Hey everyone. So I recently picked up a c64 with a 1541 floppy drive. I was excited to get started but realized I was missing the serial cable that connects the c64 to the 1541. Ive found it on ebay listed specifically as the c64/1541 floppy cable but it's like $20. I'm just wondering if this cable is generic and can be found under some random name or is it a proprietary cable made specifically for the c64. I hope this makes sense. Thanks. |

Din Connectors Wikipedia <=link I'm pretty sure that DIN connectors were used on the 1541 for serial communication,You should definitely be able to pick up a cable for less than $20, or if you know how to solder make your own. You'll just have to look at the serial port on the c64 to figure out which model of din connector you need. Hope I helped. Edited by Justin.A, Jan 24 2014, 02:08 AM.

Do you have a RE-PC store or a place locally that sells old PC / laptop parts? Often these places have old cables like that stacked in bins for decades for cheap. http://www.repc.com Edited by MetalJesus, Jan 24 2014, 12:21 PM.

I've had a look around at a few places but no luck. Here is a link to one for sale on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Commodore-disk-drive-and-printer-serial-cable-3-ft-Used-/290857056910?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43b86e7a8e The shipping is another $10 to canada. I'm tempted to just pick it up and be done with it, but the cheapskate in me knows that cable is sitting on a self in some second hand place for 50 cents. I've searched 6 pin cable, serial floppy... But no luck. As for making one, I'm pretty crafty but never made a cable wouldn't really know where to start. Thanks though. |

So yeah just looking at that ebay ad they tell you what cable it is. "6 pin DIN male to 6 pin DIN male." So you could run into some computer repair shops and see if they have that kind of cable on a rack somewhere. |

I'm not sure how I missed that lol. I think I was so used to see adds with little or no description I just didn't pay attention. Thanks though I'll be hunting around this weekend. |
