A poll based on post-E3 press conference reaction, has any heads been turned, or has Sony made you even more committed now?

Posted ImagePosted Image
Here's a recap:

Xbox One: $500, confusion, ok console design, Crimson Dragon, D4, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Killer Instinct, Project Spark, DRM/24 hour check up, Kinect, used game policy,

PS4: $400, Told you what you needed to know, good looking console design, The Order: 1886, KH3, FF15, Knack, Infamous: Second Son, Killzone, Quantic Dream's PS4 working title, Indie Support, no drm, no used game policy, necessary to have PS plus account

Microsoft did try to redeem themselves, and in terms of exclusives they have done well, however Sony ended up curb stomping them.

I'm strongly against Microsoft's policies for the next Xbox, so I'm leaning towards the PS4. If the Wii U gets more games announced when the PS4 launches, then I'll consider that too.
Rise up against the fanboys and make fun of them instead of kill them.

Plus I'm fairly certain Titanfall and Dead Rising 3 are timed exclusives.
"Capcom Vancouver announced the latest game in the Dead Rising series, Dead Rising 3, during the Microsoft E3 2013 press conference but they ended the demonstration of the game by saying that it is coming this holiday “exclusively to the Xbox One”. This got people talking as to whether this was a timed exclusive due to the presence of the series on other consoles or whether the game would only be appearing on the Xbox One.

It has now been established that the game is actually being published by Microsoft, which all but confirms that the game will be exclusive to the Xbox One as they are highly unlike to sanction the appearance of the game on the PlayStation 4 or any other rival console. What do you make of this announcement and the game itself?"
Well I never was a big fan of the series. Certainly something I can live without.

MS showed off some great games for Xbox One. But that won't be enough for me to get one. The policies they currently have in place is turning me away from the Xbox One. So for me PS4. No stupid policies like Xbox One, and of course, PS+. It's better than Xbox Live in my opinion.

My favourite system of this generation is the 360, next generation though I'm fairly certain it'll be the PS4.

Most of the games looked good during the Xbox One conference... but honestly, I'd like to know that my games are going to work 10, 15, 20 years from now... and who gives a rats ass about the stupid Kinect 2.0?! I'm not willing to pay a $100 premium for something that 1) I'll never use and 2) creeps me out.

This is my exact concern, MJR.

No used games on XB1? Fine. I'll pay the $60 at launch as long as I'll be able to play it generation after next.

The XB1 would be exponentially more appealing to me if it didnt have to connect to servers once a day, seemingly placing a very short lifespan on the games that I buy.

you could always turn around it or just put it behind the tv if you are scared of it watching you don't know why people don't think about this

Now that playing field is leveled somewhat between them... I still say PS4. But I'm not thrilled with either right now, the games didn't really grab me as much as what Nintendo has.

BTW, The PS4's GPU is significantly more powerful than the One's. What does this mean besides better graphics? The Devs will probably develop games for the PS4 first, then port them to the One, so better ports. The PS4 is 33% faster hardware wise which is significant. (if you take in account the TFLOPS (a flop is a floating point operation, the more the GPU can do the faster is. a KFLOP is 1,000, a MFLOP is 1,000,000, a GFLOP is 1,000,000,000, and a TFLOP is 1,000,000,000,000 FLOPS)

If they're willing to pay more money... the PS3 was more powerful than the 360 but that ended up meaning precisely bupkiss when it came to most 3rd party support. Plus you're forgetting about CLOUD POWER ;) lol.

The thing with that is that the PS3's processing capabilites were very hard to code for, so devs obviously coded for the 360 first since it was easier. This generation, the architecture is essentially the same (x86-x64), so why not code for the more powerful system? AAA games are always trying to push graphics. Who knows, maybe they'll code for PC first then port them all to consoles, since yeah, x86-x64.

Cloud Power, you mean OnLive? Lets see how successful that is :P Oh wait, it wasn't....

Maybe we'll see them code for PC first but I doubt it, you're seriously underestimating money.

PS4 has "the cloud" also , so the cloud argument is invalid , and as onlive showed , It isn't viable and won't be by at least this generation's end.

Of course they do but as far as I know they haven't talked about processing information other than saved data unless I missed something. We aren't talking about playing games over "the cloud" we're talking about using remote computers to handle certain computations such as lighting, time changes, and matchmaking to free up resources for the games.

PLUS

You fuckers must have missed the lol and the winking face. :)

The latency is far too high to have certain calculations like lighting done on a server and displayed on a game that is otherwise rendered on the xbox. That won't work.

I thought the cloud was mostly going to be used for Sony's back catalog and for the arcade on Live, along with the save game files for both systems.

I didn't realize they were trying to use it while other processes were running on the machine at the same time. That would be a nightmare.

When they required a connection that's part of what it was supposed to be doing. Easy to calculate stuff (they built some pretty massive servers) that allowed the system to perform more instant calculations on heavier stuff.

"Speaking with Redmond Game Studios and Platforms GM Matt Booty, Ars Technica reports that cloud computing will boost performance in games designed for Microsoft's Xbox One.

While latency-sensitive actions will be handled by a user's Xbox One console, Microsoft claims its cloud architecture can pre-calculate elements like lighting and physics modeling, leading to increased in-game performance.

This additional processing is made possible by the 300,000 servers that will power Xbox Live after the Xbox One's launch, up from the 15,000 servers currently supporting the service. Booty notes that "[for] every Xbox One available in your living room we'll have three of those devices in the cloud available."

Xbox One games that support the feature will remain operational in the event of an Internet connection outage, though developers will need to address the possibility of reduced performance. "In the event of a drop out [...] the game is going to have to intelligently handle that," Booty tells Ars Technica."
