Until this summer, I had never played a Pokemon title before, but I found Platinum at a garage sale and really enjoyed it. Naturally, I am excited about X and Y and will pick them up day one, but as is the first Pokemon release I've paid any attention to, I have an embarrassingly basic question: Is there a benefit to buying both versions? For example, can you start playing one, save your progress, and pick up where you left with the other, only to hunt different Pokemon? |

I haven't really been into Pokemon since GBA but before at least there weren't really any differences between the versions. The only real difference that I can think of is that there are a handful of pokemons that are only available in one of the versions to make players trade or something. I don't think you can transfer save files from one version to another unless it's a new feature. |

Each version will have a select few different pokemon from each other and of course the title legendary is only available in it's own game. But with X and Y there is a bit more to it. It's now been revealed that many pokemon have X and Y mega evolutions. So that's something you might want to look into to decide which version you want. Also no you can't switch saves. Hope I helped! Black and White and Black and White 2 have differences in the environments as well, with one game having a city in one place while the other game has an old forest. The last gym leader I believe is different as well. In the older games the only differences is a handful of pokemon that you can only get in one game or the other, as others have already said. |
