Four years ago today, I joined Pete’s Game Room Forum after seeing PeteDorr’s early shout-out video. I saw a whole other side to gaming after beginning to watch some of the retro community (Alex Demoted, PeteDorr, tvandlust, StephsTooDef) and wanted to talk about it. I was only 12 years old at the time, but I was fascinated about all of the personalities which came together in this community to talk about video games, from retro to modern. Although I actively played games as a kid, I had barely any knowledge on the subject. But over time I became more and more educated thanks to the wealth of knowledge the old members shared with me in their posts. The forums are like a whole different world now in comparison to in 2009. There were so many different members then that aren’t active here today and so many incredible members that are active today which weren’t here then, but it’s impressive that ANY still remain after so long. Some members of the community like matt456 and Porcelain Pulse aren’t active on here anymore, but I’ve seen how they’ve evolved and still regularly keep in touch with them through social networking. Many people say they “miss the old days” and in some ways I do too, but I feel our commmunity here has become a lot more connected now. Through things like Skype, Facebook, Twitter, and gaming conventions, many of us keep well in touch outside of the forums, some times even meeting in real life. It’s crazy how the community here has gone from just discussing video games, to a family of gamers... discussing video games. It was great learning more about the world of gaming and the wonderful early adopters of the forums, but the community really took a turn for me around late 2010. Podcasting was introduced to me through the All Gen Gamers and it was great following their journey on there. This eventually led me to Operation Kill Screen, Rad Rascals, and a variety of other podcasts. I was in love with the concept of listening to my favorite community members while doing daily activities wherever I go. In 2012, The Users Podcast launched. Being a huge fan of AGG, I naturally checked it out, though I had no idea who any of the hosts on it were. However, I really enjoyed learning more about the people on it and little did I know that they would be some of my closest friends in the community. I left tons of feedback on their episodes from the beginning and I was a guest on Episode 3. After being on there and seeing how much fun they were having, I was feeling a little inspired to have a podcast of my own. I had no way of really doing this though and I didn’t really know where to start. One day, I stumbled upon a thread created by AnnoyingNavi on the forums about creating a podcast with someone. I never really knew anything about him and only knew him as the “OKS fan art guy”. We jumped in a Skype call, started throwing around ideas, and the Hey, Listen! Video Game Podcast was born and released exactly one year ago. Yep, today is both my 4-year anniversary on PGRF and 1-year podcast anniversary! I’ve had a blast because through this, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Cole and The Users really well, along with over 25 awesome guests over the span of almost 40 episodes so far. Although we’re certainly no AGG, we were incredibly lucky to have some great, dedicated fans like Zaven, Pestro, relewis2011 and many others which have supported us extensively through this time. There are plenty of you on the forums I’d still love to have on the podcast to pick your brains and get to know. I love PGRF and the awesome members in the community I’ve had the pleasure of knowing over these four years. Whether you’ve taken the time to simply talk with me on the forums and discuss games, supported my YouTube channel, supported my podcast, or just contributed positively to the community in general, I thank you. I can’t thank all of my close friends here enough. I had gone through some hard times in the past and having awesome, supportive people with similar interests definitely helped me to get through them and just have fun. I hope you were able to take away something from any of my posts over these fours years and that we can continue to have some fun here. TL;DR - Today is my four year anniversary on PGRF and my one year anniversary on the Hey, Listen! Video Game Podcast. Regardless of whether you listen to my podcast or talk to me frequently, I thank you guys for your contributions to the forums and how much fun it has been. I couldn’t have asked for a greater bunch of people to chat with online. It’s been awesome! I hope you guys don’t hate me too much, regardless of anything I’ve said. ![]() P.S. That's almost a quarter of my life on PGRF! Edited by pokemonzrpg, Aug 5 2013, 12:08 AM.

Love the community as well. Although I started on Games&Me back in 2009, I have seen many people transition at the end of 2009, early 2010 when it stopped. Love talking to everyone who shared similar tastes, here in The Netherlands it is hard to meet likeminded video games fanatics, every day. |

That's what it's all about. Four years is a heck of a long time. There are definitely going to be ups and downs. If not, then what's the point? You need those valleys to make the peaks that much more enjoyable. Just keep doing your thing. Also, that 4 year thing being about a quarter of your life made me feel old and sad, but most notably old-.- |

I originally started to watch Retrocalypse's ds videos and eventually found Gamesandme the way aero did. When that started going south and found this place through Petes ds collection video. Hard to imagine it's been over four years already. |

Yeah, I been here since the day it was created, of course I had about an 18 month or so break, but you get the point. When I joined here, I was still in 8th grade not even in high school, now I'm going to college in less then a month. That's crazy to realize. |

Happy 4th anniversary. This place was such a fun time in 09 when it first started up and I met some great friends. Many of these people I may have never met had I not gone on youtube one day. Sadly some of these people are no longer active here on the forum or on youtube and I miss some of the old guys. Back in late 08 I couldn't believe that I would actually meet some of my youtube buddies in person but I actually did and I'm glad to say that I did that in my life. Some people from the old days I'm happy to say I still keep in contact with. I've never really lost interest in this forum although there had been times when I didn't have time to be as active. Take a look at my member number. I signed up right after Pete's announcement of the forum and never knew I would meet such cool people with the same interests as me. I think I'm one of the few originals still active on here but I'm proud to say so. |

While I may not have been on the forum's quite as long as you, Zach, I ca honestly say that it's been such an amazing time for me too thus far. Not only the Youtube gaming community, making videos and such, but I feel that you can really get more personal here on the forum's and get to know the 'why' of the games people play, whether they make YT videos or not. I may not post as much as some of the other members here either, but it's been great to be a bit more active these past few months than I have in years past. Always a good time to contribute to some of the more interesting and crazy topics that come up here! Anyways, enough rambling. Kudos for 4 years, and here's to at least another strong year on PGRF!Also, can't wait for that 1 year Anniversary Podcast Special! Congrats to you and Cole both!!! |
