Yeah, anyway, it seems to me like Microsoft is trying to make big steps in digital distribution and connectivity even if people aren't ready for it. They're going to shove it down peoples' throats because they have the money too. Sony has to be much more cautious (they've been hemorrhaging money) but they still just want one thing... your money. Why is it not one Sony fanboy has been upset about having to pay for PS+ to play online? I mean, these are people that told me I was stupid for paying for XBL and they would never pay to play games online (I already pay for PS+ too so no big deal for me) and now they have no problem doing the same thing? Tsk tsk. In short, they both see us as walking dollar signs but Sony is taking a more Captain America approach.

Exactly. Sony took the heavy-handed approach the previous console cycle and it didn't go well. Microsoft will see that this time and I wonder if they will even survive this tbh.

I pre-ordered the PS4. I might just put it up on Ebay after I get it, but at this point, I won't ever get the XB1 because the business principles they are trying to ENFORCE (and that is exactly as what they are doing) aren't what I think is good for gaming in general. Once precedents are set, it's hard to go back.
Death is certain, life is not.

Do they want to? Microsoft is huge and Sony took MAJOR hits with the last gen but they're still standing, I think MS will be ok but maybe they'll back out of the console market. They're really pushing for the tv answer right now and I can see them getting more into the casual market with games as a "look what else this can do" type feature. I hope not, the market needs competition. We need a big company to come out and say; "Hey, this thing plays awesome games, you can play online for free, we've got some great exclusives, and just about every release (barring indie or bite sized downloads) is available as day one download or on a disc.". Won't happen I know, but a guy can hope.

This deadpool analogy is perfect! Haha.

I've wondered a bit if Microsoft is attempting to back out of the gaming market as well. I think this is a big experiment to see if they can gain enough revenue through other means in order to sustain themselves. I'm honestly very sad to have to turn my back on them, but it simply is not feasible for me to own an XB1.

It is a bit disappointing to have to pay for online services through the ps4. I never really play online, but it was nice to have the option to for free on my ps3. I will probably be able to pay for ps+ now that I will only be buying games for 2 home consoles this gen (Wii U and PS4), and getting free games as well also helps justify a purchase.

I usually buy every console each generation. But in this case I must speak with my wallet and let Microsoft know that this is not okay.

Here is a Link to a great article illustrating the "10 year rental fear" in regards to XB1 games and online check ins.

More misinformation...

"Users banned on Xbox One will not lose access to the games they've purchased, Director of Programming Larry Hyrb (Major Nelson, colloquially) told Reddit Games during an E3 video interview.

This became a popular question following an Xbox Support Twitter answer from June 13 that read, "If your account is banned, you also forfeit the licenses to any games that have licenses tied to it as listed in the ToU." The question specified Xbox One, but later, Xbox Support said this answer was in reference to Xbox 360.

Major Nelson had a clear answer for future banned users on Xbox One: "Absolutely not, you will always have access to the games you purchased."

As for what will happen if, down the road, Xbox One's authentication servers are shut down, Major Nelson couldn't say. "I'll get the real answer, I just don't know it yet," he said."

To be honest, I liked what that that XBox engineer said, he should be their PR guy from now on.

Still not buying an XBox One right away but the rage against this machine makes me laugh. Oh M$, you're so dumb, lol.

Larry Hyrb was quoted as saying they almost certainly will lift the online requirement at the end of the Xbox One's life cycle so you can still play your games after the servers are shut down. I think as collectors we still want to hold on to physical discs but eventually we are gonna move to all digital. Think about how you listen to your music these days...how many still buy and pop in physical discs? Probably a handful if any. I'm getting both systems. I always do for the exclusives. I will enjoy both and leave the fanboyism to the forums.

I buy more digital music than physical but if it's a group or singer I REALLY like I buy the physical copy of the disc and convert it to MP3. I rarely pop in my CDs but I always have a few on hand an a lot of times give one to a buddy to listen to it and they end up downloading more of that group's stuff. Physical media is great for sharing but if somebody takes away the ability to do that it rips a small part of what makes that medium great away. I love gaming and will end up with both systems but like I waited a long time to get the PS3... I'll be waiting a while to get the XB1. With a family I can't just throw $1000 dollars into a hobby that I don't even get to enjoy as much these days. I hope Sunset Overdrive is good, and The Order, but the exclusives so far aren't making me jump for joy.

I buy my music digitally but I can listen to it offline. If iTunes started a policy where you had to be connected to the internet to listen to music you already downloaded I would never even consider using it.

That's understandable because you take your music everywhere.

Wow! All these policies and rules make it way too confusing for me. Where is the time where you had a device a cartridge, you blow in it, put it in the device, hit ON and game time....

I'm waiting for a company to come out with a new console and just be like; "No pay to play online, no microtransactions (any dlc will be an expansion pack), and no drm. Have fun!". But I know it will never happen.

I think the opposite is true. Of coarse my phone will usually have internet. Why would my house have internet? Is this 2002 when people had TV and internet hard-wired to their houses? Internet is mobile now. Everyone has smartphones these days and for most people those are all the internet they need. Then again Microsoft apparently thinks people still have cable TV, and they work for Microsoft so they probably need home internet connections, so they probably don't realize that while much of the world can't get broadband YET another large group of people have already cut the cord and gone wireless. As far as I'm concerned the Xbox One (aka the most poorly named consumer product of all time) isn't $100 more than a PS4, it's $200 plus $65/month more since it needs a home internet connection that I don't want just to function.

Diablo 3 and Sim City (or Sim whatever, I don't follow the Sims) recently launched required internet connections even for single player gameplay and both were epic disasters because of it. You'd think Microsoft would have learned from other people mistakes.

The BIGGEST gripe with Xbox One requiring an internet connection is that there is no good reason for it, and ABSOLUTELY NO BENEFIT TO CONSUMERS WHATSOEVER to requiring it.

I don't know one person who lives in a house without high speed internet. My phone sees plenty of dead zones or at least places without even 3G. You're silly.

I get NO service in the rural area where I love. Not even edge.

I may get 1.5mb/s on a good day when my sister isn't streaming incredibly low def Netflix. I tried to stream E3 coverage on my 360 and it could only buffer out about 2 seconds of video at a time. I'm going to assume that XB1 won't work for me; it's a pretty safe assumption to make at this point. Not to mention when I pack up for college again in the fall--they have ridiculous security on my campus and consoles are booted constantly.

No used games? Fine. FINE. Just DROP the necessary online connection. Microsoft is alienating countless potential buyers that either live in rural areas or in places like a college campus where they can't control Internet quality.

It is just infuriating to be disregarded in this way.

Yeah my living situation is set to change soon and whether or not I'll have an even decent internet connection is still in contention. Plus there's all the soldiers who won't be able to play and the ironic fact that Poland won't be able to play the Witcher 3 on the Xbox one.

Im not upset about the online play thing because I'm already so used to it with Xbox. I've been doing it since 2007. I also recently started doing PS Plus and I find that the amount of content you get is a much better value then Xbox Live anyways. Making that required for online play should hopefully make more dedicated servers for the games I want to play online.

College campus I've never had an issue with but I see where you're coming from with the internet, I just know that even in the really rural areas here people get bluestream (?) or something to that effect so I thought it had an equivalent everywhere. I'm glad they reversed their online decision but I have a feeling, and I could be wrong, that it will want you to connect on startup. I know they're taking off the 24hr drm and the used game restrictions but I just have a feeling they're still going to have some sort of authentication feature on startup. The military thing is huge too, I know my buddy said anytime something happened on base over in Afghanistan they shut the internet off for the day, there weren't many days they had internet running.
