If you could only enjoy one medium for the rest of your life, which would you choose.

I will set some ground rules so people know the details. By choosing one of the choices you give up your right to enjoy the other mediums for entertainment purposes. So, you wouldn't lose your ability to read a book but you would no longer be able to read a book because you want to but rather only because you have to. If you choose video games, then you can still hear in game music, but you can never listen to music outside a game of your own free will. If someone happens to be playing a song you can hear it, but you can never choose to hear a song you want or have someone play a song you want for you. In other words, you only give up the entertainment value of each of the mediums and you would still have the ability to use all these tools to function in day to day life.

So, which would you choose?

Now this is really tough for me and probably for everyone. I would go with Video Games, but I think books would be a close second.

Interesting topic. I'm going to say Video Games. I can live without the others.

I also second to post this as a poll.

Music without a doubt.

I love videogames but i could live without them, but i really couldn't live without music in my life. Music inspires me, calms me, helps me ride out the bad times and fuels me through the good times. Whether it's live acts, listening to my MP3 player at work or on long walks, playing and writing or just jamming out with good friends...music is closer to my core than videogames ever could be.

As much as I love playing video games, I wouldn't be able to study and learn new, interesting things if I could no longer read books. Books are a necessity. They're enjoyable at times, too. I'll have to go with books. I could replay retro games in my head.

Yes, you would have to give up all those things, unless you despise your band class and playing music. If it is entertainment, then you have to give it up.

No, you could still read books for school as that wouldn't be for entertainment. You could still read books to learn, but you have to make sure it was absolutely not for entertainment value at all. Pretty much you couldn't read any novels.

It's an incredibly hard choice, however I have to choose video games, mostly because I can't imagine my spare time being void of gaming, as much as I love music, I think I'd miss video games more.

As far as movies are concerned, I don't watch a ton of movies, while I do watch one or two a week, most of the time I prefer watching TV shows.

And not being able to read books is a bit of a bummer, but I assume that it would only be works of fiction and not educational or historical books? If so then you're quite fucked if you want an education.

Ds Games!

This is a very tough decision. If I had to rank them, music would be last for sure but then it gets difficult after that. There are many stories I have read that have been amazing, the sames goes with movies I've watched and games I've played. I may have to go with video games in the end because they're the most interactive but I'd really miss graphic novels and some movies.

This is a very tough desision, since 2 of these are my biggest passions. Video games and music. At first i though music was completly out since i dont listen to it very much but then i relized that one of the biggest things i do is music. Concert band, jazz band, pep band. All of those things make up me and all my RL friends are friends from band, so if it was now i would say music, in 5 years video games

Although I love all of the other mediums, music would easily be my choice. I have been a music fan for most of my life, and while my love of video games has fluctuated, I have remained consistently passionate about music. Nowadays, I am constantly listening to something, be it on my iPod outside or on my computer at work. I have no problem leaving the house without my 3DS, but I would sooner leave the house without pants than forget my iPod.

To give you another reason why I would pick music, here is *some* of my CD collection...

Music, without a shadow of a doubt.

I cannot function without some form of music during my day. I listen while I go to the gym, I listen on the way to work, I lsiten while AT work I listen while I cook, take a dump, study, hell - I still need it to fall asleep.

Without music, I cannot LIVE.

Second answer: porn. Replace music above with porn. True story.

You just went up quite a few notches in my estimation. THAT is impressive.

And I love music myself. I was in band from early elementary school (alto saxophone) and continued with private lessons well into high school. Drums were my love though. I don't have pics of my kit from way back then, but it was a Rogers full double bass with four rack toms, two floor toms, several different snares that I could swap in and out, and 8 different Zildjin (?) symbols. We played a couple shows and had opportunities to open for some biggish bands from 16 years ago in the alternative genre. Unfortunately, I don't own that kit anymore and music isn't quite as important for me either. I still have several guitars and find a new band every now and then that I cannot stop listening to for weeks on end. But ...

... I can't imagine humanity without books. To me, books seem to be just about essential to the continued existence of mankind. The written word. Is it even possible to have music without a way to express it in written form? Is that a book? I can imagine man without music. Sure it would be a boring and gray existence, but who's to say what heights we would reach without that distraction?

And books can take you to places that cannot be duplicated by games and may never be. It's the power of imagination (insert South Park reference here). Playing EVERY game, that may not be possible either btw, doesn't really translate very well into money or overall intellect imo. Whereas, reading a few books does ...

I'd say books rank last. As much as I like to read, I STILL need to stimulate my other senses from time to time. For that, music is out as well, since it's only gonna stimulate one, plus I've heard a lot already and honestly I get bored of it relatively quickly.

It's between movies and video games, definitely. Video games offer the most interaction, as well as being able to sit there and play a game like the first Saint's Row and hearing a lot of the music I like anyways. However, storytelling and dialogue in video games are often several steps behind that of movies, and feels a bit more forced and plastic. Film is also a much older and wider medium, and I highly doubt I'll see all the movies I want to see, past and present, before I die. Sometimes I feel the opposite way about video games already. Plus I'd just find a loophoole and say that listening to movie OST's is just part of the package and fair game.

So let's just say movies.
