The next expansion for World of Warcraft! What are your thoughts? Does anyone here still play World of Warcraft?
I'm super excited but that boost to level 90 thing seems a bit odd. I will say I'm pretty disappointed we didn't get some incredible looking CG trailer for this though :/

*Sigh*, okay here's my thing with WoW. (Not including the whole "lost friends to it" thing that pretty much everyone seems to have experienced).

I have never played it. I hate (to this day) that this was the next step for the franchise after W3. I am a HUGE RTS fan, and I LOVE the lore of Warcraft... so you can understand the dissapointment/anger I think. Add to that the fact that at the time it came out I was literally unable to play it, (even if I wanted to) and that killed any and all intent/interest in it for me.

Now, I recently started playing Warcraft 3 again... and at the same time remembering just how much I love the story. And.... I'm tempted to jump in to WoW when i've finished Frozen Throne. But there are problems with that.

I'm already paying sub for FFXIV, and absolutely loving the game. If I were to start WoW, I have no idea what the play time would be on each, and paying two subs doesn't sound appealing. I also have plenty of other games to be playing.

The game has been out for what, nine years now? That's a VERY well established community of players who know every in and out about the game, and trying to intergrate into that feels very daunting. I know how unwelcoming and elitest MMO communities can be, and I don't feel like fighting an uphill battle.

I have 0 idea how the story works. Can I still complete all the stuff that was in Vanilla before moving on the the expansions? Have the expansions overridden elements of the story? Are they all totally seperate from each other or do they progress in to each other?

I just.... don't know lol. This was probably very rambly, but i'm very tired xD

It's not too bad tbh, just join up with a friendly guild and you're good to go! I'm as noob-y as it comes with any MMO and I made it to lvl 90 just fine and received a lot of help from people who were happy to help. It's mostly just in random instances (or Goldshire) where people are douche dick fucks if you're new.

My buddy played a lot of Warcraft 3 and has been playing WoW off and on since 2005. He says that the expansion pack Cataclysm changed a lot of Azeroth so Vanilla's content has been changed in some places. That said though you can play Vanilla from lvl 1-60 and do all of the content before moving onto the expansions, but you just can't level past 60. The Outland content in Burning Crusade is lvl 61-70 and again you can do all of the content in the expansion except for lvl up past 70. Wrath of the Lich King is 71-80, Cataclysm is 81-85, and Pandaria is lvl 86-90. The only expansion that overwrites anything is Cataclysm and you don't have to start that until you reach lvl 80.

The expansions are for the most part their own separate storyline. Burning Crusade is about going to Outland to fight Illidan. Wrath of the Lich King is about defeating Arthas and the Scourge. Those two tie into Warcraft 3, Cataclysm is kinda it's own entity and Mists of Pandaria expands on some things in Warcraft 3.

There's a long winded response too! Hope that helps, I asked my buddy for that info since I never played Warcraft anything until last year lol. You can play free from lvl 1-20 and typically if you upgrade from there they give Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King for free. Sometimes even Cataclysm!

Wow is a pretty amazing game. Back at beta I ridiculed friends for playing it. It was 3 or 4 years later when I would expirience it for myself, yes I was that dismissive douche back in the day (still am in some ways). But Wow is pretty bloody good. It is 1000% better experienced with friends. Like any MMO or CCG this game is needs social ties to really squeeze the fun out of it. But there is so much there.

We all can recall some sort of nostalgia. For some it is the Legend of Zelda music or Metroid music. For some it may be the sfx when consuming a heal in Deamons souls or hearing the door closed in a Mega Man boss fight. I am by no means a Wow fan, or a Warcraft fan, or blizzard fan for that matter. I couldn't give two shits about a world without WoW. But I sure as shit remember the emotions evoked by Durotar like I was in a third world country where lions were stalking me. Or every time I go to Ogrimar. Hell being not a WoW-fan makes it even better, IMO.

There is no better time than the present to try someting new. WOW, to a newb, is just as good now as anything. The new expansion may be lost on the salty dogs of war that have sat through the last few expansions and done all the content and read all the quest journals. But when it is all said and done WoW to the new player and the casual is if nothing else and experience to behold. It is top quality. I only have one friend who is not an MMO guy, a married non-MMO guy, where the charm of the MMO combat system is lost on them... but he IS a nintendo platforming demigod who just never 'got' mmo combat systems.

WoW is a great game. I have memories of it more than other games I think suit me more. So it some regards it is pretty sic.

I haven't played WoW in a long time and I will continue that, but I still love watching these amazing CG trailers.

I am back into it for sure. I don't think I've ever played a more accessible MMO next to City of Heroes and Rift than what WoW is right now.

