Hey guys. I've been playing this game I found recently, that I find to be quite amazing. The whole shtick of the game is that it's an MMO, but in the style of an old school NES RPG. I've noticed that taking old school games and turning them into MMOs is really taking off, and I find this one unique because it's a completely original game, only with retro elements (and also pays homage to many retro RPGs). Another think I love about this game, is that NOBODY plays it. The largest server never has more than 100 players. But it's such a fun game. I was curious if anybody else has played NEStalgia..?

It sounds interesting, but it isn't actually all that great to play. Theres a really wierd lag when you are walking around, the combat gets pretty stale almost instantly and it's really boring to look at. I don't mind games taking on a classic art style (infact in a lot of cases I looooove it) but it makes combat super dull. Almost all of the special abilities I used were represented by a flashing screen, the original FF games on NES were MUCH better animated than this and it was released, what, 25 years ago? Even a simple change like that would improve it significantly.

Of course, then you go on and read up on how unprofessional and childish the dev has been in the past:

and you loose any desire to defend the game. So, as a novelty, it's interesting. But for me (and most others probably) there is zero lasting appeal.

I'm finding that I don't enjoy the game, as much as I enjoy the small community. It's a fun game to play with friends, cause if you lose your buddy, it's so easy to find him.
