Episode 40 - Caffeinated and Inebriated; Featuring CaffeineMediaGirl

Another milestone is hit as we celebrate hitting the big 4-0, so let's break out the coffee and whisky! Ben and Andy welcome to the show Anna, aka. CaffeineMediaGirl, as the first guest of 2013. In this episode, we discuss the big gaming news of the past week - how Nintendo brought out the awesome with their Nintendo Direct announcements, the demise of THQ and the big Ni No Kuni pre-order debacle. We also delve into the games we've been playing, and since Anna is a musical savant, the long-dormant music segment is resurrected! This is indeed an episode not to be missed!

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJQUWySZJY0

As always, the iTunes and MP3 download links are available in the description box.

Question of the Week

Given the borderline fraud that Namco Bandai/Digital Rivers committed with Ni No Kuni, so you feel the compensation they are offering is enough? Sub-question: What music have you been listening to? Throw some recommendations at us.

CrazyKrafft mentioned Skynyrd. He wins the thread.

Had 'I Need you' playing as I walked out with my wife when we got married. God damn, I love this band :D

I'll refrain from being the typical a-hole and not point out any mistakes that were made like Ben incorrectly saying Drippy's accent is Scottish when it is Welsh (they do sound a bit similar though so I can see why you would make the mistake).

Drippy's accent sounds very Billy Connolly to me, so I assumed it was Scottish. Honestly, I couldn't even tell you what a Welsh accent sounds like.

Lol, yep think my post is worthy of that image in your eyes. Made me laugh nonetheless.

I don't recall another game that features a Welsh accent whatsoever since you usually hear the other accents from the UK in games but never it. If there was, it is very rare indeed. But yeah it does sound like Billy Connolly from what I saw. Nice to see you are enjoying it nonetheless and Andy and I will probably be getting our copies from shopto sometime this week anyway and do the usual explicit act.

Some people here think i sound really broad in terms of my accent, but im nothing compared to the rest of my family. I don't think anyone here would understand them to be honest, they are proper country scottish folk. They make Glaswegians almost sound normal... :ermm:

Birmingham booty call. Mostly 90's rap, Slipknot, and Daft Punk in anticipation for their new album in Spring! Mushroom stamp. Rap nowadays is such shit in comparison, it's like taking a dick in the ear. Japanese Parachute.

I don't really care about the Ni No Kuni thing tbh. Piss window.

---
I would love to see Twilight Princess rebooted in HD, or on the 3DS. That's my favorite one, I didn't like Majora's Mask or Windwaker too much.

Andy I am so disappointed in you. Fan of God Hand, Ghost Squad, Streets of Rage, Yakuza, we were a perfect match...and then you don't like Bayonetta. My woody has gone significantly down. I am proud that you knew about German anal fisting though.

Great guest! Entertaining show. Agreed with her regarding Coachella's lineup, that's my problem with it too.

Mind you, in perspective you could say that about 90's rap in comparison to 80's rap/hip-hop. I cringe evertime i hear Dr Dre, Snoopdog or any Cypress Hill after II, and i can barely listen to II. :-/

OMG loved, LOVED the music section at the end. Between nodding in agreement to your recommendations and then grabbing a pen to write down bands to check out...it was awesome! Thanks guys.

Oh yeah, and Porcupine Tree is excellent. Seen them twice live and they are excellent. Cool mix of Pink Floyd, Opeth-heaviness and more.

I gotta agree with andsy on Bayonetta it was wacky but with zero charm also Bayonetta is a bit of a Dog so when the game is constantly trying to tell you how sexy she is it falls flat. It probably didn't help that i detest Devil May Cry which this was very similar to.

I also rebelliously banged Jack in Mass Effect 2 as i got the feeling they were trying to force Miranda as the choice of partner.

Namco Bandai should do a reprint and honor all canceled preorders and throw in the strategy guide for free.

Bands I've been listing to / recommendations are White Wizzard, Mortal Sin, Vektor, Holy Grail, Whiplash, Violent Force, Austrian Death Machine, Carnivore, Arsenite, and AirbourNe.

Just for the record, Wind Waker on GameCube is NOT cheap anymore, unless you find it lucky in the wild.
The cheapest it's going for these days online about $40USD.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Legend-Zelda-Wind-Waker-GameCube/dp/B000084318/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359692918&sr=8-1&keywords=wind+waker

Also can we please stop calling Twilight Princess a motion control game? The butchered horrible Wii port is a motion game, the real, GameCube Twilight Princess, is an incredible Zelda game. :)

Hate to break it to you guys, Bayonetta 2 will stay Wii U Exclusive. It's being co-developed by Nintendo and Platinum. Nintendo is mostly paying for the development as well, do not expect it to be ported at all.

I'm glad Namco/Bandai is trying to make up for this fuck up, but it is a fuck up that should not have happened

as far as music I am enjoying, I am a big Country Music fan, so a few songs I really enjoy are Eric Church Springsteen, Florida Georgia Line Cruise.

Non country I really enjoy Metallica, Kid Rock, Saliva, Jason Heine, Brysi, (Look him up on youtube, he does alot of video game based music) hiimrawn is another youtube video game music maker, and I will throw one more at you Rascals, Shining Wizado, he does Pro Wrestling based music and I really enjoy his stuff, I know Andy used to watch wrestling I don't know about Ben though, so to end this..... Cheers Bitches!

why does Bjork sing about "mountains" a lot? Should play a drinking game every time she says mountain.

For the Ni No Kuni thing, that's a bit loopy. I really think the problem is that scalper guy more than the company itself. While the compensation may seem a bit bleh, namco-bandai is doing something at least. Personally, if something like that happened to me, I would refrain from purchasing anything with that distributor. You have to talk with your purchases and not buying something with that distributing company is the best way to voice your displeasure in their practices.

As for the sub question, I generally listen to a ton of doujin music. Many different styles and lots of great music to start up and get the old noodle thinking about various things.

This is SSH. He has done a lot of very popular game song remixes, which can be found on the old arrange folders. However, the few originals he does have on his site are really enjoyable:D Lots of rock, lots of good tunes:D

http://www.vivix.info/sound.htm
ViViX, also known as Godspeed. He has a good deal of rock on here as well, but he also has some very different orchestral style of music, which is great to hear.

in the blue has a lot of great background music that's good for relaxing. Down in the blue bar on the bottom right, you will see the link for music. Click it and enjoy:D

U gen's original and arrange music is great. Tons of Rockman music and his original shiki songs are top notch. I am really surprised he down't have a job working as a video game music composer. This guy is awesome:D

I also popped in Beethoven's Last Night, a CD by Trans Siberian Orchestra not too long ago. A really awesome CD and, unlike most of their songs, can be listened to at any point of the year without feeling a little disconnected.

I'm obviously still behind on episodes, so I haven't been able to keep up with the regular discussions and QOTWs, but nonetheless I enjoyed the episode and it provided a great backdrop as I played and finished up Klonoa a while back. Your conversations on music always astound me as all of your knowledge always greatly exceeds that of mine and CaffeineMediaGirl added yet another great perspective on the industry with some recommendations I had never heard of between all of you as usual. I'm such a noob when it comes to music, it's interesting to see people on the complete opposite side of the spectrum.