I know there is a lot of drama lama things with the old guard because of the Raid Finder but the game feels like it should now... a game. Raiding in WoW back in the day and even in Everquest 2 was for the hardcore of cores. 5 nights a week... I mean I did that in EVE but it was PVP and your stuffs was at stake... WoW is mostly boss raids for the hardest of core and yes there is a lot to do and little time but the culture was very inflexible and the loot was mandatory to gear for the next content drop.

Now I can do pretty much whatever I want and I can have fun.

I used my LVL 90 boost from my preorder to get a Ret. Paladin. Gearing up tonight in Timeless. Now I can make a Death Knight too!!! (51 was my highest toon).

Great trailer and will probably play this well into next year.

Nice dude! I re-subbed too a few weeks back and I've been enjoying my time. To get your level 90 boost did you have to fully pay upfront, or just put down $5 bucks and Blizzard sends a code? I want to get that 90 now but I want a physical copy of the game too which includes it as well. lol.

Regarding people being pissy they just need to get over it already. It amazes me how much I see people in chat shitting on Blizzard yet they've been playing this game for YEARS. Clearly it's a good product. I don't even get more than 10 hours of enjoyment with 98% of games I play so getting 225 hours and counting out of WoW so far is pretty amazing for me!

I'd play more but damn Hearthstone distracts me. I'm obsessed with beating the Naxx bosses on heroic but it's so goddamn difficult!

The only thing I'm really confused about with the trailer is why the Orcs are red. I'm not amazingly in the know with Warcraft lore but didn't they turn green and eventually red from drinking Mammoroth's blood? Since this is an alternative timeline where they don't drink it, why are they already red?

Did anyone pick up Warlords of Draenor yet? I finally started it and am loving every minute of it :D I haven't picked a free level 90 yet, any class recommendations? I've literally only played Warrior before. My friends recommend Hunter, or Rogue but I'm not too sure.

Apparently this expansion brought WoW back to over 10 million subscribers which is great to hear! Great time to hop in if you haven't already.

Here's my character lvl 90 Warrior Pandaren with the Horseman's mask :] I'm still right at the beginning which is why the portal is there.

You can get World of Warcraft and every single expansion aside Warlords of Draenor for $5 dollars until December 2nd plus a free month! Hell of a deal!

Probably put 5 hours into this and it's by far my favorite expansion! I love how it has a more narrow and cinematic focus compared to the other ones. Like in Mists of Pandaria I didn't like how it started with a big battle going on, but then you just go off and have to help farmers and kill ten gophers lol. Felt pointless.

In this one it starts with a huge battle and keeps going with that! Then when you get overwhelmed and escape you get to build your own town, recruit fighters and send them on quests, and go on quests that coincide with building up a resistance to fight back against the Iron Horde. The graphics bump is great, but I'm still getting used to some of the changes with the stats and skills. This is the first expansion where I'm actually really engaged with the storyline!

I played opening weekend. It was really nice. My guild on Shadow Moon (East/Central) had more people logged in than I realized we had humans behind those characters in the members list LOL. The game is still crazy easy without world pvp happening at the moment but everyone is trying to get leveled. The interesting thing is you can go into this game as a fresh 90 from a boosted character token and get gear. I am gear level 522 so nothing I've gotten so far is an upgrade but the story unfolding is a good enough bonus at the moment.

I haven't played this week since I am on vacation with shit internet (like even Diablo 3 plays inconsistently) but I'll be getting back on the saddle next monday. Great expansion so far!

Sega Does What Nintendon't

I played wow from vanilla all the way through Lich King before I stopped playing and moved on to other MMO's. I swore I would never go back to wow because I thought they had got away from the lore and stuff that I loved about the game.

Some of my friends started talking about trying Warlords of Draenor out because it was The Burning Crusade Outland zones before the Burning Legion destroyed them. I loved The Burning Crusade expansion and thought I would give the game a shot because you can get all the expansions for next to nothing and they gave you a character boost token as well to get started back for ordering Warlords of Draenor.

I started playing about a two months before Warlords of Draenor came out and I'm hook again. Its a great expansion so far. I leveled my Priest from 80 to 90 manually before Warlords came out and I used the token to make a new level 90 hunter and have leveled both of them to 100.

This is a great time for anyone thinking about trying the game out or wanting to return to WOW! The games back up to having over 10 million subs again since Warlords of Draenor has dropped and its been nothing but a blast.

^ Completely agree Majin. I only got into WoW when Mists of Pandaria launched so I'm still a noob compared to most players, but this expansion definitely has the lore going for it. I don't think I've read as much content or paid attention as much as I've had with this expansion. I'm completely engrossed. Still haven't picked my free 90 though! :[ I like your dwarf :]

What level is your garrison at this point?
