So the Steam summer sale has Hit!

For the next week we should keep track of the damage to our wallets and which games we've bought. Its only been up for an hour and I already spent money on it,

Scribblenauts Unlimited

What did you buy so far? Will you buy anything. This is the thread to do it in.

What is Steam?

Seriuosly, I have never used Steam before as I do not play PC games often. But seeing these prices and deals makes me a bit envious that I do not have a better gaming pc.

What is Steam?

Seriuosly, I have never used Steam before as I do not play PC games often. But seeing these prices and deals makes me a bit envious that I do not have a better gaming pc.
In short, Steam is a gaming platform in which to purchase and play games on your PC or Mac and also incorporated a lot of social funtions too. To compare it to something else...it's really not too far off XBL or PSN really, it's just a hell of a lot better. There are constantly cheap deals available and the library of games is phenomenal, these reasons and also it's ease of use are some of the main reasons it's so popular with PC gamers. It has it's faults too but they are minor compared to all it's benefits.

Obviously, if you buy the games through Steam then you can only play them through Steam...thats the only real catch. If that kind of DRM bothers you then i wouldn't advise using it, but theres no real reason to not have it installed if you are into PC gaming though. The only people offering a better service is GOG.com who just let you download the Install Package and do with it as you want, ideally i would want this all the time but i see why it's not implemented on Steam.

The money i have saved on games using Steam has been enormous, had i bought all these games physically on a console it would have cost me a fortune! I can't trade any of them but that doesn't bother me in the end.

My list so far:

-The Walking Dead (6€)
-Two Worlds: Epic Edition (2€)
-The Basement Collection (1€)
-Fallout New Vegas (2.5€)
-Race Driver: Grid (3.2€)
-Audiosurf (2.5€)
-Football Manager 2013 (8.7€)
-Terraria (2.5€)
-Mount & blade collection (7.5€) Played before.

So far everything except Two Worlds seems to be either awesome or very good. Seems like a really flawed game but I think it might still turn out to be well worth 2€.

I agree, however, you can also use steam as a shell. You can put any game on your PC and link it to steam. While the games themselves won't actually interact with steam, you can still have the social gaming network underlayment running in the background and people on your friends list can see what you are playing still and talk to you.

There are free games on steam as well, and games so cheap that you can buy another copy later if the DRM ever bothers you. Also with the Humble Bundles, if you pay $1 at least you can get those games linked to steam and I believe still download a copy also. I have gotten tons of games in Humble Bundles for cheap. It's worth having Steam on your PC even if you don't buy games through the client. Oh, and steam has achievements, so if you are an achievement w... If you like achievements, you can have them on steam.

I'll give a list of the stuff I got:

Just Cause 2 & DLC - £3.33
Shogun 2 FOTS & DLC - £8.45
Natural Selection 2 - £4.74
Batman Arkham City GOTY - £4.99
Prison Architect - £13.19

Other:
Bad Company 2 (for a friend) - £4.49

Not too bad all in all, it might have been much more damaging if the sales had been better. Though this time round was definately an improvement over the winter sale... eurgh.

I'm kinda bummed. I had a bunch of bills so I didn't get to buy everything I wanted so I was low on money. THEN on July 22, I got my $75 deposit back from my old apartment but the sale was already over :(

I didn't get anything, but I voted to get some of the summer cards. There were several I wanted, but none of them went cheap enough for my taste. Some of the games that went on sale I actually bought last year for cheaper. I don't think the sale prices were quite as good this year as previous years. When is the quake-con sale or do they not do that one anymore? I enjoyed that sale the most in the past few years.
