Which RPG is considered the most mathematically complex?

Path of Exile has one of the largest talent trees ever created. over 1300 points to sift through

Carnage heart on PS-1 had you programming robots behaviour

Eve is a complete nightmare of a game for how large it is..

Daggerfall had countless towns to visit....

Diablo series somewhat ushered in a larger amount of weapons and items than RPGS were used to....

but what other games are even crazier?

im looking for any hidden games that have just insane amounts of "stuff" or insane depth of character customization

thanks for your help!!

I Like Games.

Welcome to the forums, and great topic.
This is really hard...I imagine most of the complex RPGs are on the Pc. One that comes to mind though is Mugen Souls on the PS3.
That game never stops introducing new mechanics and tutorials. Tons of customization, stats, ways to level up, it's quite overwhelming if you ask me. The Dark Spire on Ds is not complex on the level you are thinking, but what makes it so puzzling is how little you are actually told as to how the game functions and how you are meant to play it.
The Disgaea series always turned me off from how overly complex the combat gets, if I remember right you can reach lvl 9999 or something, lol.

I kept scrounging around in the Xbox 360 Library and nothing really seemed to stand out. I rescued a copy of Star ocean 4 from a bankrupt video store....I saw about 15 copies of Zoids Assault....yuck!

oh well the search continues...hey thanks for those titles...ill be sure to check them out....and of course....any other titles that come to mind id love to hear about them!!

have you ever heard of a board game called "Campaign for North Africa" ? an interesting read if you have some downtime...

In just terms of complexity:

Twilight 2000 (this game probably still has the most in depth character creation I've ever handled. Between stats, abilities, career paths and age the variation of characters is immense)

Wizardry 8 (with the amount of races, expanded stats, and weapon/armor/class combos, not to mention the various beginnings and endings of the game, the game paths and parties are extra complex)

Pride of the Dragon Peace (the normal game mechanics aren't incredibly complex but there is an incredibly deep amount of customization in the dragon breeding in the game)

I'd say Resonance of Fate. Fuck that game, I wanted to like it but I could not figure out the battle system and it was really difficult.

If you just want a really complicated game in general, then I would suggest RTS or TBS games. If you think about it you can RP your philosophy, politics, and character through your empire/country in games like Civilization or Total War. Probably not the answer you were looking for, but maybe something to consider.

I think you hit it on the nose with that one. Even though MMORPGs tend to be more complex than there singleplayer counterparts as a whole, EVE is on a whole new level. Spoken from experience :P

I've yet to play a complex rpg so I can't comment on that but I'd like to say that the Diablo series is pretty simple. Sure there are a shitton of different items but most of it is garbage. And it's not hard to figure out which items are the better ones.

Ds Games!

Anyone ever play Knights in the Nightmare? I'd say that's a rather complex rpg, if you can even call it that. It's so complex I don't think it even has it's own genre.

Yea from a certain perspective the Diablo series is extremely simple.

The way I see the Diablo series is, when it first rolled out, Random weapons in Computer RPGs was very rare. Rare enough that I distinctly remember that every new game I saw a friend had discovered I would ALWAY quiz them:

How many items does this game have?

Does it have alot?

Diablo 1 blew everything we had played out of the water. in terms of item amount.

Diablo 2 continued this trend thankfully with even more flavour in item types and variations. to a degree which quite frankly earned it some pretty severe cult status!!!

Diablo 3 unfortunately fell on its face in this respect. the loot tables felt bland compared to D2....but the AH is absolutely enormous. its hundreds and hundreds of pages of weapons all being sold by people, and priced by them, which is fine variety; if you find a very powerful item and hawk spot it for a crazy price....even if the stats are "boring" its a cool feeling. haha obviously D3 is a universe consuming firestorm of a debate over ont he Blizzard forums :P:P

im just here to pick the brains of, and yap to the experts :P

P.S. Dwarf Fortress, a really new small indie PC strategy game that looks like its built for an old DOS machine is REALLY complex....check that one out!

I played EVE hard core from 2003 until 2012. It was not hard at all. It just took a certain personality type to be the wolf, a certain personality type to play the sheep and a third personality type to manipulate the wolves and the sheep. It is also not a game I'd even put up in this time of thread. It is a LIFE SINK not a game per se. Again, you won't see a 'game' unless you fall into one of the 3 personality types and probably would do nothing but flirt with an idea of what you think EVE is than actually understand what EVE is really.

Not one game like it, not one.

However, I think the hardest RPG out there is Classic Final Fantasy XI. That game is freaking insane. I'd also put Demon's Souls and Dark Souls up there. While I don't think they are hard gamewise, it takes a certain type of gamer to appreciate the simplicity of the mechanics to see the depth of the story and gameplay to be had.

This. This right here resonates with me (pun intended :P )Resonance of Fate was actually pretty cool in some aspects but the disjointed story, cryptic battle system, and awkward progression prevented me from liking it too much. Plus, it had BRUTAL boss fights - absolutely insane.
