I mostly play on consoles and I really can't figure out why I'd choose one of these over the PS4 or Xbox One. The Alienware one looks really cool though! I'm really clueless with this specs stuff and so many different models and prices :/ Those prices aren't really winning me over either...

I think Steam is trying to find an “in-betweener” that will appeal to both the PC and console crowd. I think the idea is fantastic in theory, however I question whether it will be able to get a foothold in either market. From my perspective, the price is going to be a biggest obstacle for most people. PC gamers are generally knowledgeable about their rigs and can build a functional one for less money, while the price is likely to be too high for your average console gamer. The cheapest model is the same price as the Xbox One. Don’t get me wrong, the technology and specs are good, and I like the idea of having a console that can play my now vast Steam library on my HD television. However, my current PC and consoles suit my gaming needs perfectly fine, so I can’t see myself jumping on the Steambox bandwagon anytime soon. |

Only one or two of those machines are actually worth their price, all of the others you can build yourself for a lot less. |

This has been my problem with Steam Machines since day one, I don't see the market they are aiming at. It's still cheaper to buy off the shelf or to get a third party to build one for you. It's still more expensive than a next gen console. None of them even have an internal optical disk drive. They are all running an OS that is barely supported, and that the majority of current Steam games will never be ported to. They won't be able to run the VAST library of games made for Windows over the many, many years without the end user dualbooting the system (and we don't even know if that's possible with SteamOS). So much confusion, so little interest. At least the Alienware one is nice looking. And i'm still kinda sorta maybe interested if the controller is nice. Edited by OMEGAlomania, Jan 14 2014, 05:15 PM.

I also like the look of that one. But if I were going to spend the money then I would rather get a PC. I guess there are people that would like to play games on their couch and this is a good alternative for that while having access to their Steam library. But for me, I would rather just get a PC for Steam and keep the consoles hooked up to the TV. |

The only real steam machines that interest me so far are the ones from Alienware, or the highly expensive ones. Most I find not interesting enough because the boxes are just to big.... I hope we will see the actual streaming boxes soon enough, thats what interests me the most. |

I think steambox is a great idea. Also I'm pretty sure that Valve won't care if these steamboxes will take off. They aren't making the hardware, other companies are. I think Valve is just trying to get Steam out there. That's the point of the Steam Machines. I think Steam Machines are less about the hardware (some of them weaker than current gen consoles), but more about Steam itself, the software and sales. I think that's a great Idea too since you don't need the most powerful machine to enjoy some Steamy hot sales on videah gaemz. |

They look cool and all but the problem remains the same. The PC gamers will still stay on the PC because you will never be able to keep up with the constant changing of specs. And the console gamers will stay on the console because it looks like these will cost a-hell of alot more than a PS4 and Xbone will cost. It would of have been a great idea if they launched like a year or two ago when the past generation was coming to an end not when they just launched new hardware. |

I bet console gamers will give the steam box a go. It looks like a console, runs like a console but has all those beautiful steam sales that everyone hears about nonstop. Pay a bit more for the console and get cheap cheap cheap games. Saves money over the long term. |

I wouldn't mind having one to double as an HTPC if the price was right. |
