How much of your free time do you use to play games?

How much of your free time do you spend playing games? Sometimes I'll watch youtube videos and I think to myself, that person must spend all of their free time playing games. That's just the impression I get, not based on how many games they own or anything like that.

So I'm wondering how much of your free time you use to play games. I'm always curious. Because someone with a full time job might have less time to play games, but use all of their free time playing them. While someone who goes to school part time might have a lot of free time, but only play games every other day or something like that. Sometimes you have to balance out multiple interests, so having a lot of free time does not necessarily translate into playing a lot of games.

For me, I definitely used to play more than I do now. I still play, mostly everyday, but I do take breaks now and then. But when I was younger and I didn't have to work, I had a lot of free time as we all did. But now that I'm an adult, I have less free time. When I was living on my own, I pretty much could play games during all of my free time if I wanted to. Now that I live with someone, I have to balance my time more.

So I generally play a couple of hours a day I would say, but not always everyday. But I'm not really looking for hours per day that you play or anything like that. I'm just looking to see how people manage to balance out all of their other interests along with playing games, or if playing games is your only hobby and you use up all of your free time doing that.

Well priority one for my free time is going to the gym. I don't go out too often(once a week probably), so the rest of my free time is split between youtube, reading, and video games. I'm going to have a lot less free time soon, since I will be working full time(joys of adulthood). I will still try to get at least 10 hours of gaming a week.

Of course I do watch the occasional show and do other things.

Just kidding, I get maybe 2-3 hours a week to devote to gaming... I do have a lot of other hobbies.

as I have a seasonal job, i get to play an average of 15 hours a week in the summer, and about 40+ hours a week in the quieter months. this season's just too hot and busy, kinda drains all my time and energy too.

I'd say I spend about an hour to an hour and a half a day playing video games on average. Some times I just play a ton of games with my friend, my brother, or even by myself, but other times i don't play any at all for a few days straight. It really depends on my mood, how much homework I have, and if I'm preoccupied with anything else. I actually currently don't work during the school year and only work during the Summer, but it's possible that will change and I will have even less time next year. I do get quite a bit of homework, so that's always a factor, though I am a terrible procrastinator. We haven't done one for a couple of weeks now, but a group of friends and I started doing some game nights fairly regularly so that gives me an excuse to play video games in a social environment. I also have another pair of friends I get together with to do stuff like watch movies, go out to eat, do stuff outside, and just this weekend we went bowling which was a blast. I also like to watch a select few TV shows and occasionally some movies in theaters with my family. Social activities like that keep my mind off of video games for a good amount so that I'm not playing them too much. I don't usually watch TV outside of with my family too much, but I do watch DVDs of anime and some shows/movies whenever I get the chance. YouTube has in many ways taken the place of me watching cable television by myself; I have a ton of YouTube channels I keep up with regularly, so that always keeps me entertained when I'm at home.

So yeah, I have a good mix of stuff I do with video games, but I try to play them regularly and I won't deny that most of the YouTube channels I watch are also revolved around video games, so that can keep my mind on video games at times. I would really like to get back into reading more often, but for some reason I can't get myself hooked in anymore.

on off days from work ill play about 5-6 hours a day depending, and on work days i rarely play if i do maybe a half hour to an hour....so with my work schedule that would be about 30 hours a week. this may be a little more than most others. but i currently have a job that allows me to work full time i just work longer hours for 4 days and then get 4 days off on an alternating schedule.

Sounds like you are a fireman.

On my days off I play games in short bursts, a chapter or level or milestone or save marker at a time or whatever the case it, and do that about 6 times or so for the day if I'm doing nothing else. On a work day, I may do that once before I go to sleep after getting home from work, maybe one more time before work and that's about it.

It varies for me. My two main priorities in life now are my job and my girlfriend, both of which take up the bulk of my waking hours. I put in about 70 hours a week in my job and I make sure that my ladyfriend is taken care of on the side, which leaves sporadic pockets of time in which I can game and pursue other interests. On average, it's about 5 hours a week, though if I'm hooked on a game, I'll try to make more time. I'm currently doing a second playthrough of Skyrim, and I've devoted about 20 hours over the past two weeks for it.

There are other times where squeezing in 1 to 3 hours a week is difficult. That's real life for you, but it doesn't mean that I'm any less passionate about gaming. I just don't have all the time to devote to it, like I used to.

Not nearly as much as I'd like. Sometimes it's because life just gets busy and sometimes it's because I have to just be in the mood to play and it seems as I get older it becomes harder to get in the mood to play something. Right now I'm doing good to average maybe 30 mins to 1 hour a day but if a game just strikes me at the right time and I really get into it I can play 6-8 hrs a day until I beat it. Just really varies. I never had this problem until about 6-7 years ago. Until my late 20's I played the hell out of games everyday. Motivation, ADD, and an intimidating backlog are all my main problems right now.

It really just depends on the week. I work full time, occasionally need to travel a weekend here or there for work, and am finishing up college. I also fly out to Seattle, or Los Angeles every few weeks to see family so some weeks I don't play anything, but other times I'm able to get a good 10-15 hours in a week. Usually happens on Sunday since that's my relax day :) Most days of the week I either don't play, or just play a half hour or so of Madden or some quick shooter game before I go to bed.

The past month I've been crazy addicted to AssCreed BlackFlag putting 50 hours into it! So if the game turns out to be exceptional like that or Tomb Raider then I usually will make more time for gaming :) Also helped I had no classes the past month lol.

I'm an indie game maker. All my free time is spend making games rather than playing them. However, I do find sometime in the weekend to play something and sometimes I take a short break on the weekdays to play a game. I really want to get back to my FF Tactics game I bought long ago but I just haven't had the time to do so because I've been really busy. Currently playing two games: FF Tactics (I'll try to get back to playing it this weekend) and Papers, Please (indie game).

There is one time I do play alot and that is when I go on the bus. That is the only true time I have to play games, yet this is more to pass the time as I have been reading books at the moment. I'll be back to playing games after I've read my literature.

So at the moment, I have like 1 hour a week to play games.

My free time basically consists of the time from after supper until the time I go to bed. It really depends how what I feel like doing that night, most days i'll play an couple of hours of games then read of watch netflix or something.

I work in Finance in London so that takes up most of my time tbh. I leave my flat before 7 every morning and probably get back about 8ish. Of that time about an hour of it is on the train, in theory I could spend this time handheld gaming but I tend to use this time to read. I'm currently working my way though Game of Thrones and I love it!

After that as everyone who lives on their own knows time can be stretched, I have to cook, clean, iron, all that jazz. I'll probably play maybe half an hour on average of a game each night. If I'm really into it this could stretch to 3 hours easily and I'll just sacrifice sleep lol. I don't play much on the weekends because of my other hobbies, I play golf all the time and I fish as well. Aside from that I see my friends a lot and we go out fairly regularly.

So this post was just a really long winded way of saying about 5 hours a week!

You mention a backlog and I've kind of started to notice that that is an issue for me as well. My stack of games is starting to grow lately and it makes me want to rush through a game so I can move on to the next one. But at the same time it seems like I'll never finish them all. There just aren't enough hours in the day. I guess I should just have fun with the game I'm playing and not worry about the backlog. I think part of the problem is I've been playing a lot of longer games lately which has slowed my progress a lot.
