I've tried Windows 8 and to my surprise I actually enjoyed it. I thought it was a nice, smooth running OS. I'm going to be making a new computer soon and I was just wondering if Windows 8 Pro is worth the 130 dollar price tag when support for it ends next year. I really hope they'll extend the support time but it seems Microsoft wants a new OS every year now, which I don't agree with (I hate how a lot of Linux OS's do that but at least they're free). What do you guys think? |

I tried it out on a desktop when it came out and didn't like metro. The enhancements to the desktop was nice but the stupid charms bar.... I later got it on a tablet and hated how beta-like metro was and how meh desktop was. I returned it and got a nexus 7, much happier. |

Its a good OS, I've been using it for about a month on my new laptop, and I'd say its very usable. Its not worth the money to upgrade to 8 from 7 for sure. I'd say if your computer comes with Win8, don't worry, its still good. If you have 7, don't bother upgrading. |

At first I didn't like Windows 8, but after using it for a while I have gotten used to it. So I don't think it's that bad. |

Frankly, new OS barely do anything for me. They are just a way to get money and you are forced into it because technology adapts to it. If Windows XP still ran perfectly then I would go back to that. I would just use a graphic overhaul to make everything look fresh, but I would be able to enjoy the freedom of an old OS. |

@Richard Of course a new OS is made for profit, however when you look at the OS market today, most people don't buy an OS by itself, it comes preinstalled on the computer. Because of this, I don't think a new OS is made purely for the immediate profits from it, because when Windows 8 came out it quickly became the standard presintalled OS on new computers, but the price of these computers didn't change, at least not drastically. So I think it's more a security measure of being future proof on the OS makers part. And I think it's a misconception that new OS' forces technology to adapt to it, I think it mixture of both. When you look at Windows 8, it's not hard to see that, that OS adapted to technology, not the other way around. Windows 8 was made with a touch screen in mind and was made to make communication between different computing devices seamless. That is not something Microsoft is forcing the market into, that was already happening, Microsoft just made Windows future-proof. |

Buy Windows 8 for an upgrade, no. Not worth it. If it comes with your computer, sure. Take it. It has about a 3-5 day learning curve and it is actually a really smooth operating system. You just have to get used to your start menu being almost a different OS. I think it is more intuitive to a touchscreen but a mouse still controls it nicely. |

Windows 8 isn't all that bad. It's not perfect, and it does take some time to get used to. But overall, it works very well and I have no problems with it. |
