at an affordable price. The Gamecube had some great games, but the library was not large and there is no way in hell I would ever consider it better than the Ps2. The PS1 overrated? We are talking about some of the greatest critically acclaimed games ever. I could agree with you about the NES from a modern day perspective as I truly believe that many games haven't aged well at all and that the system is mostly for older gamers who see everything with nostalgia goggles. BUT if you played the system when it was the king of consoles, then you would have seen how truly revolutionary it was and would have been able to appreciate the amazing games it had for its time. That being said, some of the platformers on the system are still as great as ever and are timeless classics. |

A little off-topic, but ... I'm not exactly sure how the NES can be overrated either. I had a Collecovision (?), all the Atari's pre-NES, and a Commodore 64 when the NES came out, and it blew everything out of the water. Similarly, PS2 was just such a huge upgrade over the PS1 in so many ways to me. Regardless, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just don't happen to agree. |

I for one am not one of the PS2's biggest fans, i actually think its an unreliable little shit most of the time, but i really cant deny its massive collection of games and the gems it contains. I was always more of an Xbox man myself, most of the mutliplatform games always seemed better to me on the Xbox and it also never broke and never stopped reading disks. At the end of the day though this is a PS2 appreciation thread and for people to share fond memories of the console and not just for people to slate the system and say it wasnt as good as this, or that, or my fav console. Just because it's library doesnt contain anything you care to play doesnt mean it's only half decent. I have a poor fanboy hatred for the NES in many ways but i cant deny it has lots of fantastic games, even if i think they would have been better on Master System. I own a Dreamcast, a Gamecube and a PS2 and i can safely say the PS2 wipes them all with no contest. I personally feel the Dreamcast has become some glorified relic of what was meant to be retro and that it's life was undeservedly cut short. I like some games on the system but hell, the thing just doesnt do it for me. The PS1 on the other hand is a machine made for gaming bliss, i dont even think its possible to overate it. Sooooooooo many good exclusive games and many great titles that were ported from the PC too. Sure some of the ports are terrible compared to the PC, but thats the same today too. :/ So why go into a PS2 thread just to bash it? I dont go around the Nintendo threads saying "Nintendo suck!" like a child and i dont see why anyone else would. I respect that you have an opinion on all these consoles and thats great, but leave the PS2 appreciation threads for the fans and the people with nice stuff to say about it. |

It was a hell of a ride while it lasted. For me the Kingdom Heart's series was the first action RPG's and Square game's I ever played and it was a blast, to this day I'll never forget the opening CG cutscene for the first game. Edited by Mrkingdomheartsboy, Jan 25 2013, 09:25 PM.
