Did the Atari 2600 and 7800 ever have box inserts when they were first around? I am looking to buy some Atari's on eBay and none of them have their original inside box cardboard inserts. Are they missing because they never existed or because they lost them? Thanks |

Depends on what you mean by box inserts. If you mean things like cart slots or trays, it depending on the style of packaging, manufacturer/publisher, etc (for instance the IMAGIC and M Network titles were pretty different in packaging from the Atari titles). Other sorts of inserts like promotional material and registration cards also depended on the release. If you are talking about system box inserts, yes, each one had different kinds. The 7800 for instance generally had two styrofoam pieces that the console sat between, the controllers were covered in a cheap cardboard housing, etc. If you are interested in diving in further, I'd suggest checking out AtariAge. There are lots of old-timers there that are very knowledgeable when it comes to Atari stuff.
