I was talking with one of my friends yesterday and we both agreed that S.A.V.E edition anime boxsets kick ass for their value despite the uniform look that they all have. I thought this would be an interesting discussion since a lot of members here care about Black Label VS Green Label, regular edition VS Platinum hits, etc. Do you prefer the regular editions that have differentiating artwork on the spines/front or do not mind the look of the S.A.V.E editions?

I personally prefer the S.A.V.E editions just for the savings. I bought Mushi-Shi & Bio-Booster Armor Guyver for about $18 new each and the regular editions were between $30-35 each, so half price.

I wish the binding was a little more unique, but I don't mind because of the steals they offer on price! I got the first three seasons of Case Closed for around $20 when Case Closed sets used to cost a fortune! And I love the series, so I'm hoping my family jumps on those deals for Christmas, too! I believe they've only released the first five seasons as S.A.V.E. editions so far also, so I'm hoping they release more of them at those prices.

If you're a collector, I can completely understand the anal retentiveness of hating cheaper & ugly editions like those. But as a guy who both loves to collect and watch equally, it shouldn't even matter what they look like. As long as it has the same content and the presentation of the dvds while watching look good, that's all that should matter. Heck, I believe a quarter of my anime collection consists of S.A.V.E. editions and looking at it, it sure is nice in the sense that it takes up only a little space.

I have the same opinions as the Greatest hits, green label, the players choice, Nintendo selects and the platinum hits(except platinum hits looks cooler than the regular label :P) as i do S.A.V.E.... i really don't care. it's cheaper, and the running price for anime is quite high... so i'd like to save all the money i can. I've only recently started buying anime, as i usually just stream stuff, so I don't have any SAVE stuff yet, but i'll probably buy some of it because of the price savings. Sometimes SAVE is obnoxious, but normally it's implemented well, like the other bargain versions.

I wait for the stuff to get cheap, or just foot the price if I really want it because the S.A.V.E. binding really bugs me, more than most "Greatest Hits" or whatever labels; maybe just because it's DVDs instead of games.

I like those save cases. A lot of the time they come with reversible covers so you dont have to see the hideous green spine.

have you all been checking out the sales on rightstuf.com? there are some really great deals on SAVE and non SAVE dvds. i'm so sad that i'm broke ;-;

I have seen them online and they look horrible. I care about presentation because the simple fact is that all these things are available via online streaming services or you can torrent them. If you are going to charge for something, then at least add some value to it by making it look nice.
