WARNING: Drunken Podcast, engage! In celebration of their one year anniversary, Ben and Andy get a bit tipsy (more than a slight exaggeration) and reminisce about the past year, what got them started and where the podcast is going. As usual, Ben rambles on, Andy chucks in a few F-bombs and a merry time was had....perhaps a little too merry, though the magnitude of the post-podcast hangover will determine that. Loved the episode guys. Can't wait for the future of the Rad Rascals. Question of The Week: There is one change that should be made and that is more cat talk. The booze segment should be a weekly segment where you drink a new beer or beverage that you have never tried before live on the podcast. Also would you please stop mentioning stuff like Mr. Hands because every time y'all mention shit like that I always end up looking it up and now I am scarred for life. I have to say, from listening to the listener responses...You guys must have truly horrible internet if you think PSN download speeds are bad. I have satellite internet, which is complete ass. Yet I was able to download and install all of the following on one night and in under an hour and a half no less- when using my laptop would take days to download an equal amount of data. -Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare (~1.5GB) -Sega Rally Online (~1.2GB) -Sonic 4: Episode 2 (~500MB) -Sonic CD (~400MB) -Sonic the Fighters (~90MB) -Nights HD (~2.0GB) -Sonic Adventure 2 HD (~3.0GB) -Jet Set Radio HD (~1.2GB) As for system updates/game patches. Again, I've never had any last them 5 or so minutes tops. Besides, unless it's an online game, the patches aren't even mandatory. You have the option to press O to skip patching them. So if you wanna sit down and play your single player game, skip the patches and play the game. Also to address the Cross Platform Chat, and Hardware level implementation of custom soundtracks- Microsoft owns the patent for both- so it won't happen. On the PS3, custom soundtracks have to be implemented by the developer and isn't there at a hardware level. ACTUAL QUESTION OF THE WEEK ANSWER: I'm not 21 yet...but I will be in less than two months....but I have drank before, with my band's drummer and my fiance who are both 21. From what I had- I fucking hated Mike's Hard Lemonade- but I loved the fuck out of Mike's Hard Black Cherry Lemonade. In terms of liquor, I love Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum. Goes excellent with Coke and or Dr. Pepper. When mixed with Dr. Pepper you can't even taste the rum, it's just alcoholic Dr. Pepper. As for non alcoholic drinks, I love Mountain Dew, Code Red Mountain Dew, Cherry Pepsi, Cherry Coke, Cream Soda, Sarsparilla. I hate, hate, hate coffee, nastiest thing I've ever had. However, SpeedWay has 'Pumpkin Spice Cappuccino' around halloween, and it's delicious. Tastes like liquid sugar cookies. Energy drinks are for the most part, horrid- except Full Throttle, which tastes like Mountain Dew + Smarties candy. Unlike most people, caffeine doesn't wake me up- it actually puts me to sleep haha. Man, I get singled out for giving constructive criticisms. Makes me feel like I've been a dick@_@ Kidding aside, I hope it has been of some help, at least. As for the question: - I believe the reading of the answers is incredibly lengthy. I know you guys wanted to trim it down. That's an aspect of the podcast that should, especially when there is a guest. You guys even mentioned it with the episode Marmul was on. - Killjoy alert: I skip the sex act thing entirely. It's only profane. There's nothing witty about it. It's like trying to tell The Aristocrats, but chopped up and disjointed. so I'd would be probably one of the few to say drop that segment. - Get some reading segments in there! My favorite alcoholic drink is the White Russian. I rarely drink, but when I do, it's a White Russian as a nightcap. Oh, also, why do so many people complain about PSN updates? They don't take that long for me and even if they did, I would do something else while it was updating. It seems pretty trite. I guess I never get into a mood where I just want to play a video game and only do that. Also, the DS version of Ni No Kuni was turn-based. hey guys great episode again, im really looking forward to the future of the rascals q.o.t.w - i dont think anything needs changing really, i would like to hear a bit more retro but thats just me. perhaps a 5 minute retro corner on anything you guys want, like games,films,music or toys anything that you have good memories of. as for the sub question all i drink now really when i can is fosters gold or tuborg, i find i dont get hanovers with them, also every now and again a nice bottle of baileys goes down a treat

Mine download just fine since I have super fast broadband (70+ mb) and it downloads most big files just fine but tend to switch to wired sometimes. Before I got that, the downloads did take forever! Edited by Darro, Feb 18 2013, 03:21 PM.

