How Do You Organize Your Collection?; I've developed a system to help everyone organize and manage their video game collections.

Level 1 Posts: 42 Group: Members Member #953 Joined: Jul 7, 2009	As many of you know, I have quite a few video games in my collection and they were getting difficult to organize. I'd go out to flea markets or thrift stores and not know whether I had a manual or box for a particular game. I'd even bought a duplicate of a game I'd already owned because I had forgotten I had it. So I began listing all of my games in excel files until that became way too tedious. I decided to make my own system and soon realized I could design it for others to use as well. I've been developing a "collection manager" on my website and I would like to invite all of you to test it out. It allows you to catalogue your games by console, tallies up their approximate value, and allows you to share your collection with friends. This could streamline it and make it easier for yourself. After a solid number of collectors input huge lists of games, all you would have to do is manage and make sure repeats don't sprout up from multiple people manually inputting the same game. I really like the idea of showcasing and valuing collections like you did, but the only thing I worry is that there is never really a set price for a game. Prices fluxuate on games every week and it would be hard to keep up with that. Plus a lot of people wouldn't be able to properly gauge a price when inputting manually. Other then that, I really enjoy the layout you've started with here and I look forward to inputting mine!

That system about users updating the collection is exactly what I was planning on doing. After a person enters a game the first time, it would become part of the default list for everyone else to choose. As for the prices, as I update the price guide the users game collection will fluctuate accordingly. I'm working on a system to update prices (hopefully daily) based on the average eBay and Amazon sold items value. This should keep the prices accurate and also allow for users to track the value of their collections over time.

The only reason I ask is because I probably shouldn't add the rest of my collection now if I could potentially help increasing the database later down the line.

The only reason I ask is because I probably shouldn't add the rest of my collection now if I could potentially help increasing the database later down the line. You can add anything you'd like now. What I will be doing is going through and verifying that the games you add are accurate and I will manually add them to the system until I can automate it. I would go through all your oldest consoles first that have collections already added then do those last.

I then went back and re-checked the ones which were missing and hit the "save collection" button, but still no changes were saved afterwards. Any ideas why this happened?
