The Place Promised in Our Early Days MINI REVIEW * I’m going to be doing these mini reviews because I think they are a lot easier for me to do, so I can get a consistent upload pattern. If you count this, consider it ½ of a review.* ![]() The place promised in our early days is an anime movie that was directed by Makoto Shinkai, the person who made 5 centimeters per second. Is this as good as other films? Well, you’re in luck because the answer is YES. The movie takes place in a world that japan was split in half, north and south. The north is Hokkaido which is referred to as Ezo, which is backed by the Union. The south is the rest of japan and is part of the alliance with the US. The plot follows 3 people, Hiroki Fujisawa, Takuya Shirakawa and Sayuri Sawatari. It covers early days, when they are all in middle school, and 3 years later when they are in high school. The plot is very personal with Sci-Fi elements, but don't confuse this with a Sci-Fi film. It hits hard when it needs to, and it’s enjoyable. It makes you think of personal and philosophical things. This movie has a great story. The music is atmospheric and very nice. They are cheery and upbeat when they need to be, but action packed or mysterious at other points. It’s a very orchestral soundtrack, and it’s amazing. There are a ton of solo pieces, and it’s a very different and interesting soundtrack. The music rocks in this movie. I could expect no less from a Tenmon, who made music for Falcom games and the other Shinkai movies. The artwork and animation in this movie are superb. This movie looks great. Every scene looks amazing. You could take a picture from any point in this movie and it would look like a piece of art. It’s superb. In conclusion, The Place Promised in our early days is superb, and you should watch it. It’s great, and it’s a must watch. |
