So currently I have the Alienware m17x r3 2011 model with the i7 intel core and the nvidia 460m. Personally I like portable gaming like this and won't get a desktop as I'm moving around a lot but in case this one decides to spit the dummy on me what would you guys recommend as a good laptop to replace with this one? I'm looking for something that's not too pricey or unreliable but definitely can do the job decently well. I'm willing to spend $2000-3000. I don't think I'll get the new alienware models as they are pretty expensive now, I haven't heard many good things about the Razer Blade and I've been told MSI is the best money can get for a reasonably good price too. Oh and the cooling/fans have gotta be good too. The ones on this one are good but a select few games really hit home on it sometimes and can cause minor issues for an hour or so. Look forward to hearing your feedback!

I would go with one made by MSI myself. They make about the best gaming laptops out there for the price. I have had a few MSI products over the years and have never had any issues with them as well. MSI GS70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=34-152-444 MSI GT Series GT70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152399 The Razer Blade looks nice as well to me but personally I would stick with MSI over Razor. Razor while making great gaming peripherals is new at making laptops and the MSI laptops have more everything for the cash. Edited by majinpowers, Nov 27 2013, 02:28 AM.

Besides my desktop I have a HP Envy 17, performance wise it's actually pretty good, the i7 and AMD GPU can play quite a bit. However, the biggest drawback is the cooling system, which absolutely sucks, as soon as just a little bit of dust gathers around the fans it gets close to max temp. I would say you should avoid HP, unless you can find at the price I paid for mine ($800, barely used), then you can live with the excessive cleaning. |

I point you to the Gigabyte P34G. Both Anandtech and Linus love it, it has a great screen and good specs, plus it's thin

I've heard good things about MSI's machines. Also you should ask people here, http://linustechtips.com/main/ Its all about computer stuff so you'd get far more opinions there. |