Interesting episode to listen to! Didn't seem that much different from other episodes despite the fact there was drink involved and you were getting more drunk or sober in Andy's case it seemed as time went on! :p Believe you guys did do a booze segment before on one of the earlier episodes but forget which one it is now. I wouldn't like it to come up every episode now since I don't drink and couldn't care less about the various ales, spirits, wines etc (and this is coming from someone who works that section in his job at nights) In terms of the question of the week, there is not a whole lot I would change but I think you should try and cut down on the time you give on the main topic discussion because sometimes that goes on for too long! Think it was with Craig where you talked for at least an hour on the subject and feel 30-40 mins is good, which I think it was in this episode. I had an idea for something that I would like to do for my own podcast (feel free to steal it since I did it with you) in that you would each discuss a thing in gaming or media or anything in life that you hate and you would want it put into Room 101 (a guest would determine who put up the best argument). Based on a radio & television series where celebrities do that. As you know I don't drink, do drugs or smoke (straight edge! :p). I tend to drink water (normal, still & sparkling fruit), green tea and various infusions and diet orange since I do need something to quench my thirst sometimes when I am dying of thirst and that usually does the job. |

You dude you should check the 1 More Castle podcast, they do a segment called the RETRRROOOOOOOOOO SHHHOOOOWWWWDDDOOOWWWNNN! It's a great retro gaming podcast, it's short too, usually only 50mins - 70mins long. QotW: I have but one niggle about the Radical Rascals, and that is I think sometimes the discussions about podcasting and YouTubing go on for too long. I understand that, due to the nature of your guests and audience, the topic is unavoidable; but you're just going to have to trust me when I say you guys are far more entertaining when you're not podcasting about podcasting. Tbh I only put in sex stuff in my responses because I just wanted to see if Andy and Ben would say them out loud with guests around. Which I'm so happy they did have the balls to do it! But I could totally understand if people don't like the segment. Regarding the PS3 stuff I'm not going to blame my internet. The fact that my Xbox 360 can download updates in seconds and my PS3 takes 20 minutes to update Uncharted 3 is a system problem. I don't have trouble downloading stuff off the PSN Store, but its the updates and firmware shit that takes way too long. I'm just going to post responses to the episode in your guy's new forum. Hey guys, long time since the last time i answered the question of the week, ok here it goes: For the podcast i would like you to be as personal as you have been all this time, I am sure that one of the main reasons people like your podcast its because is so personal, sometimes it feels like a chat with a couple of my personal friends, as for bad things well i dont like the cat segment that much, sorry Andy, i do like cats but the cat segmente not that much, And for the drink, well im not an expert or anything, but I like the Long Island (vodka, tequila, rum, gin, cola and lemon) it tastes so good, i also like those cans of Jack Daniels and cola, i know i know your are not supposed to mix whiskey with cola, but i swear to god it good, as for beer, you may not know these but i like Tecate light, coors light and XX lager (dos equis lager) and if you happen to come to mexico especifically to Sonora ask for "bacanora" it will hit you like nothing else =) Edited by MagusSage, Feb 23 2013, 01:46 AM.

Thoughts on the podcast: I like your guy's personalities! It's just funny to hear you guys go back and forth on stuff. Me & Andsy have similar taste in games, like Mystical Ninja & Fist of the North Star. That's awesome. The broad spectrum of topics that are discussed are enjoyable. I recently got into "Bad Religion" the band after hearing about them briefly during a music segment on a past episode. Food segments are always fun, because everyone likes food. Maybe going over recipes on how to make some of the awesome food mentioned would be a plus  Community is very connected. I always feel that if I wait a little bit, I'll see a new response shortly on the current episode topic. Constructive criticism time! I agree with the post above. I do like to know where the podcast is going but I think it clocked it between 45mins-1hr of talking about where the podcast will go this episode. A 10min update at the beginning of the episode is cool, I'd rather hear you guys talk more about TV shows, music, games, etc than the podcast itself for so long. Question of the week responses are also entertaining and I like the community aspect of it but it does drag on. I would like to believe a large amount of the listeners do visit the forum and topic thread of the current episode, so reading out the entire responses after we read them seems redundant. Truncating them to the general idea that the poster was trying to get across to reduce the time spent on it as well would be good, in my opinion. I'll also join in with Muragaru and say that I'm not really a fan of the "guess that sex act" segment. Most of the stuff on the podcast doesn't gross me out as I find it just to be funny humor between two friends but knowing that someone actually sat down and attempted to think about the stuff mentioned in order to add it to a website, just makes me think that some people have actually attempted it. It's the Internet, so it honestly wouldn't shock me. I like it more when it's just a couple of friends going on about a funny topic, like the cooking with semen book. That was just hilarious lol |

I have to agree with those that have said to probably nuke the sex act segment altogether. I'm all for a dick or fart joke as much as the next guy but an entire section beating that (lol..) may wear thin... I dunno, in general I'm really not a fan of podcasts that lean too heavily on segments. That's what makes your podcast better than others, I think too many segments or an adherence to a specific time or structure might be alright at some point but I'd rather hear people just bullshit about whatever comes to mind rather than "here is x, lets move to y" etc etc |
