Apparently there is going to be an HD Remake of the classic game Flashback coming out soon. Its being published by Ubisoft and is being worked on by the original creator and his development studio, Vectorcell. This is one of my favourite games ever made and one i always recommend to people. The franchise has been sorely overlooked and i cant wait to see what they do with it. Personally i'd just like to see the original version released for all the download services but this has still got me pretty excited. 2013 wont be a complete bore, hurrah! Any of you guys fans of the Flashback series or even just the first one? What do you think about the HD remake? http://www.computerandvideogames.com/387669/flashback-hd-looks-set-for-consoles-and-pc/# |

I actually just purchased this game for SNES at a local pawn shop for $2, but sadly haven't been able to play it yet because my power cord for my SNES has a short. It is always great to see HD remakes of old games, and I'm really excited to play the original! |

Wow that's epic there remaking Flashback! Will be looking forward to getting some more information about this. Would be nice if it gets a physical release but If it don't maybe it will make it to steam at least. |

Yeah, i know right? It's only been 20years haha. I was never a fan of the sequel Fade to Black, it looked good at the time but it wasn't anything like Flashback. Flashback is a game that seems really hard at first, but if you persist and learn the area's you can literally speedrun the shit out of it. I should do this, i'll give up my job and work strictly at the Flashback speedrun record. or not...

I played Flashback on the Amiga a ton back in the day. It was a lot of fun. Though I felt like it was a kind of a fluke for that guy. Pretty much everything he's been involved with afterwards has been lackluster at best and downright awful at worst. Take for example Shaq Fu, poor Diablo clone Darkstone, or the most recent failure, AMY on XBLA. I think Eric Chahi was the real star of Delphine and Flashback just kind of glommed off of his success with Another World (to the point where everyone at the time thought of Flashback as a kind of sequel to Another World). Not to say Flashback is bad, quite the opposite, it's just that without pretty much copying the formula put in place by Chahi, I assume Delphine would have just went back to making mediocre to bad games. |

Yeah, i've never liked the connection between Another World and Flashback. You always hear the term "Spiritual Sequel" thrown around and it drives me nuts. Its heavily influenced by Another World but the two couldn't really be any more different. I think limbo is probably more of a spiritual sequel to Another World in terms of play mechanics, goals and the threats held by the game. Every single puzzle will kill you in an instant if you make the slightest mistake. Flashback has a more paced action adventure style, forcing you to search these wonderfully drawn area's to complete your main objective. The controls are perfect, whereas i find that Another World would be utterly unplayable to kids now. Then again, i think anyone that has given Flashback a play recently probably didn't bother getting past the first level. Its a real shame seeing as the rest of the game is where it really came into its own.

The reviews for this game have been disappointing, to say the least. The main complaints are the controls and awkward platforming mechanics, two things that I was kind worried about. I loved the original when I played it on the SNES, and I think this one looks good, but I'll pass until it goes on sale. |
