Sony announced a bunch of stuff at their pre TGS conference which includes a new vita model and a standalone vita console. http://www.polygon.com/2013/9/9/4709936/re-designed-ps-vita-coming-to-japan-on-oct-10-in-six-colors The new vita is 15% lighter, 20% thinner, has a LCD (Anandtech said it was probably a cheap TN panel), 1gb built in memory, micro USB instead of proprietary connector, and a bunch of color options. The new vita looks great, and I'd probably pick one up if i didn't get the OG model, but the switch of screen tech disappoints. The OLED screen on the vita is the only OLED screen I like so far, as I hate them on cell phones. The OLED screen on the vita is like playing games with a portable Plasma TV, it's great. http://www.polygon.com/2013/9/9/4710078/ps-vita-tv-lets-you-play-vita-games-on-your-television-hits-japan-on The Vita TV is a standalone box that you plug into the TV, and play Vita games on the big screen. It will go for 100 box only and a 150 bundle which includes a DS3 and an 8gb memory card. It's a great idea, it's an apple TV competitor, and an OUYA killer at the same time, while widening the interest of the vita. Sony did a great job with this one

Wait so you don't need a Vita to use a Vita TV? If that is the case, then it is an absolute bargain. |

That's what it looks like to me. My gaming is all at home these days so playing handhelds on my 50" sounds perfect. |

I'm not tempted by the new model Vita really, it seems to be a straight up budget option, somewhat similar to what Ninty are doing with the 2DS (though aimed at a different market). I'm happy to still be rocking my OLED. The only problem with the VitaTV is that you can't play any game that requires touchscreen functionality. Stuff that has it as an option will still work (suck as P4G) but you won't be playing that Uncharted game on it. Other than that though it's snazzy as frick, do want. Nao please. Edit: Quote of the day: 'imagine right? It's like the OUYA yeah?...but not shit'. Hilarious. Edited by OMEGAlomania, Sep 9 2013, 04:25 PM.

Looks alright to me, especially that that price point. My only gripe is that everything i want to use it for, such as PSN games, is covered by the PS3 and so it's really of no use to me until there are some outstanding games available. In the future i can see it being a purchase for sure. |

No way it is. If anything it is more meant for here than anything. |

another problem with the vita TV will be how will you play games that involve the touch screen and touchpad? will the controller have a touchpad on the front and back or something? it doesn't look like it from the video, also games that require the camera too, doesn't look like it has one of those either. all but 1 (p4g) of my vita games involves the touchscreen or camera, so if i wanna play persona 4 on a tv I will just get it on ps2 |

You will be able to hook up the vita tv to a ps4 and use that controller if you so choose so you can play those games that have the whole touch pad thing but you can either buy just the vita tv with no controller or another way will be it will come with what looks like a white ps3 controller.

I want a Vita TV! As MrTechnoSqueek said it looks like there will be ways of playing using a Dulashock 4 controller and this should allow you to play games that use touch controls. |

A quick picture someone took comparing the LCD and the OLED: https://twitter.com/Hiro_1998/status/377687488976142336/photo/1 That... really pales in comparison. |

Reviving this topic. Vita TV is Japan and other Asian countries exclusives for right now, because of them being untapped markets for this kind of device. No localization date has been confirmed for North American/European release. However, you can import one of these and try it out. You will need to use a Japan PSN (a North American wont work). You can play most games on it but some do not work. It's a great concept and if it ever comes to NA I will buy one mainly for the capabilities of capturing game footage without purchasing an expensive "capture card mod". |
