Cocktails are good too, but they cost a lot and can really mess you up if you mix a lot of them. I'm a beer and dark rum & coke man myself these days. Nothing beats either of them in my opinion. Way to lump weed in with crack too guys haha. Y'all wanna grab a beer and smoke a joint or freebase some black tar heroin?

I'd even go as far to say that Alcohol is way more dangerous when abused.

Sounds like.your buddies poured entirely to much rum in and not enough mixer. Drinks can taste fantastic if properly made. Also until you "acquire " a taste I would stead clear of whiskey or Bourbon. That stuff is for experienced drinkers.... not a first timer.

I'd recommend starting out with drinks such as screwdriver or red bull + vodka. Also, there seems to be a misconception in this thread that drinking = partying. I usually drink when I'm playing video games with friends, if I'm at a concert or if I'm just playing video games by myself on a Friday / Saturday. Edited by pestro, Aug 10 2013, 09:03 PM.

I didn't have any weird sensations afterwards but I was able to loosen up though and feel more relaxed. I had lots of "interesting" conversations with my peers. Im anxious to try other drinks now. Jagerberry (Jagermeister and blackberry brandy) 2 ???? (Rootbeer schnapps and peppermint schnapps) 1. Jager bomb (jagermeister and redbull) schnapps is a good shot because of all the different flavors and watch out for jagermeister.

The more you drink the more you get use to it. It is really simple as that. These days a shot will make me want to throw up because of how disgusting it is. There was a time when I could down multiple shots no problem. I stick to beer now, even when everyone is taking shots. I love beer :); brewing is an art and I love trying new beers.

Drinks that don't taste like alcohol are usually the preferred beverages of newcomers, but you need to try different kinds and settle on what you like. I used to hate beer, but I've developed a fondness for it over the years. Like others have said, drinking just to please others or live up to some idea of what you should be doing is not a good reason to start. You make the decision on what is best for you, and if alcohol genuinely doesn't agree with you, don't force it. Trust me, as someone older, I see the absurdity of drinking culture. Drinking socially is fun, but it's also expensive, detrimental to your health if you overdo it and it can lead to doing stupid things. I've done my fair share, trust me.
