I just want to see what pgrf thought was there winner and why? I also wanted included handhelds cause I know some people loved the ds much more then they loved the consoles this gen so who won the generation for you? for me the ps3 did cause I poured alot of love into it and it also has some great games like the last of us metal gear solid 4 and infamous 2 to just name a few it also had playstation plus which I think is a big thing for the system as I get some good games that I would have never thought to buy |

I prefer the DS and the PS3, but i think MS won this generation. They essentially went from 3rd place to first, with great online, good multiplats, good controller, and a lot of new IPs. They did really well in the US and UK, and most people i know primarily use xbox. They let that get to their heads and then turned out the one... |

Xbox 360, especially from 2005-2009ish. After that it got more ad crazy on the dashboard and concentrated primarily on Gears, Halo, Forza, and Fable :/ It just seemed like during the earlier years of the 360 there were a lot of exclusive games and great third party multiplayer games to play. Really miss playing Rainbow Six Vegas especially! I also never really played games online before the 360 so it opened the door for me to get into it (: Edited by NinjaPenguin8969, Sep 8 2013, 02:37 PM.

This is a hard choice, the 360 was without a doubt the best console the first few years. But here in the last breath of the generation, the PS3 is doing fantasticly well IMO, they're still releasing new IPs for a system that is soon to be replaced. |

Playstation 3, although the Xbox 360 started off strong, the PS3 lasted for the long haul with quality titles. Overall receiving the best exclusives this generation, including: Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's Souls, Journey, Heavy Rain, 3D Dot Game Heroes, etc. Then there's games I still want to get like Sly 4, Infamous 1/2, Ni No Kuni, Dragon's Crown, Yakuza.. Also, what killed my experience with the 360 was RROD, which was far worse than what happened on PSN. |

The RROD was a huge reason I never game Microsoft a dime... I have friends that went trough 6 or 7 of them over its lifetime.... I mean that's a little ridiculous to need a new one almost every year they owned it. My fat ps3 is still going strong for 6+ years now. |

This is a hard one. I think the 360 was the dominant platform for a large part of the generation and it won the graphics battle for most multiplatform games. It also had the more refined online experience for most of the generation (and it had the better controller). I think the Playstation 3 had the more forward-thinking (and reliable!) hardware and won the battle on quality exclusive games, particularly in the latter stages of the generation. I kind of see the PS3's recent dominance in this regard a resounding, final note that the PS4 will hopefully absorb into its overall strategy. I think, however, winning the war means that you became the ubiquitous platform during your hardware lifespan, and I think the 360 can rightly make that claim, even if it sold slightly less than the Playstation 3. It seemed be the dominant online platform for some of the generation's biggest games, and it overcame its initial reliability quagmire by developing into a great streaming device and a source of innovative motion gaming (even if you didn't care about the Kinect, it did make the aging console feel pretty fresh in 2010). The PS3, for me, was the personal choice, and it may have been the winner in Europe and Japan, but I think the 360 won out, just barely, here in the U.S. Very sad that MS squandered all of that with their disastrous handling of the XBox One. |

Xbox is giving out Rainbox Six Vegas for free on the 16th-30th. Did they shut down the servers? If not, the community will be buzzing then. It will be a perfect time to revisit it! |

Ooo that's excellent news! They didn't shut down the servers but everytime I look for games it's a ghost town. Hope this revives it a bit! Definitely one of the best competitive games to come out of this generation. |

you should include all 7th gen game systems since this is a question of who won the 7th generation, I just don't think its fair to only include the consoles by the big 3 |

Xbox 360. It brought the Xbox to a new level and was much more successful than the original Xbox. Sony really started picking up towards the middle and the end, but it was a rough start. Nintendo made a deal with the casual devil. They may have reaped the benefits of insane temporary sales, but we can see that it is not helping them in the long term. People who wanted to upgrade from a Wii didn't wait until the Wii U came out. They went to the Xbox 360 and PS3 and now they are waited for the real next gen consoles. |

I actually hate the term "Won this Generation", what's there to win? Most sales? Most games? Most exclusives? Most power? Most players still playing/paying online? No console truly wins any generation. |

no I am not a troll I am just saying that if you are going to do a best of a generation you should include all systems in that generation, this is like making a best of the fourth generation, and only having the snes and genesis as choices |

hmm, overall the ps3 imo. It had a slow start but it finished strong. The 360 had plenty of games but it was rushed and the rrod was a big problem. Sales wise the wii/ds won. A better question is which console company won? nintendo, sony, or microsoft. Which imo is a tossup between nintendo and sony. |

gotta agree. Not only those you said Midi but also NIS games. Disgaea 3 and 4, Mugen Souls, Hyperdemention Neptunia, and the Atelier series are great if you are into these types of games. NIS has a place in my heart this gen for off the wall games. |

For me the 360 hit the ground running, great exclusives (or timed exclusives) over the PS3 in the first few years being the biggest part of that for me. Bioshock, Mass Effect, F.E.A.R + Expansions, Oblivion, and Halo 3. Hell, even L4D. Obviously most of these came out on PC too, but I couldn't play them at the time. And somewhere down the line M$ gradually dug it in to the ground. Now it's Forza, Fifa, Call Of Duty and (regrettably) Halo. And then there is the whole thing with how they have treated Xbox live and.... eurgh. No thanks. PS3 had a suuuuuper slow start, and the price tag was madness. And up untill MGS4 came out, none of the exclusive games interested me whatsoever. But after that it built up slowly, Siren: Blood Curse was always one I was looking forward to finally playing, along with Killzone 2, Ninja Gaiden, Wipeout, Yakuza 3, Demons Souls, Heavy Rain.... and to this day it's still releasing more, more varied and (imo) flatout better exclusives than any of the 360's. The Wii has some real fantastic gems, I have somewhere ~30-50 Wii games that are all brilliant. But the amount of shovelware that was released on that system was absured, abut the lack of a really good online gameplay structure (NOT the online channels, I still think they work really well, and wish they were implimented on the Wii U) apart from a few games like Mario Kart and SSB was the real reason it's not my favourite of the generation. And I don't even know if I prefer the DS or the PSP, so asking me to choose them in a question that includes the home consoles is... unfair So I'll pretend they are not part of the question lol. PS3, for me, "wins". Edited by OMEGAlomania, Oct 6 2013, 05:34 PM.

I would have to go with the Ps3, I have gained the most enjoyment out of it. To be honest I didn't even get one till this year, honestly most of the current gen I do have were purchased this year because I finally have my own jobs now. Well the 360 I had first, probably in 2008, in my opinion I liked live more, but that was about all, then it red ringed and I never got around to getting another one. Maybe down the line. Wii I have never owned, they are so cheap now I do plan to pick one up sometime in the near future. Also got my first psp and ds this year. Psp I love the exclusives, Ds I have honestly not even got many games or had the chance to appreciate it. Then I got my Ps3 in may for a great deal, and have been playing it like crazy and have amassed a decent collection in a short time. I would have to choose that. |
