This week, we delve into the topic of gamer entitlement - what do you feel is your right as a gamer, the one who supports the game companies and developers by spending money on their products? It's a broad topic and we do our best to give it the time and attention it deserves. That's not to say that you'll be missing out on your weekly dose of rasciality, with humorous puns and dick jokes aplenty. Oh, and games that help to improve our abysmal typing skills. This episode has it all!

Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvhVJqxiHuY

As always, the iTunes and MP3 download links are in the video description.

Question of the Week

Do you think that gamers these days have a false sense of entitlement when it comes to what video games and the developers owe them, or are their expectations justified?

I think some gamers have a false sense of entitlement. Just as an example, there were petitions and people threatening to sue the developers of Mass Effect 3 due to the ending that was included on the game. It got so bad that they created an ending just to satisfy gamers. Granted, I do not play the Mass effect series nor do I know what the ending was about but for it to have gone that far is just silly.

I personally don't have a sense of entitlement. If they make a game that I do not like, then I don't buy it. The developer will learn that this game will not sell if majority of people do not support it and will have to make changes. I'm probably in the minority regardless but I tend to buy used games anyway so the developer gets no money from me lol

Will be listening at work today. If the talk is too clean then there will be complaints.

The ending of ME3 was pretty bad and warranted a lot of the complaints. Maybe not the whole threats and everything, but it was bad, and I don't think people's complaints about sloppy writing, nonsensical deus ex machina, and the fact that your choices really didn't matter all that much at the end were wrong. It might be entitlement to an extent; but don't the players deserve the same quality of storytelling that they had received playing the other Mass Effect games and the 98% of ME3 that was great? The changes did fix some of this stuff, but the core problem of the whole ending sequence remained, plus the damage was already done.

I think some people go too far in what they claim they deserve from gaming companies. However, good writing from a company that had a track record for good writing is something that you'd expect; not getting that would be (well, was) a huge letdown and thus people felt they deserved better. And I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

Update: Our MP3 host is down for maintenance, which means that both iTunes and the MP3 download feeds are disrupted. We expect them to be back online shortly.

It's a hard call to make and it's not just black and white across the board.

In terms of of customers being guaranteed steady releases for their new consoles, i think customers have every right to be annoyed. I'd be pissed if i had bought into the Wii U, for example, just to realise that there weren't any decent releases for another year. In terms of people being pissed off about a game ending and demanding a change, these kids need to go back and play some games from the 80's. How many times did you slave over a game on an 8-bit machine just to get a "Congratulations, please play again!" message? The outrage of ME3 was laughable and really showed the childish mentality of the online gaming community.

To point the question at myself, i can be really dickish when it comes to content and prices. I've been spoiled by PC prices and the quality of it's games, i just couldn't see myself spending £30-40+ on a Mario/Sonic game when i reckon i could find a game that would scratch the same itch and be just as competent for a fraction of the price. I shouldn't but i judge a lot of games by their asking price, a game could be great but if it's £40 and kinda similar to a lot of other things out there then i'm just going to pass on it.

That falls into my own expectations and my own sense of entitlement, It's not the best way to go about things but if someone is overcharging for a product then I'm not going to buy into it.

Question of the Week Bitches:

Of course I think that there is a false sense of entitlement when it comes to the video game industry. Just because someone does not like a certain part of a game (ME3) the developers should not have to change it, they should stand by the decisions that they make or we will see it get moar and moar worse as time goes on.. The only two things I believe that we are entitled to get is a game that is playable and a physical release if we are paying full price.
