Yesterday I went to Gamestop with a friend just to check out games and shoot the shit with people we know there. However, when we got there we saw the Pokemon Rumble U gachapons on the counter. Now, until then I had thought that you were able to select the figures like you would skylanders. The fact that they were in blind boxes really intrigued me. Until then I had no intentions of getting the game, but I decided to buy one figure and see what I got. I said that if I got a character I liked, I'd buy the game and if not, I'd pass on it and just put the figure on my shelf with other miniatures. I got bulbasaur, and ended up buying the game along with 5 other characters. My friend cleaned out what was left in the newly opened box of figures. Personally, I pulled Celebi, Blubasaur, Piplup, Darkrai, Lucario, Lutwik, and the Gamestop purchase exclusive White Reshiram. The game itself is EXTREMELY mediocre, but upon playing it my friend and I laughed and had a great time. Your character walks around slowly, and you can assign attacks to either 1 or 2 on the wii remote (a/b on the gamepad). The cool thing is that you can use the figures to summon your characters, level them up, and save the data to the figure itself. The game only saves the progress data, points acquired, and the pokemon you've recruited - ones that you can't yet get in figures. We had a great time playing the game. In fact, I'd say we had far more fun than we deserved to have. If anyone is having their doubts about the game, I can't clear them for you. However, I can say that if you're looking for something to do with a friend, or you want to collect some nice pokemon figures (I might add the figures look nicer in person than they did in the images. They aren't a really cheapsy plastic like the images make them seem,) then give this a look.

They retail for $3.99 a pop at Gamestop. The game itself will run you $17.99 and its a digital only release. The figures are random? Its a nice nod to the TCG, but I have a feeling that people are going to buy these in masses and then go to ebay with them. Hopefully Nintendo is manufacturing lots of them so they aren't considered rare. |
